Eating out at a restaurant is a great way to spend a couple of hours no matter what the occasion. Maybe it’s a birthday meal, or you’re catching up with an old friend, or perhaps you just can’t be bothered to cook. Whatever the reason, we all love going out for a meal at our favourite restaurant once in awhile. But these restaurants aren’t always what they seem, and while you’re enjoying your steak or pasta, there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that you’re not aware of. Today, we’re showing you 10 Biggest Secrets Restaurants Don't Want You To Know.
So, what secrets of the restaurant trade are we showing you today? We’ll be telling you why you should be avoiding ice, and why you should always buy the cheapest bottle of wine. You’ll be learning what the specials really mean, and how some of your unwanted ingredients can be repurposed into foods again a few days later. We’ll also be telling you just how music influences how you taste your food and whether you go again, and why you should never eat food that’s touched the menus or the tablecloth. If that wasn’t enough, we’ll also let you into a few secrets concerning the grill marks on meat and how to get optimum temperature fries.

I worked in restaurants for 4 years. They spend all of 10 seconds wiping down a table. Usually with a damp cloth that has not been sanitized. Their motto is "If it looks clean, it is clean".
Restaurant employees rarely wash their hands, and rarely sanitize cooking utensils. The same utensils that they used to cook breakfast at 6 am are still in use at Noon. And cooks usually clean the grill only once per shift.
Most restaurant food comes frozen. They can (and do) call it fresh if it's been thawed that day.
Many health code violations are from improper holding temperatures. Eggs left out next to the grill. Soup that sits out at room temperature (for hours), and microwaved just before serving so that it's hot when it reaches your table.
Garden fresh salad is often made in large batches, and stored in the walk-in for up to a week.
Many restaurants "wash" their dishes, glasses, and flatware in hydrochloric acid and very hot water. Then the "clean" dishes are handled by employees who haven't washed their hands.

“They usually leave lemon and lime slices without washing them.”
At least in Washington State, that’s a health code violation. That and not regularly washing hands.
