As I write this: 100 comments about the car. 2,600 comments about the turn signal being on.
Yes, I know it was on. I wasn't driving the car at the time. I could not turn off the Maserati's turn signal from the Toyota I was following with, unless I had a very long stick.

Wow! Aside from being decent to look at, that cars interior is an embarassment to Italian design and finish. Not up to Buick or Chrysler, let alone Cadilac and Lincoln. Can't be at all talked about in the same sentence as British Luxury cars of the period. What a POS. for$250,000. Old money people must have laughed their asses off at them.

I generally like this guys videos BUT lots of the things he points out or criticizes as design flaws, quirks or weirdness in his 'reviews' are often add-ons by previous owners or normal stuff on 1960s / early 1970s hand built, low production cars, especially exotics , thats what gave them character 😁😁.........for example they didn't have front fogs as standard from the factory, that switch under the dash is an owner addition, the 'floating' trunk strut was actually meant to be fixed at the loose end and had come unattached on this car ( I've had ghiblis before in the days when I could afford them 😭😭 ). Oh and Doug huge numbers of modern cars still have centre caps on the wheels you have to remove before you can access the wheel nuts , that's not a design flaw from the 70s 🤣🤣

You forgot the oddest feature of all- the cable driven water pump. I'll let you all wonder about that. Drove my 1970 Ghibli from Bremerhaven to Monte Carlo in one day. Guzzled gas like crazy, steered like a Studebaker truck in city traffic , but was light as a feather at 130. Styling is a 10, one of the most beautiful cars ever built, too bad that one was in blue/blue, mine was red with cream leather interior.

You are way, way too harsh on the marks you give it.
For example, styling is more like 15 out of 10!
    Desireability is a thousand x a million!
    And so on, and on.
One thing you did not mention - not sure even if you know, the Ghibli has a solid rear axle (not IRS), and it is sprung by leaf springs.
Ferrari and Lamborghinis of that vintage had IRS.
The Ghibli, Indy, and Ferrari Daytona as well as the Lamborghinis (Espada and Jarama) were fitted with XWX Michelin tires - creme-de-la-creme of the day.

  • Apsco Radiales

The holes behind the driver and passenger - It's called "cross-ventilation", very common at that time, and car makers used to advertise that in their brochures. Most had continous slot at the bottom of the rear window to cross ventilate the cabin.

In these exotic European bespoke makes, the storage area had to be able to accommodate 2 pairs of skis. Just as in North America, most popular winter and early spring outing is down hill skiing. Thus a gentleman and his female companion, needed space to place their skis, poles, boots, and luggage. My Z4 BMW roadster, has this weird door between seats that when open is a tunnel to the trunk. This enable Z4 owner to carry 2 snowboards or two pairs of skis, with poles.

Gorgeous car, truly beautiful, why oh why can't cars be designed like this anymore, the style and wow factor of this original ghibli knocks spots off any modern day maserati, or come to that pretty much any modern day car that springs to mind. Great review Doug I love seeing these old classics being driven, although some of those scores seem a bit harsh, 0-60 in 6.2 secs one of the fastest cars of its day and only deserves 3 of of 10 for acceleration?! Good job you weren't my examiner at college!

Applying the same adjudicating standards to an old car seems counter productive, since you keep mentioning that all the modern accessories did not exist back then. It's like comparing apples with bananas, which is totally unfair to cars that were very good, and rather special in their time. Also, engines are more powerful now, so performance can't possibly be compared. Some of these videos, therefor make no sense, and have no value for people who know, own, and have driven older cars.
