Thanks for sharing Dina! Hello from NZ! I was adopted from Russia and I didn't meet my birth parents until I was 21. I just recently did a DNA test myself that I shared on my own video. It's always interesting for everyone! Thanks again for sharing!

You guys are such a beautiful and funny couple! Love your sense of humour 😊 and for all those commenting about not knowing what Iberian is or where, that's pretty normal for people in the UK. We would just be familiar with that area being Spain and Portugal. Doesn't mean we're dumb!

  • Ann Lyon

You both look lovely and sound British. Yes, finding out your ancestry can be surprising. I had my father and brother tested. Their results were different from each other but my brother carried my mothers dna too. It would be a good idea to test a near male relative to see if you have Egyptian dna.

In so many DNA test videos people have no idea what Iberian and Ashkenazi mean, it blows my mind. And people always think certain things are going to come up. I watched one video where this guy was shocked because it didn’t say Latino like.... what would that even be. Then he was confused about why it said Iberian and Native American lol. I saw another where a guy expected his to say African-American. It genuinely makes me sad how ignorant people are when it comes to stuff like this

No Abla, your Egyptian side is represented by both the ME + NA components and the Greek component is actually your so-called Turkish ancestry because Anatolia was inhabited by many ethnicities and people and that Turkish grandparent you might had was actually Greek who assimilated into Ottoman/Turkish culture (language and religion) whether forcefully or not and then migrated to Egypt sometime in the last 200 years.
    Greetings from Egypt

I've watched a number of these DNA result videos and I am really amazed at how many people have a problem with "Iberia". This is basic European geography, folks, stuff you learn in what, sixth grade?
On the other hand, if it leads to so much confusion, these ancestry companies should maybe just do away with that term.

When I did DNA tests, from National Geographic (their first DNA test--not a recent one) and my 23 and Me, I got sort of the same results with a few differences. I'll probably wait a couple more years before trying again as apparently the European royalty, in my blood, messes with the test results. My maternal great-grandfather was under the impression he was a Creek Indian. Either he was stolen, as a baby, from white settlers, and never knew he adopted, or the DNA tests (as some have claimed) won't show American Indian DNA if there is also European royalty.

I took an ancestry test and uploaded my raw dna to my heritage and the results were quite different. First my native American Indian showed up..then went away on ancestry. It showed that my daughter was Ashkenazi Jew from my side but only showed my dna from the Israel area. It also coughed up West Africa in a like 1.7% thing. That is when I found out my 5th & 6th great grandmothers were mother and daughter slaves. On my heritage it showed that I was 59% Scandinavian. I was so shocked about that. Never heard that one before either. Lately, they changed the science and now the Middle East and African history is completely gone on Ancestry. It now reads that I am 52% England/Wales/Northwest Europe, 30% Germanic Europe, 9% France and a few other minor ethnicities that include Sweden, Ireland & Scotland & Baltic states. My Jewish, Native American & African heritage has simply disappeared from ancestry dna.

I did my DNA test, always thought I was mostly German, because both my grandparents on my father side is all German, my mothers grandma came from Ireland and my mothers father was born in Sweden.....
I came back as 73 % Swedish...some Irish...little German, and a little Iberian....I said no way I am Iberian...my son in law told me about when Spain invaded England in the 1400s, on there way back to Spain many Spaniards ship wreaked in Ireland and decided to stay, they assimilated with the Irish....my mother use to talk about some being what she called the black Irish, dark hair, darker skinned...the Spaniards married some Irish girls, had babies....
When I read all the 3 cousins I had I was amazed, looked up my great grandma, my great grandfather came from Germany...I even found his will, his address, found out I was named after my great grandfather, great uncle...I never knew that....I can’t imagine people not wanting to learn about their heritage

What DIFFERENCE does it make what your DNA says about you? You are your culture, whatever that may be. You are who you are because of where you grew up, how your parents raised you, who your friends and family are, what education you had, your life experiences. This idea that your DNA somehow tells you WHO YOU ARE is utterly ridiculous and is just marketing HYPE by the DNA companies.

As someone who is really into genealogy I don't think MyHeritage was the best choice. They're quite well known for giving really wrong and strange results (as they also did to me). As you're part North African, you should have gone with 23andMe as they give the most accurate results for Africans. Ancestry would have been a better choice regarding your English side.

