Many call it the best X-Men movie, but Nostalgia Critic has some problems with it that a lot of people choose to ignore. Let's take a look at X2: X-Men United.

This has to be the most cynical Nostalgic Critic has ever been, this review is NITPICK OVERLOAD, the problem he have aren’t big problems and can be easily defensible or don’t matter, usually when he’s reviewing a good we all like he’s at least funny but I laughed very few times and the rest of the time he’s just being a asshole for no reason. So in my opinion this the worst Nostalgia Critic review ever

The "Should've killed me when you had the chance!" was actually appropriate. Magneto was persuaded to compromise Xavier's school which did put an entire campus of kids in legit danger. You seemed to have left that part out. Then you omit Cyclops actually doing well in a fight against Lady Deathstrike and the prison guards?!? This is pretty insulting and I'm not even 8 minutes in.

So - let me get this right -- you love the X-Men cartoon, apparently are aware there were comics that these movies were based on, but you never heard of "The Dark Phoenix Saga"?
Jean Grey's death -- and rebirth is a thing. Iceman can't freeze enough of the water - Prof. X is weak from breaking free from Stryker's kid -- and that's about it.
It's not hard to figure out.
Unless you're pretending to 'not get it'.
    Which would be dumb.

FFS. XAVIER DOES NOT HAVE TELEKINESIS!!!! How can you be a critic and not do the research!? He has in SOME story lines extremely low telekenetic powers. But in general, the vastly accepted power of Chuck do not include the ability to LIFT A PLANE WITH HIS MIND.

Doug you have nitpicking for this and I can understand some and hate others but here is the thing , the comics as you say was created to convey the message of racism, alienation, isolation, prejudice and many more that Stan Lee , Steve ditko wanted to tell children about how bad this was they found their best way at the time was comics . Comics like Video games were made for kids but as time went on many writers and artists started to take risks and wrote many controversial stories that many now consider classics. No matter how much you try the X men franchise tried to do something like Donner Superman or Burton Batman or Even Blade make comic book stories in a way adults will understand, MCU while takes a lot of risks it also plays very safe and is generally considered a crowd pleaser not risk takers and i can guarantee that the blade movie they are remaking but this time they will make it PG-13 to get more money from people instead of a bloody gory vampire killer story and they while make good movies they are not that much of risk storytellers every movie they make is essential for an advertising another movie . In the comics action was only secondary to the story not the other way around and the animated series perfectly captured that because the head encouraged to take risks and animation can do things that live action can't, I already know that i won't like MCU's version compare to this because hey are trying to diverse an already diverse team to do something i guess, any way your review is not good this time like the mummy 1999 , Van helsing, Event Horizon etc. you have to consider many things why people love these movies rather than say whatever you please; I know you have your opinion but you are reviewing movies that many people like and bad movies people hate but you try to act that people always agree with you it is not the case at all.

The best X-Men movie. It's still a terrible one.
Seriously, most of what Doug says is right.

    - Green screens are too obvious. Overall, the fx were so cheap, even back then! Only the Nightcrawler scenes are worth a damn, and Wolverine vs DeathStrike.
    - The characters are all so flat! That's what Doug meant about Pyro: sure, his changing sides does not come out of nowhere in the movie. BUT it's not developed at all, so in the end, it's just "he wants to change side, so he does". No development _at all_ here. The same for the so-called romances, all so empty and out of place. The same for Iceman's family, the same for Striker, the same for DeathStrike, the same for everyone actually.
    - I'm disappointed Doug didn't mention how one-dimensional Lady DeathStrike is, _even_ compared to the rest. She has ONE important scene, a short one, the rest of the time she just stands there doing absolutely nothing. It's like Darth Maul, without Darth Maul's charisma. Terrible, terrible character.
    - Overall the film is so slow it barely tells anything. And what it tells is so unstructured...
    - Cyclops' return to normal off-screen... it's just ridiculous. That, plus the fact that his battle with Jean is what causes the climax.
    - I forgot the enemies' HQ was actually where Logan was looking for in the beginning of the movie. Man, that was SO stupid!

I know it’s a cliché, but I actually think Magneto saying “You should of killed me when you had the chance!” Kinda works.
Most villains say it as a taunt, but I feel like Magneto genuinely means it. For all their differences, he would rather die then betray his friend. He’s not taunting Xavier, he’s speaking out of guilt/remorse.

Wait, Wolverine used one of his claws to start a car? Wouldn't that mean he had to keep his claw in the ignition the entire time he was driving? When you use a key to start on a vehicle the key has to remain in the ignition in order to keep it running so he was just sitting there with his hand stuck in that position the whole way or did he break part of his claw off... You know what? Whatever... I'm not exactly very knowledgeable about the X-Men or cars but I just thought the logic behind that scene was stupid and confusing.

I usually trust your judgement, it pretty much overlaps with mine and is usually quite fair. This is one of the only two times (the other being when you defended those unholy abominations that were the Spiderman movies with Andrew Garfield) where I think your personal taste got in the way of a fair review.
Clearly, you disliked the way they chose to go with this movie, i.e. dark, gritty, almost thriller-like. That's legit, but it shouldn't get in the way of an objective review.
I argue that there are few if any actual plot holes in this movie. There are a couple scenes that raise questions, but nothing that actually threatens suspension of disbelief on relevant plot points. Yeah, maybe Nightcrawler's mid-air rescue was far fetched... but come on, no relevant plot point hanged on that particular scene, and anyway, we know for a certainty that Nightcrawler *can* teleport without seeing his destination, he is just scared of doing so. It was just a scene someone thought was cool, it is hardly noted and quickly forgotten if you overall enjoyed the movie.
Jean's sacrifice... was it necessary? Ok, please, take note that the Marvel Universe's magic system (yes, mutant powers are basically magic) is very "soft". We are rarely given very precise details on the full range and potential and reach of their abilities. Maybe Jean needed closer contact with water in order to block such a huge mass *and* at the same time raising the plane in the air. Maybe Bobby's freexing powers weren't that strong either... But... seriously, should we be arguing about this? It's a frigging' superhero movie!
In parenthesis: I don't know whether mutants are persecuted outside of the USA too, but since they are an obvious metaphor for LGBTs... yeah, I guess in Saudi Arabia they'll be killed but the thousands after the events of the movie. But that's not the focus of this story; again, who cares?
And about the scenes with Xavier and Jason Stryker in the corridors... they are not supposed to be thrilling and exciting and full of action. They are supposed to be creepy and build tension. Also, it's not like controlling Xavier's mind is a piece of cake, Jason does that gradually by using his illusions. The movie lets us know how that works step by step. When I saw the movie I found those scenes very very creepy and tense.
Almost none of the criticisms raised in this review are more than simple nitpicking. Very disappointing. Ok, you liked the cartoon a lot.... this series was not like the cartoons. It took a different directions. You're free to hate it for that, but I think that if you know you can't be objective because you so disliked the very concept behind the movie, the safest choice is not to review it. There so many actual bad movies out there, no need to rage against a good one.
