Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order by Ray Dalio

  • I believe the world is changing in big ways that haven’t happened before in our lifetimes but have many times in history, so I knew I needed to study past changes to understand what is happening now and help me to anticipate what is likely to happen.
I shared what I learned in my book, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order, and my hope is that this animation gives people an easy way to understand the key ideas from the book in a simple and entertaining way. In the first 18 minutes, you’ll get the gist of what drives the “Big Cycle” of rise and decline of nations through time and where we now are in that cycle. If you give me 20 minutes more to watch the whole thing, and I will show you how the big cycle worked across the last 500 years of history-and what the current world leading power, the United States, needs to do to remain strong.
I hope you find it valuable and look forward to hearing your thoughts.
You can buy the book on Amazon ( www.amazon.com/Changing-World... ) or in bookstores nationwide.
    Key Sections:
1:33 - How I Learned to Anticipate the Future by Studying the Past
    8:00 - Changing Orders
    11:38 - The Big Cycle
    18:26 - 500 Years of Big Cycles
    18:45 - The Rise
    26:16 - The Top
    32:01 - The Decline
    39:39 - The Future

We read news in the media that doom and gloom is coming and we just accept it, doom and gloom doesn’t always have to be coming, I’ve read numerous success stories of people that are pulling off tremendous gains of up to $250K within weeks in this crazy market and I just want to learn how to achieve such figures.

Right, I've been in constant touch with a fiinancial-analyst since covid . You know these days it's really easy to buy into trending stock`s, but the task is determining when to buy or sell . My advisor decides entry and exit commands on my portfolio, I've accrued over $550k from an initially stagnant reserve of $150K.

I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for. My portfolio has lost almost $18,500 this month alone, my earnings are tanking, and I can't see how my retirement will go smoothly when I can't even increase my stagnating reserve. I wonder whether those who lived through the 2008 crash had it easier.

Sure, a lot of folks downplay the role of portfolio-coaches until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember a couple of summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat. Hence I researched for license professionals and came across someone of due diligence, helped a lot notwithstanding inflation to grow my reserve

If you liked this video, I highly recommend checking out Grand Theft World. They are a group of human historical encyclopedias (forensic historians) that delve deep into the generalities proposed in this video. For example, how governments have actually been the ones who intentionally fomented internal discord in their own countries as an excuse to grow state power in an attempt to prolong their self-imposed declines due to financial irresponsibility. Also, they very clearly document all of their sources for you to verify on your own. What's more incredible is they teach how the same groups of elites have been on both sides of every conflict, and the notion of "sovereign nation-states" is really a bunch of Kabuki theater to hide the consolidation of power that's actually taking place.

There was a time when we " made it here", we had jobs for everyone and the products were of high quality, then the 1% wanted everything. Now Inflation drives prices up and if Inflation is high and jobs disappear by the millions we are in a recession and maybe headed for a Depression…So be careful with your money. It may take decades to get back on pay again. Luck to all.. I've seen folks make over $400k profit in a crashing market and pull it off much easily in a bull market Unequivocally the crash/recession is getting somebody somewhere rich...

I used to be poor, and now I am pretty successful. Not rich or anything, but making like 200K. I can’t tell you how many people I see these days, that simply don’t want to work hard and don’t take pride in their jobs. They wanna be paid a lot of money yet don’t want to produce or do anything of value at work. Then they wonder why inflation spikes? Endless money printing, and higher wages for less production all leads to inflation. Complacency is the enemy of America

    • Charles G
      Charles G 2 months ago +1

We don’t have inflation because “the 1% wanted everything”. We have inflation because of government spending, due to lazy people who want to get free handouts rather than working!

Yes, this is a great video and it teaches us quite a bit, thanks Ray! Now that you made it easy for us to understand, why are we continuing to act like this isn't happening to the US? Why are we fighting internally, why are our elected leaders spending more and our citizens are working less. You can lead a horse to water but he will only drink when he gets thirsty enough. And by then its usually to late. Sorry everyone to be negative, but that's sequel to this video. unless...Ray for President!!

