Would you say the stage 4 isn’t worth it then? Like is this a direct result of the stage 4’s increased power?

Bring out the Warhorse. These new Harleys arent as reliable as Evos. Plus the Evo shows its spirit with good vibrations and doesnt ride like a scooter for millennials. Not knocking the Milwaukee Eights, just saying Evos are damn near bulletproof 👊

that bonneville watercooled 900 with Tec camshaft in it is a great bike 70hp and high torque. those and tiger 800s seem very good for long tours especially the 800 that sanders did over 50000 trouble free miles when he took it round the world. like Adam, I need reliable bike, like for despatch riding, when you pay $$$ for harley it needs to be strong but yes uprated oil pump but his old bike was better. would luv to be in usa meeting patriots and vets. keep up good work. got royal engineers in my family so we all luv you vets in usa but I dont agree with the warmonger politicians personally and their lies.

These blowing up M8 motors just keeps confirming my suspicions along with the latest confirmation: I was talking with a guy who owns four Harley’s including one 2017 Road glide, and he was told by a Harley dealership mechanic that the M8 was designed to have all the oil in the motor, when running, and none left in the pan! So that would explain why Harley won’t let us see the oil pressure, we would be saying, WTF , why is the oil pressure so low! Now it’s making sense why if you do a 114 kit or a stage 4 you will probably blow-up the M8 because first you will starve the oil pump, then it will fail, then there goes your motor!

The most dependable product on the property is the HONDA side x side! A stock HD motor is fine but unless the factory themselves installed the 114 kit i absolutely would not trust the longevity of that motor.

The oil pump in 2017 models cause sumping and Harley knows this and has been working on it . Thy will change your pump under warranty. Adam they should have changed your pump knowing you were taking a stage 4 kit along with the kit installation. I’m about to get a stage 3 for my 2018 breakout and I asked and it was confirmed I have the latest release oil pump that fixes the problem . Adam it was a ticking time bomb with your faulty pump from installation bro. The last oil pump release solved the problem . It took a couple to keep up . Any 2017 bikes built before October most likely have this issue but will not happen if you ride like a grandpa and shift before 4K rpm. The stage kits cause you to wAnt to goose it and push the bike which will cause it to sump from the sub par oil pump and a stage 4 being a top end performance power band bringing power over 4500 rpm is just a welcome mat to sumping if one wants to experience the stage 4 power they will have to hang in that realm meaning you will melt the motor. Now I got a 2018 breakout and i have the new oil pump and I beat the shut out of my bike taking her to the governor and no issue. People with older pumps but no problems are not in the clear they just don’t ride hard enough .

The 2 Harley Davidsons I’ve owned, 2012 Ultra Classic CVO and 2016 Road Glide Ultra CVO, both blew up on me around the 35K-40k area. The 2012 was outside factory warranty but I had the extended warranty. They rebuilt that engine and I was without the bike for 2.5 months. Then it crapped out again only after about 4-5k. Traded it for the 2016. The 2016 was still in factory warranty and they did an engine swap. I was without the bike for 25 days. Both bikes same parts failed. My conclusion is that the base level engines (103 or 107) components cannot handle the extra pressures of the 110 or 114/117 upgrades. So I personally will not be buying another CVO again. I still have my 2016 in my garage, but I went out and bought a 2018 Honda Goldwing Tour DCT for my daily/ long distance rider. The Harley will be a weekend warrior around the county.

Adam I really appreciate everything you do for veterans. Only been watching youtube for about 4 mths. now and found your channel shortly afterwards. I thought this is a he'll of a guy, doing what he does for the vets. and all the seat time you have under your belt in such a short period. I'm very proud of you and I know all my fellow vets are too. So you have lit a fire under my ass. I'm going g to take one of my basket case bike, build it and give it to a fellow vet hear in east Tennessee. If you have any ideas, suggestions or comments I would greatly appreciate the input. If you could pass this on to John Maxwell and the other youtube I would greatly appreciate that too. I wish I could help with the world record but the bike is down. Good luck at breaking it and with everything you do.