    • Anisa Ali
      Anisa Ali 4 years ago

@Trinh Nguyen That may be the case for you but not for me. i am half Somali from my father and 49.0% Somali sounds pretty accurate as we have zero known admixture even a couple generations back. My mothers side was also accurate and correlated fairly with results from Ancestry.
The updates and new data was put together over an extended period of time, it wasn't magically created. Can't say much for what type of results Asians receive with 23andMe but for Africans it is another story.

    • Eileen Suki
      Eileen Suki 4 years ago

I noticed myheritage is very accurate in Asian regions, but their precentages are very off. I knew that when i went in, but I just wanted to know my Asian heritage and it was the cheapest in my country. Thought I was indonesian, but nope Chinese. (it makes much more sense being chinese instead of indonesian)
For the accurate precentages I think I will do a 23andme in the future.

    • Trinh Nguyen
Trinh Nguyen 4 years ago +1

Anisa Sorry but their update to me was BS and not truly accurate. Where did they suddenly get so much data in just a few months (I did my test just a few months prior to their soul called update) to have these updates? Therefore, they are not truly accurate.

    • Anisa Ali
Anisa Ali 4 years ago +1

23&Me recently updated their website. They go into specific countries as opposed to simply the region! They narrowed my 49.2% East African to Somali in particular recently which is very accurate.

Those who speak any Indo-European language are all DNA connected back to the area between the Caspian & Black Seas .... about 10,000 years ago.
Arabic is not an Indo-European language but a semitic root language - and with different DNA.
Egyptians are Hamitic ... quite different than Arabic DNA type.
      etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
But of course through the millennia, various tribes conquered, mixed with (and forgot their original languages), temporarily 'passed through' other groups .... 'alphabet soup'.

  • Faisal Arab

To get more accurate results, you need a DNA sample that contains the y-chromosome. Basically it has to be your father, brother, paternal grandfather etc. Women do not inherit the y-chromosome, but inherit X chromosomes from both the father and mother, also known as the mtDNA. You basically got results of your maternal and your father's maternal heritage. Hope this makes more sense, cheers.

Mine is kind of opposite, I did my.heritage.dna also, My results were pretty much what I thought it would be because my family kept good track of their history on my both sides. I was a little surprised on who matches my DNA though, it said many people in Finland match a bit more than most places other than the USA. I was 99.1 percent North and West European and .9 percent middle eastern. My last name is in the jewish surnames so I am guessing thats why the middle eastern but when I look at the DNA match the people who match my DNA that is middle eastern are in Finland some and a few in USA. I was a mix of European, 31 scottish and Irish, 27 English, 20 percent scandinavian, 19.1 percent North Western Europe , German, Dutch, French, Netherlands.. I was told to do 23andme dna search they have a larger database, they will give details like famous people you are related to ect.

23andme is the BEST one to do, I bought ancestry, hertiage, and 23and me. They also update as more people do them. Ancestry is good for linking into ancestors and seeing both. 23andme has medical information no one has. allof them go on sale around American Christmas

North Africans have more Iberian in them than the other way round. That's because Moors mixed with Iberians. Their descendants were considered Moors by default. All of them were kicked out during reconquest.

each child inherits certain genes, so Dina just got a lot of her mom's side and we know that bc she even looks a lot like her mom! lol But that's why siblings can have different percentages

Don’t go confusing your genes with your ethnic heritage. Humans beings have been getting around ever since there were humans. We’ve all got a mix of genes from different racial groups, the percentages will vary, but the most our genes can tell us is how our ancestors got around, who they fell in love with, and who they had children with. You nailed your ethnic heritage when you said you were half Egyptian, half European. I’d like to know where my genes come from, but it wouldn’t define my ethnicity, that’s defined by where I grew up and the culture I grew up in, not where some member of my family came from generations ago. That’s just the genetic evidence of how interesting my ancestors’ lives were, lol

Ethnicity is not a race. Ethnicity and race are two different things.

Wf Coaker Ethnicity is the countries ur people came from ur genes which r ur DNA is the amount u inherited from them like not all ur ethnicity Is gonna show up like there was a girl who did an AncestryDNA test and got 100% India but her mom who was Indian was born with Blonde hair and blue eyes and had her tested and she came back as 8% European So Genes and Ethnicity don’t always inter-lap