So true Ray, it all comes down to knowing that for every purchase you make, you can't buy something else. Varied sources of income is wise and especially living within your means. Think about taxes and how you get your income. I made $260K combined net last year. I own a 24 y/o vehicle because that's all I need and I like it well enough and I can do anything I want to. I can pay my bills with no stress, but I don't live like I have that. I have no complaints but ideas to help multiply sources of income will be nice.

Luckily I paid attention to this video a little, to avoid buying the book. ? But where did you study the history man-of-God? ? Have you heard of the Spanish Empire? ? Do you know the dimensions of the Spanish Empire? Are you talking about the first international trade company that was from the Netherlands? Did you know that Spain discovers America in 1492 and since then the Crown begins to authorize companies in America and Asia? ? Have you heard of the Real de a Ocho? I think it was the official world currency and accepted in the United States until 1850. ? Did you know that in order to trade with China, the British were forced to exchange their Guineas for Royals of eight Spaniards until almost the twentieth century? Talk about the Dutch Empire and systematically ignore the Spanish Empire, the first nation to establish Global Trade in the World. China- Philippines- America- Spain- Europe, I find it not only pathetic but it gives a certain grime. I suppose you will have many ancestors and roots of the Netherlands; because otherwise, it is not acceptable. Greetings.

Very insightful video. Thanks for putting it here for us. It's interesting to note Dutch rose to power with the "Dutch East INDIA Co." British rose to power with "British East INDIA Co." What does this indicate? Why INDIA? What's the role of INDIA? The graphs shown in the video has no data about India's wealth before 500 years. Even internet does not have enough information about India in ancient period obviously because the west will not accept INIDA's golden period and they gruesome crime on India and it's people. India was 'looted' by several barbaric invaders from many countries including Dutch, Portugal, Turkey, Britain etc. These empires including Dutch and British empire stood on the lives(grave) and wealth of millions of Indians. India was a Golden land before these invaders invaded. That is the reason why people from all directions of the world were in search of the golden bird India (as is called). India shared more than 25% of the entire world's GDP. We Indians were civilized and educated since way back when your ancestors were in search of food at around 3000 BC. India was also a knowledge hub. Nalanda university library containing lakhs of books written by our rishis (scientists) was burnt by a jealous Islamic invader called Bakhtiyar Khilji. The library took 3 months to burn completely. You will be shocked to know the reason so I would request you to research about it.

@Hello Vicki It's true that my immigrant great grandfather, his children, and my Dad had to work very hard for very little money, in order to survive, which then provided cheap goods to be traded internationally. But, for myself and my brothers and sisters, we don't want to work as much, and for as little money. Without cheap labor, like they have in China, but enough money in financial institutions to spend, due to borrowing from China, the US workforce can't produce much, but we continue to consume other countries' goods beyond our needs. The upshot it, I think I'll have to read his book to find out his answer to all this, because most Americans are already used to a soft life and I doubt that will change, no matter what the government does, so the downward trend will probably continue.

      Dan Brown 2 months ago

Oversimplified in some areas for me.
      1. Populism is not extremism, it is advocation for the welfare of the people over the elite.
      2. China's rise is entirely manufactured by globalist financiers and elite, not least that they were left exempt from the deindustrialisation program of the UN under Agenda 21 and carbon taxes and other expensive green diktats the West was put under. This enables the global elite who funded the think tanks that came up with this policy to invest and move industry to China to take advantage of the uneven economic playing field they had created and make hundreds of billions. This is what created China's economic boom and led to them building thousands of new dirty coal plants that have made them a greater polluter of Co2 than the whole of Europe and US combined. And this was said to done to save the planet from global warming by reducing Co1 emissions!
      3. Saying the left is about redistributing wealth and the right about maintaining the wealth gap sounds like something a socialist would try to indoctrinate kids with. The Democrats in congress are richer than their Republican counterparts and when was wealth ever redistributed under a socialist or Communist government except in reverse from the proletariat to the party?
Taxes can be a form of wealth redistribution but it depends very much what the government spends the money on.
      4. Most corporations today are left leaning from big tech and big pharma to corporate media as are the wealthiest people in the world such as Bezos, Gates et al.