This is the problem with these M8's. Was wondering if yours would do it with the miles you put on. By the sounds of it you have a classic case of the motor sumping. Stage 4 noted for it. I am a died in the wool Harley rider but this M8 is just junk and the motor co has no idea what to do. Transmissions are also transferring fluid from trans to primary. You need to check the transmission oil level now also. Ask your dealer about these issues and you will get "never heard of it" "haven't seen it on any bikes here" "they have fixed the problem". Ridiculous. I really wanted to get a new M8 but just can't risk it, will go for a good slightly used 15 or 16 twin cam RG. Beware M8 owners, check that transmission oil and if you get any indication of sumping (loss of power, high heat) stop and trailer it to your dealer. You NEED to check these things constantly now. Don't bury your heads in the sand, your wallet will pay.

I will give you all a huge, i mean very huge warning. DO NOT INSTALL ANY AFTERMARKET PARTS ON YOUR HD IF IT'S STILL UNDER WARRANTY ESPECIALLY AT A DEALERSHIP. The motor company is going through all work orders on old and new on any bike that has a warranty issue. They are looking for reasons to flag your bike and not warranty things because of aftermarket parts. They never used to look at old work orders, but sad to say now they do. I'm being completely serious. And take it from a 14year master tech. I have never seen or heard them do this before. They even flagged bikes we modded before they were sold and still currently on the sales floor

You breaking the world-record while riding the warhorse would be so appropriate and fitting for her retirement.

What’s up with Harley. My brand new 2018 Ultra Limited with107 stock motor developed an oil leak at 500 miles it was a bad casting in the case. All warrantee work but no bike for a month brand new motor gets torn down.

  • Modern Day Drifter
Modern Day Drifter 7 months ago

Get the Warhorse out for the record ride. Get a new 107 installed and leave out the stage 4 crap. Put in a set of cams, air, exhaust and a tune and the bike will run as long if not longer than the Warhorse. I no longer bring my bike to Harley for anything except what might be covered under warranty or recall. I do all the service and upgrades myself. I’m leaving the 107 as is. Plenty of torque out the box.

Everything happens for a reason in this case what better way to "bring it home" then on the old warhorse the bike that you have set so many records with. Also funny story I thought I'd share with ya'll so the other day I was at the grocery store and I was wearing my ASR shirt and I heard the cashier reading it out loud and then she asked me "what kinda rides do Adam Sandoval make?" her question kinda confused me so I asked "what do you mean?" She replied "well do they do fair rides big roller coaster rides what?" Lol I did explain to her who you are and what you do so hopefully you have a new subscriber.

This just confirms to me 100% why Harley took away the oil pressure value on the Info page that normally shows air temp, oil pressure, and EITMS enabled. I knew they were hiding an oil pressure issue and didn’t want us to see the horrifying oil pressure value. If we could see what the oil pressure is actually doing, it would have lost sales and had people demanding the oil pressure problem be fixed. How can you argue an oil pressure issue if you’re not able to show them on the gauge. Blind Americans by taking away their ability to see the facts? Hmmm I wonder where Harley learned that trick.

Yes, Adam the stage iv sumping, blowing engine story is out there everywhere.. Just dont put the stage IV on it and you should be fine.. If you put a cam in it you should be fine but once you start boring out the jugs you have issues for some reason with these machines. ALSO there is some bikes that have a oil/transmission fluid transfer to the primary. You can go on to HD forums and read all about this. As for the transfer issue just check your oil and transmission fluid every so often ESPECIALLY after some long rides and during some like you do. If you do that you should be fine. I have also been reading the more you ride above 4500 RPMS the more issues you can have with the transfer. Again just trying to give you some info I have been reading over the past year. I have an 18 SGS myself. so far so good, I have done a stage 1.. These engines do like to eat oil naturally (whatever that means, HD says 1qt per 1500 miles is "acceptable") so to be on the safe side while you learn your new ride check your fluids (oil & Transmission) constantly up till the 1k, 5k, and 10k so you can learn how your bike handles those. After that you should be ok, and your new engine should have all of the new oil pumps etc. in there so you should be good to go after that.
Good luck on the ride, wish I wasnt so far away.
PS I am sure there is a very popular you tube HD mechanic that will be at the ride which you can pick his brain on these issues.....

It's not just the stage 4 upgrades. The stock motors are sumping as well. Shame on HD for selling inferior bikes year after year after over 100 years these should be the most reliable bikes. It's all about keeping the stock holders happy instead of the folks that have been buying and riding their bikes for years. Me, I'm still bitter about the trouble I had to deal with my 07 SEUC. No more new HD for me. Hope Adam gets his resolved. Some are installing a vent to battle the sumping issues.
