In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

"Eat less, and move more (to breathe more) to lose weight ". Works for many, but the human metabolism can then reduce at which point weight loss or health improvement may stop.
If so look at when to eat and what to eat as fasting and ketogenic periods now have so much science backing up health and weight outcomes, plus Inflammation (and therefore pain reductions) that they are worth looking further at when you've hit a wall in your health goals.
Changes for some in fasting could be just a return to 3 meals a day from the 70's era as he mentioned to cut out the regular snacking to reduce insulin levels and inflammation. Some people may find 12-16hr fasting over each 24hrs more helpful.
But everyone is rather unique so try things and just stick with what works best for your body. Eat less move more is a great place to start and may be the end of it for you. Plus changing to more natural whole foods instead of processed and junk is a great idea for most people's health.
Much love to you on your health journeys folks.

I was 230lbs at my heaviest. My success to getting to my current weight of 140lbs, a year later, is to quit drinking alcohol completely, eat only whole or chopped organic fruits and vegetable, and don't eat anything else, no meat, no dairy, no eggs, and basically no processed food at all. And only cook the veggies/mushrooms, never cook fruits. I eat at least 4 bananas a day, sometimes more, they have good protein, good carbs, and fill you up for a while. All of the non-vegan food will not only make it tough to lose weight, but it will also make you unhealthy in general. Pills are not the answer, keto is definitely not the answer. exercise is good too, try to walk about 3-4mph everyday for an hour. I do about 240 pushups and a few minutes of shadowboxing every weekday. And that's it! good luck out there everyone, I know you can do it :)

Very good, and at least is pointing to they aspect of lack of understanding of our physiology. A key issue not addressed is that when you rely on 'eating less', what you will also slowdown is the metabolism for those reactions to take place... even though you are moving more!

    • Ollie Thomas
Ollie Thomas 14 days ago +1

He is saying how breathing doesn’t contribute to climate change because the carbon we excrete has come from the sunlight via the carbon cycle. It then re-enters the cycle when plants photosynthesise it. Fossil fuels, however, contain ‘old’ carbon that’s been out of the cycle for many years, hence when we dig it up and burn it we add more carbon to the cycle than can be handled by plants and boom, climate change.

@5:00 into this farce he has a 'chart' showing his main point, with a big arrow labeled BIOCHEMISTRY, something this man never studied. His 'degree' is in communication and at best, physics. Living beings do not burn chemicals like your gasoline engine, and any 'theories' of biochemistry based on purely chemical processes are over the top simplifications of processes that even experts in biology still struggle with understanding. His book and presentation here are dangerously misleading oversimplifications. More recent studies pretty much debunk exercise as a sole remedy and cite diet as a primary cause of weight gain. With a complex relationship between diet, hormones and brain chemistry being the probable root causes of obesity. People, there is no simple answer to this complex problem. Exercise has failed, diet is our only hope. And by diet I do not mean eating less, I mean eating smarter and staying away from foods that trigger hormonal activity that leads to obesity.

@Mike Davis Leuluai Maybe listen to actual doctors that study obesity and weight gain/loss? Some popular youtube lecturers like Doctor of pediatrics & endocrinology Robert Lustig or Doctor Mark Hyman for two of the more popular. Along with many other actual scientist/doctors that are speaking out about causes of obesity and why it is more complex than what some people believe. Also there are some fantastic Ted talks by actual doctors and their struggles to understand this complex biological issue.

What he says isn't even correct.
He claims that what you poop out has never been inside you?

Literally the thing that makes sure that all your healthy stool has the same color is due to stuff inside your body being pooped out.
Or does he think red blood cells where also never in your body?
Or what do you think of all the other products made in your body that need to be excreted?

    • strateeg32
      strateeg32 10 days ago

@GravInducedSleepTrac which is not true. Poop contains substances that are added to it from your body.

The problem is that eating less and NOT conserving energy by being sedentary is unnatural.
It's the survival response to eat more and be lazy. He should have said that. Look at cats or dogs or gorillas in the wild.

8 or so months ago I dropped 125lbs in 11 months. Constantly people asked if I was doing keto, or weight watchers, or whatever. I responded with: "weight loss is nothing more than a simple math equation: burn more calories than you consume." People overcomplicate weight loss so damn much. They go on diets that rid themselves of food they enjoy eating. I didn't abolish things I loved to consume, I'd just eat less of it, or exercise off the difference. I wasn't in the gym 3x a week. I was a hair more active than I was at nearly 300 pounds, I just ate way less.
I wish I understood this before I spent 27 years of my life in the "morbidly obese" category. I told myself it was just genetics, I was predisposed to being overweight. Fact is, I was just lazy and afraid to try.
Y'all, you can lose weight. I promise you. and after the first couple weeks, the eating less becomes normal. I did intermittent fasting as well (fast 16, eat 8) which I think helped, but it's all just basic math. Get a calorie tracking app and stick to it (myfitnesspal worked great for me, I still track everything despite having hit my maintenance weight 9 months ago).