Excellent and so very clear. Thanks, Ray, for providing this animated summary. Hope many influencers and conscientious people in the US (also allied and rival nations) will seek together to find the solutions(s) to heading off the self-inflicted pain in the otherwise unavoidable decline of our country, economy and social order (and theirs, too). Wanting to move forward in an optimistic, not helpless way - how do you suggest we gather together, transcending these seemingly self-destructive, polarizing domestic forces? (Forces currently not listening to nor understanding each other, nor having compassion for each other- how can we pause all the noise and harmful actions?) Will look forward to hearing your suggestions for healing the current disruption. Perhaps you address this in your book? Meanwhile, (for those of us who suffer from short attention span, but are motivated, don't want to marinate in hopelessness, and instead want asap to do/be something intelligent, can you please present yet another summary animation presenting possible solutions for healing and moving forward with positive affect? Please share your vision or a roadmap for potentially healthy solutions. Is climate change enough of a challenge to unite people?

We are already in the big crash, Inflation is a catastrophe. This CPI report is a colossal failure. To bring the housing market to a halt, the FED will have to pull all the stops. The unfortunate issue is that other markets are being decimated. If you want to stay green, you have to rely on a lot of diversification. Currently up 14% and being careful. Still a better deal than leaving it in a savings or checking account yielding 0-1 percent interest.

@Principles by Ray Dalio Your analysis assumes US will preserve the current order alone. The current order will be preserved by countries that formed it.
We have seen US, UK, France and Germany warships in South China sea and US and allies uniting to sanction Russia. We have also seen metal alliance, semiconductor alliance, we have also seen QUAD and post trading with autocracies is coming.
If any country will want to change the current order, they wont just be required to unseat the United States, but all Western democracies. Sure, US will decline, but if we combine our strength will allies, China cannot change the order.
I find this to be an important aspect of the current world order but unfortunately, it's missing in your analysis. Please say something about the aspect of allies in changing world orders.

Thank you very much Ray Dalio. Fully appreciated as I always like to study the historic effects on our lives today. Sounds like you want to invest in China over the US. Yet perhaps China has a bubble economy thinking especially on some of the symptoms you mention before a downward fall such as a. overspending internally / generally believing in the good times / lifestyle in excess, b. on military and c. their housing market seems rocky currently so to me.... After watching your super lesson: Two significant questions remain to me. 1. Can an empire not rise again? Say instead of a downward arch it can be say a horizontal s-curve? 2. Can a government not regulate as you simplify it technical disaster just printing/creating more physical money which will lead to the devaluation of the currency yet what if a government/ruler is wise enough to know not to do so and implement other measures to stop the down ward arch from happening. You may use the term prolonging but to me do go into another cycle of times of prosperity. Also time of austerity can cleanse an unnaturally supported market. Despite times of austerity do create disturbance both on internal and external factors. Yet they can also filter out some rather unhealthy market forces/mechanisms that have been in place (such as an overspending/over-lending /over-belief in prosperity). I am curiously so awaiting your answer. Thank you in advance. Most cordially, Marie Dahl Kell

This video is incredible. I am an adult approaching 40 and I feel like I never ever learned or understood these principles and I am college educated 🤦🏻‍♀️. I’ve learned more in 30 minutes from this video about economics than I ever learned in school. It’s eye opening. And this may also be what’s wrong with our society at this moment, we have no idea what’s actually going on and how we are a part of what’s driving our economy.

No, the USA is most certainly in decline. The rise of conspiracy theories and Trumpism point to that very decline.
We are wasting time dealing with this nonsense when very real, big $ issues are just on the horizon.
You are missing the big picture in a big way.

@Craig Offenhauser dude.. don't act like you went to a college and took courses on how to understand the macroeconomic fractional reserve system. You didn't. Neither did I. I'm college educated and majored in civil engineering. Took multiple courses in multivariable statistics and engineering mechanics. I didnt have the slightest clue how money worked or how macroeconomics worked. It was my job to gain that knowledge. you wont learn this stuff in college even if you studied basic Keynesian economics. You will be taught what is convenient and what is state funded. You will be taught not to question why the boom-bust cycle occurs or how it occurs. But only what it is and how to deal with it.

