it took me 400 times to finally beat the truck mission. hardest part I thought back in 1995 until I saw the ending. definitely would've needed player 2. you have no idea how much satisfaction seeing the ending of this was for me. would definitely play this nowadays just to give it a try because it was the hardest game I've ever played

Not a bad playthru, but I have to say it really is amazing how little most people know of the physics in the game. Which is what gets most of them killed. Even after all these years even online I don't find much info on them.
Case in point: for enemies firing machine guns, if they aren't on your side, the attack does no damage. But most people don't know that so when they see enemies pop up on the right, they focus on them and then get blasted when things pop up on the left where their gun is (assuming you are using P1 of course; for P2 it's the right side they have to worry about).

If you set the dipswitch to just 1 Player, the game will be hard and the enemies from the other side will still take damage.

I remember playing this in the arcade and thinking it had the BEST graphics. This and NARC had the "photo-realistic" (rotoscoping, I think) animation which my young mind found so cool. I never had enough time or quarters to finish it, though. I would catch glimpses of other people playing levels (including the ending) that I never could reach on my own. Thanks for posting!

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  8 months ago +1

@montecristo1845 Rotoscoping is very time consuming and requires a lot of effort to do.
The earliest example of this being used was in Karateka (1984) where rotoscoping was used to trace karate moves. It was used in Prince of Persia (1989). Rotoscoping was used a lot in Mortal Kombat (1992).
Dragon's Lair (1983) had to be the most difficult game ever. It was one of the first arcade games to use a laser disc. Another laser disc game was Cobra Command (1984). Interactive optical disc games were popular in the early 1990s with the advent of CD-ROM technology.

@Ace1000ks1975 (slaps palm to forehead) Lethal Enforcers!!! Duh! That’s what it was called! Where in the world did I get “Narc” from? The older kids at 7-Eleven were always playing it round the clock. I didn’t learn about rotoscoping until I took an intro to computer animation class at Modesto Junior College, back in 1994. Then I felt foolish for praising the game designers for their unbelievably realistic animation. Especially the “killer clown” on level 3. Besides Terminator 2, the other one I’ve looked up online (because it was impossible for me to beat) was Dragon’s Lair. My reaction at the end of the video was: oh, so THAT’S how it ends…

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  8 months ago +2

When this game was released, the graphics for this game was top notch. Back in 1991, and 1992, I would go to the arcades on the weekend to play this game, and lethal enforcers.
This game was released for video game consoles; however, the arcade version was still the best.

Arcades started to die out starting from the late 1990s, because the quality of video game consoles was approaching arcade quality. In addition, we started to have affordable broadband internet around 1999. By 2003, most arcades went out of business.

    • Pearl Jammer
      Pearl Jammer 6 years ago

Some missions in this game like the Protect John Connor's Truck and the SWAT Van, forces the game to try again and you lose plenty of health after if you fail that mission.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  6 years ago

@Cabaletta24 Back in $5.00 was a lot of money, my allowance was like $25/week, a gallon of gasoline was like $1.12, the only things that were overpriced in the 1980s and early 1990s were computers, and video games. The average Nintendo game in the 1980s was like $50! In today's equivalent it is like $191 for a Nintendo game in inflation adjusted prices!

  • Josh Jensen
    Josh Jensen 4 years ago

One of the great games of my childhood. The authenticity and attention to detail is fantastic. IMO, not as difficult as a lot of people say; then again it's far less taxing to play when you're not having to dump bags of quarters into it. Level 3 isn't that bad as long as you just focus on blowing up the HK's. Keeping the helicopter away from the van is harder, and I find the best way to get through (if playing alone) is just to have both players activated so you can have crosshairs ready behind and above at all times. The hardest part for me is actually pushing the T-1000 pushed to the edge of the platform, picking up the grenade launcher, and trying to blast him off all while keeping him from leaving that spot. :O

A lot of kids used to go to the arcades in the 1980s and early 1990s. On Saturdays, we used to watch cartoon shows, and go to the arcades. If it wasn't that, we would invite each other over to play video games.

    • Josh Jensen

    • D Turner Gaming
D Turner Gaming 5 years ago

I agree with that because when I played the arcade version, I definetly spent quite a few quarters to play but once it was out on console it was so much easier to play for sure.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  5 years ago +1

This game was difficult, and all arcade games were made to be very difficult. This way, the machines could generate as much revenue as possible. The console versions were easier than the arcade versions in most cases.

