I would love to see your reaction to one of this film's actors, Troye Sivan's music videos, Blue Neighborhood Trilogy and Heaven. A TRUE insight to exactly what becomes of many in the LGBTQ+ community when they face this form of anguish in the Christian and/or family communities. Love is love, God is love.

Just found your review. Thanks for being an ally, and reviewing the trailer. I attend an LGBTQ+-friendly church, and a group of us are going to see the movie, once released, and - I think - meeting John Smid, former director of LIA, that night, who is friends with some men in my church. I am currently reading "Boy Erased," and wow, what a story! Only just started reading it a couple of days ago, but now I KNOW i need to finish reading it, before I go see the movie!!! I believe I will recommend it to a few people I know, won't say who here, however, some people I know who have/still are attending the kind of church represented by the boy's preacher-father's attitudes, just to let them see what is like on "the OTHER side"!!!

Looking forward to reading YOUR review of the movie, once you have actually seen the movie! By the way, did you ever see "Save Me," with Chad Allen and Judith Light? Somewhat along some of the same line of reasoning/showing both sides of the equation. I also find it somehow humorously ironic that Russell Crowe actually played a gay man in a movie called "The Sum of Us," so I know he'll be GREAT in this, as I dearly love his work.

I bought this movie when it came out on Blu-ray. It's absolutely a must watch. I love it. I'm the gay son of two Southern Baptist parents, and I also believe in God. It's too bad they would never watch something like this. They're so caught up in their own beliefs. I applaud you both for being so understanding and open minded. Much love to both of you.

This was one of my favorite movies of last year. I agree that this is the kind of movie this world needed, it shows that we don’t have to have the same religious beliefs in order to be a community. As someone who is not Christian or homosexual, your commentary was perfect, and luckily I grew up with a family who feel the same way you do. Thank you!

This film trailer hit me hard. I grew up in a fundamentalist evangelical background with strong Christian Nationalism and Christian Reconstructionism. Having worked with lesbians and having friends who are bi, this hits close to home and it tears me apart that these abusive "practices" are still legally permitted under the guise of religion. I can speak plenty on the harms religion can do to a person and I am still dealing with the damage after years of therapy. However, the levels of abuse levied against minors and adults in these programs is far beyond the suffering I have endured and puts me in tears. I sincerely hope that this film can help end this quackery and tears down the walls of these programs to prevent further harm to others.

If you enjoy Gay, Coming of Age videos and stories, you’ll want to read Cameron DeCessna’s latest book, Clay Parker: Growing Up Gay in 1953. It’s the story of a fourteen-year-old boy confused by his feelings, thoughts and dreams as he reaches adolescence and finds his sexual interests are for other teenage boys. But it's 1953, a time of conservatism and rigid family and moral values. To top off Clay's problems, he's an orphan forced to live with an abusive aunt and uncle who openly show their distaste for the lad who was severely burned when a house fire killed his mother, father and younger brother. They would be the last persons he could turn to, to help him cope with his alien feelings. This is the story of Clay's troubles, trials and final triumph as he strives to find a family who will love him after he is forced to run away from home after a severe beating by his drunken uncle. One part of the story deals with Clay's uncomfortable experiences listening to a sermon at his aunt and uncle's church. He discovers the real meaning behind the story of Sodom & Gomorrah and how it demonstrates the Bible's condemnation of being queer. The book contains graphic sexual descriptions that may not be suitable for children under 12, although it would be highly recommended reading for gay teens to raise their awareness of the struggles of adolescent gay boys in earlier times. Cameron DeCessna is a gay novelist best known for his Jordan Dare Trilogy, released in mid-summer of 2018 and available at Amazon Kindle Books. While the Jordan Dare series is written for all readers, 12 and up, and has no adult-only content, some of DeCessna's works are more suitable for adult readers. This novel, Clay Parker: Growing up Gay in 1953, is the first of several gay, coming-of-age stories the author plans to release in late 2018 and 2019. DeCessna, born in 1951, writes from personal experience and vividly captures the difficulties faced by gay adolescents during those times. Look for Cameron DeCessna’s books and visit his author’s page at Amazon/Kindle Publishing. Clay Parker, like Boy Erased, would make a wonderful motion picture.

It was a very good movie, explored shades of gray especially with Nicole Kidman's and Russell Crowe's characters. You can love your child and God. My daughter told me awhile back that she was gay. I didn't react too well at first, mainly because I didn't expect it, she didn't fit the stereotype. But I love my daughter and I love my faith, so I took her girlfriend along on family trips to Hawaii and Colorado so that I could show my acceptance of reality.

Thanks for your response and supporting this film! I went to see it with a friend this weekend, it was so hard to sit there and remained composed as I felt I was reliving my gay adolescence. Dad loved me, but my life was extremely altered by the fundamental damage induced though the legalize endorse by unfounded Christian dogma. There is much scholarship and even a book written titled: King James and the History of Homosexuality. (As you may know, King James was a raving gay and was also the commissioner of the first English translation of the Bible, which is still the most popular version today.) How much changed through the redrafting of the scriptures? More then enough to oppress way too many people! Hetropatriarchy has served colonial pursuits through social control mechanisms, and in turn, the family compact order reinforced homophobia. I am a survivor, but I live knowing that my life is affected by a mirage of unjust bigotry. Dad completed a second masters degree in theology after a PhD in Education, after which he taught in various seminaries. He was also a football coach and every bit a man's man. He broke me almost into the ground; yet when it was his turn to meet his maker, he passed through my embrace into Gods loving arms. I still have to live with homophobia in my family, not that I have much of one, due to differing practices and beliefs that further estrange. I am moving on and getting happy. Sending best and thank you for also moving towards the changes we all need!

You two are false teachers: Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, and 1 Timothy 1:8-11 are all *New Testament* passages denouncing homosexual behavior as sin, and Matthew 19:4-5 is Jesus reaffirming marriage as between one man and one woman (and the sexes as only male and female) from the Old. You can't cherry-pick the New Testament and be a Christian, because while some of the Old Testament laws are no longer relevant post Jesus, the New is what defines Christianity. Either take Christianity for what it is or leave it; don't sully it with blasphemy.

Just watched his reaction for the first time. I have noticed thumbnails before of y'all but was hesitant to watch or sub because I thought you were the type would be critical (stereotyped you wrongly because family channels sometimes to me could mean religious fanatics and not love fanatics). Glad I was proven wrong and subbed to your channel. Best of luck and even though we could have every spiritual gift and power under heaven, without love it all means nothing. :-) oh and P.S. The movie is based on a true story.
