What is the stock suspension size for the street bob

  • William Chauncey
    William Chauncey 2 months ago

Hey brother I love your videos and have followed them to make similar upgrades to my 07. My bike has forward controls on it currently and I’m trying to move them back to the mid control position or to the further forward position. I’ve combed the internet but I honestly don’t know what I’m looking for. Can you help me?

    • Bike N' Bird
Bike N' Bird  2 months ago

Hey William, your best bet would be to comb some Facebook dyna groups. Tell them you're looking to trade forward controls for mids. Chances are you'll find someone willing to trade for free. Install is fairly simple.

I know this is old, but it is still gold... Don't you have to adjust the belt when you raise/lower the bike like this??

I had the same issue with my stock exhaust being in the way of my shocks. I got a new exhaust.

75lbs for a shock nut? Sounds waaaaay high!

  • MrDawnzo
    MrDawnzo 8 months ago

Looks great, how was the ride when you installed it?
If you went with just 13 inch instead of 13.5 do you think it might have fit with that exhaust? Thanks for the video man.

  • Do RC
    Do RC 8 months ago

This may happen in a later video but why not just drop the preload collars all the way down. That would probably make the new shocks the same length as the oem ones.

1200 dollars for the shocks!!!??? That is crazy. That's more than the 4 bilstein's on my 3/4 ton diesel truck!!! That's a hard pass for me!

30 - 40 ft lbs for upper shock nut. 75 ft lbs for the upper mounting stud.

Just a tip if you turn the nut to the left or bolt or whatever till you feel it click and seat in the threads before you tighten it down you’ll never cross threads again.

    • Bike N' Bird
      Bike N' Bird  Year ago

+Jerome amato huge difference. I was torn as well that's why I went 13.5. If I had to pick now I'd go 14 but there's a lot more options at the 13.5 length

For reference, per the Dyna Service Manual, the correct torque for the upper and lower mounting hardware is 30 - 40 ft lbs with a few drops of blue locktight.

+William Chauncey its the stock street bob cover. Its not 100% flat. Its got some bevels on the edges

  • Chris Riester
    Chris Riester Year ago

Couldn't you have just adjusted the ride height on the shocks to lower the bike a bit until you get your new exhaust?

    • Bike N' Bird
Bike N' Bird  Year ago +1

+Chris Riester negative. The prepossessing adjuster doesn't do much for ride height. It was literally dead in the middle of the nut which is also a fairly large nut

+Tim Dunbar nah I've had many situations that were much worse. If the bolt would have stripped... it would have been a different story. But the nut is stupid easy and cheap to fix so just a lesson learned.

    Hey Bird 🦅,
If you haven’t put the new exhaust on yet you can mark where the bolt will hit the exhaust, take a ball pien hammer 🔨 to that area and knock it in till it clears. Save your ears. Make the neighborhood happy and your bike run like it should. Should not effect flow to much or have to much restriction.

    • Bike N' Bird
      Bike N' Bird  Year ago

+Jamie Alexander no. It stuck out way too far, I would have had to pretty much close up the entire pipe. Not worth it. The other exhaust is already on order and now ill be able to sell or gift these slip ons in good condition

Hey bird...i have a 01 low rider with forwards. Do i need that linkage to make it adjustable? I tried once to adjust the shifter and it didnt move and i need it moved cause i have to move my foot up instead of just shift with my foot...if that makes sense

    • Bike N' Bird

Greetings from Italy Harley-friend. I didn’t see very well how much the muffler is in the way but if it’s not a lot try to beat a piece of tube on the back of the muffler in order to create some space, so you do not run like that. Just an idea, I love your bike can’t wait to see the new exhaust man.
