Yeah I read the IBUYPOWER reply... it does say a lot if they had no idea their tech support was this awful until now. I mean its a goddamn problem with the RAM being loose, thats not a very difficult problem to talk some one through. If they couldn't even do that politely.... then what was that guy getting paid to do exactly?

Accountability hurts but it doesn't have to be terminal. iBuyPower took a TKO here and have to rebuild from less than zero. If they are serious about fixing the company they need to rebrand.

    • TheAdamGore

One shitty employees attitude should not reflect on the whole company. Especially since they were so quick to either reprimand or fire him. (depends on what state). Good of Linus to pin their response.
Thanks for making this series too !

the unplug part always gets me because if you unplug the system the case isn't grounded anymore. So technically you should keep it on and only flip the switch but than again technically you have to make sure it is unplugged to even operate it according to safety laws unless you are certified to work under 110/230/400V Voltage.
So what is the super correct way, I am just nitpicky here.^^

Holy shit dude. The guy has no imagination and teaching skills. Who the fuck hired him for tech support if he can't explain what two sticks or ram look like top a customer on a phone???? At least fucking try dude. I would've said something along the lines of: towards the top of the motherboard before you inside the case, you will find a fan of some sort and to the right of that fan should be two sticks with latches below and above them. Push on the latches to let loose the sticks and pull them out and then put them back in, gently giving the sticks an even push on the center of each stick and them clamping in the latches towards the sticks by pushing on them. How hard is that?

Origin did well but I feel like it depends on who you end up with at that moment.
DELL...Across the board has TERRIBLE support...Even if you end up with someone who is ok...ANY COMPANY that has a HELP CENTER that has FORIEGN staff in my mind is inexcusable.
Your customers are calling for help...And you CHEAP OUT on one of they most KEY steps for a COMPANY.
    TERIBBLE< TERRIBLE< TERRIBLE DECISION.

Seeing iBUYPOWER behave in that way is absolutely disgusting. No one should have to go through that kind of abuse after just spending more than a months rent on a brand new computer. Absolutely disrespectful, like that is a real scenario and it's happened to me, I custom build, there's no tech support for that. So for someone who doesn't know anything about computers buying a pre-build, that guy I don't care if it was a bad day or not, he sounded really confident about being a piece of garbage. Companies really need to hold a higher standard of hiring pieces of garbage, and honestly need to be closely monitored, so that people who deserve those jobs get hired instead. It's just sad really.

I work for tech support in a big company (not gonna mention the name), but we have 90seconds maximum to answer a call. Most of the time, you get an agent within 20 seconds. Then the diagnosis must be done within 5 mins or you send it to next level (service call or advanced technical support). Most of the time, customer is on the line less than 20 mins. (more if it is a network issue or something that require remote session and stuff).
This videos was atrocious to watch (not because of you Linus)

Not surprised with the outcome from HP... I used to deal with them in the late 90's when working for Transport Canada and their hardware was horrible, but contacting and dealing with them was twice as bad as working on their hardware. I have not, and will never get or work on a HP computer.

Nailed it. It's a policy problem with HP. I worked in an extended warranty call department and there are prompts and procedures you HAVE to follow. I was actually negatively counseled a few times for going above and beyond to solve a problem without involving a technician or the manufacturer.

HP trying to have a form and voice recognition like Apple, but failing, bless. Speaking of Apple, they have the best tech support I've ever used, once you get connected to a higher level adviser. Though I've only used them for support with iCloud and never a hardware issue (those I usually manage to fix myself).

  • Mike Mayaka
    Mike Mayaka 23 days ago

The iBuyPower guy basically said, why are you calling tech support for a technical problem. If someone knows how to check if RAM is seated they wouldn't call tech support! Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. I do give tech support to my friends quite a lot, and I admit, I'd struggle to describe how to check RAM over the phone, but I usually use a video call to walk them through it.