  • freakyfornash
    freakyfornash 2 years ago

Great game this sure was, despite it's higher than necessary difficulty. T.B.H., that usually wasn't too much of a problem, save for both the infamous truck part, along with having to stop the helicopter from hitting the truck at the beginning of the final stage. That of which was by far the toughest part of the game, and was almost impossible to do without a second player, or using two guns at the very least.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  2 years ago +1

@freakyfornash in some of the vehicle levels, you need two players or you have to be really good.

    • freakyfornash
      freakyfornash 2 years ago

@Ace1000ks1975 And that's what made them so painfully difficult too. The hardest part was when you had to stop the T-1000 from crashing the van after the Cyberdyne stage, which you almost need two players for as well.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  2 years ago +1

@freakyfornash The vehicle levels are difficult, because if you screw up you have to start all over from the beginning. As for most parts of this game, you can die and start at the same place where you died.
As for older games, if you die you have to start all over from the beginning of the level, and this was frustrating.

    • freakyfornash
      freakyfornash 2 years ago

@Ace1000ks1975 That game was even all the more difficult (and confusing), considering you had to take certain routes in order to advance, which not many knew exactly how to do. That while having only a one shot deal when it came to finding things (them being the captured band members) which you needed in order to truly finish the game as well.

Salvation was definitely the better game with a lot more to it (along with higher quality gameplay overall), and easily the best Terminator game, followed by a virtual tie between this, and the first Terminator for the SEGA CD I.M.O. That of which was pretty much the ONLY good thing to come out of that otherwise lame movie for that matter too! (L.O.L.!) Bummer that amazing game never got a much needed console port, but maybe something like an Arcade 1up cabinet with it could perhaps happen one day though?

@ActiveAero By the late 1990s, 3d accelerators, and broadband internet(DSL and Cable modem) were becoming more mainstream. As a result, gamers could play anyone around the globe, and they weren't limited to playing with people just at the arcades.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  6 years ago

@ActiveAero The reason for that was due to the fact that the Dreamcast had a dedicated 3d accelerator, while the Sony PS1 did not.

    • ActiveAero
      ActiveAero 6 years ago

@Ace1000ks1975 Arcade games were still more powerful even during the PS1 era. Sega Model 2 games were notably better and Model 3 were on another planet. The first system that truly came close to matching or surpassing higher end arcade systems was the Dreamcast as by that point arcade system development had all but died.

@Steven Morris Back in the 1980s to the early 1990s, the arcade versions were always better than the console or computer versions. All of that changed in the mid 1990s with the release of the Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn, and Pentium class CPUs.

So a few tips because I see people bringing up difficulty issues and yeah this game is hard.
    1. The truck stage. Completely ignore the endoskeletons, your shots damage the truck. Concentrate solely on the HKs.
    2. Shooting endoskeletons in the face has a small chance to drop a CPU which can heal you. Computer monitors in the Cyberdyne stage can also drop these.
    3. Only shots on your half of the screen will damage you.
    4. Knocking down the T-1000 will cause him take a lot more temperature loss when he gets hit with liquid nitrogen.
    5. When you start knocking the T-1000 back towards the molten steel, you need to get the grenade launcher to push him in.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  3 months ago

      Jamie Rose
      1. In that case during the Liquid Nitrogen truck part, the shells keeps raining down on the screen to help you beat him.
2.Collecting Shotgun Shells will give you more gunpower.
      3. For Cyberdyne, you just need to waste lot of money to give you 25 more shells to destroy every equipment on Cyberdyne in order to get the good ending.
      4. When T-1000 is onto your face, shoot each side of the face to split his face in half and he will go back to killing John Connor so that you can push him out of the molten metal.