Remember, one can give you some facts in order to distort others, or to push a narrative. I agreed with most of the historical data he's presented, but he has knowingly or unknowingly OMITTED a crucial point about the ongoing downfall of the USA: Globalist-induced economic, academic, social, and political entropy in order to weaken this country and to commence a New World Order, which differs from the NWO he's mentioned in your video. He has knowingly or unknowingly confused people with his definition of NWO vs. that which globalists are trying to create, i.e., ONE-WORLD GOVERNMENT.
Let me explain only two of these intentional inductions due to time and space constraints. The reader should be able to deduce the rest: Intentionally induced economic and academic deterioration. Observe how all administrations from hill-bill clinton to the current one, have left the southern border wide open to millions and millions of illegals pouring freely into the country. 1) What long-term negative economic impact will this cause? In the current dismal national economy, where will these millions of illegals find stable decent-pay jobs to support themselves and their families over the long term? Most likely, they will end up on welfare and food stamps which require Uncle Sam to print even more money... 2) What long-term negative academic impact? He's accurately stated that high academic achievements resulting in technological advancements are crucial to sustaining an "empire" (which the USA is NOT). Study school and college rankings/scores in predominantly hispanic and latino communities (use GreatSchools.org for example.) A consistent discouraging trend will affirm this point. Note: You cannot blame on factors like poor facilities, incompetent teachers, etc., because these areas used to do very well with the original demographics before the "take-over".
The truth is the truth. Be open-minded. It's hard and painful to accept the truth, but is usually more beneficial if you do, because then you can identify and fix any issues it may present.

Thank You!! While we’ve always maxed out out company 401K (including catch-up once I turned 50) the great debate was putting extra money into savings or against the mortgage - I was for saving and my wife was for mortgage reduction even with a 15 year fixed rate of 2.125%
I now clearly see the wisdom of paying off the mortgage and becoming debt free before I retire…so we continue to drive our 15 year old cars (and spend the money to maintain them in tip-top condition), continue to max out retirement savings and basically throw everything else against the mortgage.
Thanks for the fantastic video that has me whole heartedly switching to my wife’s point of view!

Greetings.

      Allah سبحانه وتعالى said,
When harm touches man, he calls to Us (for help); then when We have (rescued him from that harm and) changed it into a favour from Us, he says: "Only because of knowledge (that I possess) I obtained it." Nay, it is only a trial, but most of them know not!
      قَدْ قَالَهَا الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَمَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ
Verily, those before them said it, yet (all) that they had earned availed them not.
So, the evil results of that which they earned overtook them. And those who did wrong of these will also be overtaken by the evil results for that which they earned; and they will never be able to escape.
Do they not know that Allah enlarges the provision for whom He wills, and straitens it (for whom He wills). Verily, in this are Ayat (Signs) for a people who believe! [Az-Zumar 39:49-52]
And strain not your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them (polytheists), the splendour of the life of this world, that We may test them thereby. But the provision (good reward in the Hereafter) of your Lord is better and more lasting. [Ta-Ha 20:131]

Putting our time and effort in activities and investments that will yield a profitable return in the future is what we should be aiming for. Success depends on the actions or steps you take to achieve it. Show me a man without investment and I'll tell you how long it takes to go bankrupt. Investing creates a safe haven for the future. With the right investment choice that has at least a 10% minimum risk and with the advice of an expert, profits and interest is guaranteed.

@marguerite yager Sorry you had a difficulty with econ.I received two A's in micro and macroeconomics in college without going to class except on test days. I think I had an easy time of it because the book that we used was excellent and being an engineering student, I had a lot of experience with cartesian coordinate system graphs in other classes so I more easily understood what was being projected. This particular discussion by Mr. Daleo is a cleverly constructed neoliberal capitalist opinion that is mostly miscommunicated.

