Most USELESS Military Inventions

  • Published on Jul 12, 2019
  • The development of modern weapons is believed to have begun in 1364 when the first recorded firearm was used. This continued until 1892 until automatic handguns made their appearance. Over the millennia, people have come up with very interesting weapons, some have been huge successes, while others have been a complete waste of time and money, and it’s those military inventions we’ll look at today.

Oh, Gyrojet is "JY-roh-jet", not "GY-roh-jet". And for any Greeks out there, it's not "HEE-roh-jet" either...although their military are experimenting with a "Gyro Jet-Assisted Surface-to-Mouth Multi-Launcher", a delivery vehicle similar to the Katyusha rocket packs, that fires delicious pita rolls containing tasty meat-cone slices and tzatziki sauce to hungry citizens.

7:51 thats a Elephant/Ferdinand, not a Maus. The tank you show afterwards is a Maus. It was also the Panzerkampfwagen VIII, not just the Panzerkampfwagen.

Mr. Eye, I do like your videos and subjects, if you speak a little clearer please, that would be great. The reason I say this is because every time you do voice overs I have to turn on captions so I know what you are saying.

The B-1 Lancer, is one of the most awesome aircraft ever built and flown. Obviously you've never seen one in person. If you had, you'd change your tune about it. I have, up close and personal, this Is one badass aircraft..... Believe that!!
This aircraft doesn't in any way belong in this video. It carries Nuke's ..,.... Real fast and far....
    Never knew what hit you...ever!!

      sparkplug1018 2 months ago +1

The issue isn't the aircraft itself, which when viewed objectively is a damn good aircraft. The issue is the development of it, which was a true train wreck. But yeah once they got all that figured out, despite it costing way more then it should have it really is a pretty good aircraft.

Currently the the b1 is one of the best bombers in the world due to how fast it flies while carrying a crap ton of munitions into the battlefield. It was first designed to drop nukes and not conventional bombs. Also it holds some records about speed and distance. And since the military has been upgrading the plane it has become one of the most versatile bombers in the world.

      Michael Greene 2 months ago

@sparkplug1018 Not that I know of, but, they do have a SR Blackbird, it's a awesome aircraft too, but, to the best of my knowledge, not a B-1 Lancer, now they have the B-52 bomber there. I wish they had a B-1.

    • sparkplug1018
      sparkplug1018 2 months ago

@Michael Greene Yeah id agree with you, it really shouldn't be on this list. Doesn't Warner Robins AFB have a B1-B on display?

    • Michael Greene
      Michael Greene 2 months ago

@sparkplug1018 I'm not trying to start an argument with you, I was just in disagreement with what this video was saying about the B-1 Lancer, that it was useless as a military weapon. But, I see that you and I are on the same page with this aircraft, I used to watch them take off from Warner Robins Air Force Base, Ga. I felt a great sense of pride in knowing this was our bomber, and what it stands for. The sound of them taking off is like no other sound on Earth. I didn't mind that my taxes helped bring it to reality. It has made the world a lot safer place for all, in my humble opinion. I hated to see them move them to Texas. It was a pleasure to meet you and see what your thoughts were on the B-1 Lancer. But I still say that it doesn't belong in this video. But........ That's just me.

Here we go again, saying the initials for world wars, which uses _seven_ syllables to say "World War One (or Two)," which is only three. Granted, your speaking paced is only slightly slower than an auctioneer, but it's still awkward. Otherwise, it shows that military inventors were not all geniuses! BTW, was that worthless French tank equipped with the Chauchat machine gun?

    • sparkplug1018
      sparkplug1018 2 months ago

@Oldenweery I know exactly who you're talking about too! But like I said as a weapon it was OK, not great by any means but OK. The replacement parts were the main issue as fixing the mag would have been a simple enough thing.
The weapons real problems and reputation though come from the American version, which was chambered for our much more powerful 30-06 Springfield round. Being designed around the 8MM Lebel round, this caused all kinds of issues such as rapid overheating and parts breakage.
If you want to see it run through its paces, albeit in a modern clean setting against its contemporaries search for Project Lightning on RU-clip. Kind of interesting.

    • Oldenweery
      Oldenweery 2 months ago

@sparkplug1018 Yeah, one of the military historians who documented the Chauchat (which they pronounced as "Shoo-shoo" for some reason), said it wasn't just the openings that allowed dirt to jam it, but if something broke, you couldn't scrounge parts from other broken ones to fix it. This is incredible, as it was a Frenchman, Honoré LeBlanc , who proposed the idea of interchangeable parts in the _mid-1700s_ and American inventor, Eli Whitney who built muskets using interchangeable parts on an _assembly line_ early in the 1800s. Yet here were the "Shoo-shoo" POS in the nineteen-teens. The historians said the weapon had one feature the doughboys liked, however: "It wasn't any good as a gun, but it had parts you could use to build a _still."_

If you go through and look at all of the stuff that is looked at, this is only scratching the surface. A great majority of programs never even get this far and still end up costing tens even hundreds of millions of dollars.
The M2 Bradly and Osprey are 2 great examples to add to the B1's shall we say colorful development.
Also worth noting, we look at the Chauchat today as a real POS, but compared to its contemporaries it wasn't the worst.

The Strategic Defense Initiative? Really? Sure, at the time Reagan rolled it out, the Dems ridiculed it. But it didn’t take the Dems that long to get on board. Now, we have lasers being mounted on warships and even being used in space. We have kinetic weapons that can bring down ICBMs. Not only all this, but Gorbachev apparently believed enough in them to cause him to offer Reagan anything for the US not to develop them. Reagan wouldn’t give them up, which had a lot to do with the US bankrupting an evil empire. This video is a joke and an attempt to rewrite history.

I would add the pikelhaube. It was thought that a soldier with a spearheaded helmet would be more intimidating to the enemy. It wasn't. It did make the wearer a better target.

Here. Do one on this subject. The total use of materials on all wars. The total loss of those. The total loss of life. The total loss of cities and towns. If you go back the 300 years alone and looked at all of the loss part for them to play war, what could the earth would have looked like now if all of that never happened and people just lived a life. NASA for an very good example. All proven a very fake organization. Just say if all of those trillions of taxpayer money went to the country and not to the proven other groups, what would the United States look like today? From cities, what people wear for clothes. To homes. Vehicles. Anything. Where would we be at if none of this distinction as wright now going on, never happened. That would have been very interesting. We will never know although we still can dream. So far.

Why use the b-1 lancer a high altitude bomber for the thumbnail? I'm not complaining or anything just curious

  • BosepheusJones
    BosepheusJones 2 months ago +5

Woah, the B1? Yes, it may seem useless, but it was ahead of it's time. Plus, featuring The B1 in the thumb nail is very misleading. At the time, the B1 (aka BONE) featured innovative updates to radar, jet engines, and payload capacity. It was designed during the cold war to ensure parity with the Soviets.
Additionally, I've experienced a BONE bombing run while in Iraq. It is incredible and terrifying.
If anything, the BONE is an example of time and world situations moving beyond current capabilities.