@Hamilton 76 most arcade games in the 1980s and 1990s were hard, but Midway USA made it so you couldn't pass the level if you screwed up a little. Most arcade games just required you to shell out a lot of quarters to win the game, but this game did it with a twist. LOL

It sucks that this game didn't make it on to Midway Arcade Treasures 2 or any other installments in that compilation series.
Oh yeah & it DOES help to destroy desks, lamps & file cabinets at Cyberdyne which makes it easier for a perfect remainder of 0 which leads to the good ending.
Just try to destroy the required amount of tech for the good ending.
I play both the Super Nintendo & Sega Genesis versions of this game, but I imagine that this version is harder.
I bet there's no code to skip to the next level in the Arcade version.

yeah i beat the console version, the one day i went to the arcade and saw a couple play it, this was a nickel arcade... and fortune have it, i had 5 bucks.
Right after they beat this level, i was patiently waiting to jump in after one left.
My grandpa demanded I play primal rage with him, and I did out of regret, and when I lost, the couple had long left and i just stared at the screen as any 8 year old would who feels life can't get any worst...
Then I grew up and paid tax's and really knew what pain was.

  • Mike C
    Mike C 7 years ago

The key to the steel mill/T1000 scene is to just keep hitting the truck and not the T1000 because going after him and knocking him down doesnt help you at all. His temperature rises and it takes you longer to freeze him. As long as the liquid nitrogen is going on him thats all that matters

Also when u ran out of Shotgun shells, the shells will fall down from the top of the screen to provide you enough shell to keep freezing the T-1000, while you're collecting the shells, the gunpower from the rifle increases to full power.

      Brandon Reina 7 years ago

@Ace1000ks1975 After Midway's demise, Warner Bros. Entertainment acquired their assets and properties (including Mortal Kombat) in 2010. The Galaga franchise soon went to Namco Bandai and is shown playable on Nintendo Wii (as a virtual console game) while NBA Jam went to Electronic Arts.

    • Ace1000ks1975
      Ace1000ks1975  7 years ago

@Brandon Reina The reason for the corporate logos being different now is, because Midway went bankrupt in 2009. Midway was one of the first gaming companies that sold arcade machines in the late 1980s through the 2000s. Midway and many arcade companies ran into a lot of financial difficulties in the late 1990s through the early 2000s. Console systems and computer graphics got so good in the late 1990s which made arcades obsolete. In addition to that, we had broadband internet being widely available in the early 2000s.
Midway made a lot of hit games, like Galaga series, Smash TV, Spy Hunter, Rampage, Joust, Mortal Combat series, etc. They ported their games to console systems as well. They were a very successful software company from the late 1980s to the late 1990s. Before the Playstation, 32 bit microprocessors, and 3d accelerators became mainstream, the arcade platforms were always superior to the console and computer versions. A lot of times, people went to arcades to play against other people, but when cable modem services and DSL modems became readily available that spelled the death of arcades. : )

The SWAT Van on the Cyberdyne level is lot worse than John Connor's Truck because there's two parts on it, one was to shoot a helicopter with a rifle that goes in a diagonal direction and the other one you have to spam the Shotgun button while shooting the truck with your rifle to prevent the SWAT Van from being rammed over by T-1000's truck. If you don't have enough Shotgun shells from the Cyberdyne Stage, the level will be much harder.

2-Players are essentialy mandatory for this mission because one player will aim on the left while two player will aim on the right. Just ignore the Endoskeleton firing at you in the ground. These guys are meant to distract you while shooting HKs.

+Greg Leuszler thanx that got me past it. now I'm stuck at the other stupid truck stage lol. where the truck explodes on touch by the helicopter. its hard playing this on my phone.

+KangRell The key to beating the first truck stage is to ignore the Endoskeletons and focus on COMPLETELY destroying the aerial HK's (that is, shooting them until they literally blow up). If you shoot an aerial HK so that it only catches fire (and slowly descends to the ground), it will continue to fire at the truck.
The Endoskeletons do not harm the truck; their only purpose is to chip away at your life bar. Shooting the Endoskeletons carries the risk of shooting the truck, which can also be destroyed by an errant shot from you.

@Nicksolo85 You have to honestly say that the Genesis, Super Nintendo, and other versions of this game was crappy compared to the arcade version.

That mouse cursor was there due to the recording software I used. I resolved the problem now. I just record in 3d hardware mode.

+Ace1000ks1975 Well that Arcade Game came out in 2010. Since the health bar was rigged that if you survive for too long without taking damage, the enemies will give you enough damage to kill you to continue the game to eat your money. Plus, this game is 8 Levels long with long ass targets to shoot. I saw someone played this game around RU-clip and they spent like $20 to beat this painful game. This game was made by George Petro who became part of Play Mechanix, that explains why this game is a lot harder than any lightgun shooters on the market.