Schools are conrolled by the governments which don´t want us to mature and know what we should know. Otherwise they can´t have us under control and continue lying as they´re used to. On other words they can´t keep the same pattern of rise ad fall - can´t produce money out of nothing but paper ; which their greed and incompetece of solving problems requires from them to keep the same pattern on and on; and it´s good enough for them and for the moment, but not for the society permanently and as a whole.

On the beginning of your video first 5 minutes you nailed core issue when USA Empire was running out of gold as a coverage for its currency $. At that moment why not look for alternatives to cover $ with basket of currencies 💱or natural resources like oil. What was the real reason to just print $ out like that without any coverage that eventually leading inflation 📈🚀, any economist here tell me the reason. Thanks for this remarkable video 👍

Great video! Good to hear that the decision to have a worthless fiat currency was “…temporary…”.
Last week marked 51 years since Nixon took us off the gold standard, and most fiat currencies fail around 30 years.
The U.S. National debt is untenable and by design. Buying and holding physical Silver & Gold is good insurance for a failing currency.

Wait for Turkey to make problems with Greece, again. Russia will intervene and occupy Turkey. Russia will invade Europe, but will be defeated.
Chine will then use this to invade Russia. China will take Russia, they'll be cruel. Chine will march to Europe, America will use a psionic weapon on China, and Europe will be okay again, and Russia returns to Russia.
Once China invades Russia, the global economy will stop. Hunger will be everywhere around the world.
Millions will die. Prepare or die, for there will be disease, famine, drought, the waters will disappear..

The Federal Reserve creates inflation by printing more fiat currency. Easy way to prevent inflation is to not print fiat currency. Increasing interest rates is yet another way of robbing people of their wages & savings. The bottom line, it is the Federal Reserve that is the cause of all our economic problems. Get rid of the Federal Reserve.

    • Jeff S
      Jeff S 7 months ago

@Dirk-Jan Toot Yup. More life experience generally equates to greater mental stability (in relationship to the forest, not merely the trees), and thus, less surprises. Or perhaps a better way to state it is to say that, regardless of external events, you KNOW you. Over time, you've PROVEN yourself to yourself, balls to bones.
You're finally comfortable in your own skin, which allows you to assume a much more stoic, peaceful view of life events. Rather than being a prisoner OF the rollercoaster car, you can step outside it as it's happening, see the larger context, and genuinely smile. Why? Because it's familiar. This ain't your first rollercoaster. Won't be your last. You've been here before. You already know how this chapter ends. Now, all that's left to do is enjoy the ride, and maybe find meaning in helping others navigate it.
I'm closing in on the big 5-0 now, and although external events have gotten weirder on the whole, I remain unmoved. So, "Pick your favorite cigar, friend. Take your time, I'm not going anywhere. My front porch is always open to you. Sit back and relax ... let's enjoy a good, meaty conversation. Tomorrow morning, the sun will rise once again."

    • Dirk-Jan Toot
      Dirk-Jan Toot 7 months ago

@Jeff S true, it also comes with age. I say that as a relatively young 29 y/o but I really see how my attitude and distance to current events has changed compared to the 2008 crisis when I was in high school.
Even though I did have history lessons, nothing beats personal experience of living through historical events. We all contextualise events relative to our lifetime, and the older you are the more reference material you have. No one lives for hundreds of years though, so to still see the even longer term patterns and contextualise them we must not only know historical patterns but internalize them to an extent where we actually can use them as reference and that makes current events less scary as they fit into a larger framework.
And then indeed you can look at it as a clown show. Instead of getting overly excited about a revolution and finally 'getting those bastards', you know better. That this is just a phase, and out of the ashes of the old order will come a new one where future generations are also going to fight against.

    • Jeff S
      Jeff S 7 months ago

@Dirk-Jan Toot .... and the cyclical song of the humanity's history plays out again via the generation we birthed, the one they will, and on down the line. Gain sufficient philosophic distance from our modern clown show, and the view does offer somewhat of a fresh take on the biblical concept of "generational sin", does it not?
