Technically farming instruments that were merely used in martial arts by poor farmers who did not have the money for weapons. Or, notably, and somewhat ironically given the American contest, everything but farming instruments were banned for the peasant classes to own in Japan after a couple of sword hunts. Even touching a sword was a criminal act, but obviously farmers need nunchucku.

The simple fact is, unless used by someone who actually knows what they're doing, Nunchucks are more dangerous to the user than another person and unless specifically made with enough weight to cause significant harm are in no way a lethal weapon even when used by someone who knows what they're doing.
Far better than the legit lethally dangerous weapons legally carried by most American citizens >.>

Nice job picking out the obscure Shaw Brothers China Vs Japan Film “Heroes Of The East” (1978) in time for the joke segment.
Though technically Gordon Liu’s Weapon was the “San-Jei-Guen” (Three-section-pole) and not the “Shuan-Jei-Guen” (“Double-Section-Pole”/Nunchaku)
In any case, *both* weapons are less harmful to society than a .45 or an AR15, and rightfully should be made *fully* legal.

I'm flashing back to Dave Barry's famous quote:
"Karate is a form of martial arts in which people who have had years and years of training can, using only their hands and feet, make some of the worst movies in the history of the world."

Nunchuckes aren't even dangerous compared to practically any other martial arts weapons. They're more dangerous to the person using them in a lot of scenarios and if someone is that proficient with them that they're a legitimate threat they would be much more dangerous with practically anything else. It's kind of absurd they were ever banned to begin with but i guess thats nothing new here

Actually, nunchucks are a defensive weapon, used for restraints and disarming. Bruce Lee wasn't really demonstrating thier functionality, so much as showing off, because he could do that. The flailing technique is mostly used to switch hands, or set up for a take down, and not effective as an assault.

  • Andrew Flowers

Drugs aren't roads, sidewalks, or ports. Doctors prescribe drugs for many reasons, often pricey, experimental, and dangerous.Marijuana could save the masses millions on pain relievers, alone. Pharmaceutical companies don't want the competition. That's the real issue, and it shouldn't bear on legality of possession, or consumption.

    • Bradden Scott
      Bradden Scott 5 months ago

@Andrew Flowers I mean, not actually imperialist as the Emperor had no power and they were loyal to the shogun, and it was not due to poverty but the rather the shogun having instituted "sword hunts" to dearm the citizens that had been armed over the past 200+ years of militarized society in Japan, also known as the Sengoku Jidai or "Warring States Period". Also, everyone used spears, not just poor people. Spears were the most common weapon among the samurai armies as well, I am not actually sure that the sword hunts allowed for spears, the exceptions were generally farming implements.
Also, samurai warriors (which is kind of redundant) did not ruthlessly attack unarmed peasants. They put down rebellions, in the same way that everyone does and has done. The reason for the sword hunts and the banning of guns in Japan was to promote stability and stop the killing. For the 250ish years that followed Japan was a peaceful country with no wars and very little fighting, mostly in the form of duels and family feuds. There was an untold genocide as a country that produced enough food to feed 25000000 people grew to a population of 30000000 and maintained that population for the majority of that 250 year period, but that did not have much to do with weapons. The most notable major peasant rebellion was led by a group of Buddhist (warrior) monks who also terrorized the peasants, and everyone was armed on all sides of that, with real weapons no less. Worth remembering that the backbone of the Japanese armies in the Sengoku Jidai were the large units of armed peasants, samurai were a noble class and only made up something like 1% of the population. Their place in society was very similar to knights in medieval society, who had peasants that would act as soldiers for them in war but also were the active participants in the economy that the knights relied on. Both groups relied on different forms of serfs to feed and arm themselves. A knight's fee (or in old norse a hird, which is related to the group of soldiers, or hirdsmen, that would fight under the thane/thegn) is the amount of land given to a knight to pay for him to live in such a lifestyle that he could dedicate himself to learning how to fight and nothing else (how responsible they were with time management is another issue) while having the horse, weapons and armour needed to serve as a knight. Samurai had something similar from their lords and production was measured in koku, which is the amount of rice it takes to feed one individual for one year. In both cases the peasants were attached to the land, in the European case very strictly, it was illegal to displace serfs or sell them, they were a kind of slave, but you did not own them, the land did. You owned the land.

As long as they're legal there will be videos of people hitting themselves either in the forehead or the junk with them, and you can't pay for entertainment like that.

The first or certainly one of the first home videos I saw on TV, was of some guy nunchunking himself in the nuts.
