It shouldn't be called 4k ultrawide because "4K" refers to ~4,000 horizontal pixels... But this monitor has over 5,000.
To avoid confusion they should have called it "UHD ultrawide", as when people refer to "4k" they usually mean UHD.

It's nice; but I'll wait until the rest of the industry catches up with it with systems that can handle its best features.
Also, I still cannot justify a monitor that costs over $1000. Even with the site discount, it is out of my meager budget.
...and I'm still waiting to get a winning Powerball ticket... (NOT holding my breath, I'm still not convinced the games aren't rigged...)

I am confused. You seem to be saying certain Macs won't be able to use this and certain PCs as well ?
I am visually impaired and mostly wanting a very large widescreen monitor so I can see as much as the screen as possible and intend to buy all new Macs in 2020.
I may eventually buy one new PC as well in time.
i do You Tube videos and would love to use this as it would make my vision issues a lot easier.
Could you tell me what Macs ( or by year ) will work with this ?

Question for you. I like this for my video editing and plan on running it as 1 4K screen and the side panel driven separately. Building new rig. i7-8core, M.2, 2070 video card and 64GB ram. I also like gaming but not serious about gaming...more for business. Can I drive this as a 4K monitor at 60fps, use the intel I 7 GPU to drive the side screen so that the 2070 focuses only on the 4K portion of the screen?

Dang, I was thinking about getting one, but I have a 13" Macbook Pro 2016. You would think they'd design a monitor that can be driven by an Intel graphics chipset. It's unfortunate that Intel Graphics is still too far behind to drive anything meaningful. Thanks Linus for this informative video.

    um Linus 2 important questions
    1. what can you overclock this panel to at 2560 by 1080 ?
    2. If you use the PiP mode and set this up as 2 2560 by 1080 monitors using both the HDMI 2.0 ports . can you overclock it further ?
fun video ? interesting question ? if you answer it for me, me love you long time !

Glad to say I now have this monitor working at highest resolution ( 5120 x 2160 ) with no problems on 2016 MacBook Pro (it just works), 2017 MacBook Pro (it just works), and 2018 MacBook Pro. With the 2018 MacBook Pro it will work if you use Display Port, if use use an adapter to connect to USB-C. It will also work DIRECTLY to ThunderBolt-3 if you start the computer up with the monitor plugged in, then restart. When the keyboard lights go out, unplug the ThunderBolt cable from the MacBook Pro. When the Apple logo appears, plug the cable back into the computer, and it will work.
Use a a screen saver instead of putting the display to sleep. I have communicated all of this to Apple and they had me collect data from my computer while using the monitor so I anticipate a fix to make the connection work normally, probably in 10.14.2 or 10.14.3.
The monitor is fantastic. It provides me with the wide aspect ratio I've always wanted for the extra workspace, as well as sharp, sharp text!

In my opinion it depends on what the person is doing. Personally I prefer an Ultra-Wide 2560x1080p/3440x1440p. Also I'm more concerned about keeping my frame rates as consistent as possible when I game/stream. When I stream my live streams are at 1920x1080p60pfs. So long story short I tend to use Medium/High settings (depending on the game) and my only complaint is pairing a ECGA GTX 1060 SSC 6GB ACX 3.0 with my Threadripper 1950X, but when I finally got into the 10 series crypto-mining was all the craze. And now? RTX....ew.
