To reach beyond your limits by training your mind | Marisa Peer | TEDxKCS

  • Published on Jan 22, 2015
  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. You can train your mind to do what you want it to. Collaboration with your mind is crucial, the pictures you make in your head and the words that you say to yourself influence how you feel. So tell yourself better things, stretch your mind - make the unfamiliar, familiar.
Marisa Peer is a world renowned speaker, therapist, and best-selling author with nearly three decades of experience. Named named Best British Therapist by Men's Health magazine and featured in Tatler's Guide to Britain's 250 Best Doctors, she uses her experiences treating patients including rock stars, CEOs, Olympic athletes, and Oscar winning actors to inform her life-changing speeches and lectures. She has been voted best speaker at numerous conferences including The Yes Group London and the Women in Business Superconference.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

    1. You mind do exactly and specifically to what you want it to do.
    2. hardwired to chase pleasure and avoiding pain
    3. the pictures in your head and the word you say
    4. what is familiar and what is unfamiliar you have to know

get away from the bad words, toxic and negativity.

Four things about the mind: Tell your mind exactly what you want. 2. Link pleasure with painful tasks. 3. Change the pictures and words 4. Turn the familiar unfamiliar.

I watched Tony Robbins in the show with Doctor Oz advising that "faking" does not work. Faking that your happy eventhough you're not will not work because you know deep inside that you're not happy. But, hearing it with Marissa Peers and Bruce Lipton saying that "faking" works I guess i have to follow the advice from the latter.

    1. Your mind does what it thinks are in your best interested. if you are not getting what you want then you are not collaborating with your mind properly.
    2. Your mind is hard wired to move towards pleasure and avoid pain.
    3. All your feelings are down to two things 1. the pictures you make in your head and 2. the words you say to yourself.
    4. Your mind loves the familiar. If you want to succeed you have to make what is familiar unfamiliar and vice versa.

Your subconscious always knows the truth. If you lie to yourself, e.g. "I like this", it just doesn't work. What you invite your mind to do must be endorsed at the deepest levels. This is a transformation, not a skill

This is rubbish-y. We do not necessarily have the conscious control over our minds that is alleged here. Toxic exposures, man-made electromagnetic fields, gut pathology and dysbiosis, parasites, fake food, lack of sunlight, circadian disruption, sleep disorders, pervasive stress from technological complexity and social isolation and alienation and noise... these modern plagues cause enormous mental dysfunction that cannot be trained away.

While these things can work to a certain extent (which are called neurohacks, by the way), they can only get you so far without using other important factors that the latest behavioral science research reveals. But we'll forgive her, this was posted in 2015 😉
