Do you agree with our list? Which of these animated movies seem the weirdest to you? Let us know below!

Does live action mixed with animation count. My answer is reanimated. It was a live action/animated movie that used to be on Cartoon Network. The movie even got it's own series called out of Jimmy's head.

O Menino e o Mundo is also an interesting and weirdly animated as well or it can be considered enchanting like Secret of Kells

Oh, we all agree wholeheartedly!! Because these are indeed the most creatively and vividly weird animated features of all time, and that's exactly why they deserve to be highly hyped, like this video (no pun intended. *puts video on "RU-clip Videos That Deserve Best", "The Stuff of Fucking Nightmares", "Gud4U" and "These Contain THICC Chicks category* )!!!!!

I just got done watching Consuming Spirits, and MY GOD! This is one of the most unique and odd films I've ever seen!

Fantastic Planet had a poignant story, it was far from irrelevant. It shows us how easy it is to judge someone as "other" and that we should always check that assumption and give people a chance. Other people aren't mindless animals, no matter how much we may disagree with them. We are all human beings and we should see each other as such.

Of all the movies on here, the only one I've seen (or desire to see) is Coraline. The rest suck.

    "Heavy Metal" was Canada's best.

I will agree that most of the movies on this list are weird. But the movies I don’t find weird (in my opinion) are “Coraline” and “Yellow Submarine”.

  • Kurt Ozinga

Gandahar is another great film from René Laloux, and I'd say just as weird as his Fantastic Planet.

I would say “Waltz with Bashir” or “Persepolis” but I guess they aren’t “weird” movie

  • Les Plus Belle Choses Dans Le Monde

Tale of Tales by Yuri Norstein should definitely be on the list.

  • Emily Daniels

What about the Thief and the Cobbler? Trippy movie for sure.

  • Sage Blackthorn

Time Masters (aka Les maîtres du temps) (1982)
Gandahar (a.k.a. "Lightyears") (1988), based on an Isaac Asimov story (Metal Men Against Gandahar)
Both films associated with René Laloux who also did Fantastic Planet from this list. Loved Fantastic Planet when I first saw it.
Even though these are all film, I feel you have to mention Peter Chung's original "Aeon Flux" animated series as being pretty weird. Actually, most anything shown on MTV's "Liquid TV" was pretty weird, "The Head" was pretty bizarre, "The Story Of The Brothers Grunt", "The Maxx". Night Flight's "Take Off To Animation" showed some pretty strange short films, like Jack Mack And Rad Boy. Loved all of those.
I did really like The Adventure's of Mark Twain, in Honorable Mentions
Of course for "Strange Animation" you'd have to do multiple videos on Strange Anime by itself, both films and series. I'm still not sure what Serial Experiments Lain was about after watching it multiple times. Segments of Robot Carnival like "Nightmare" were pretty surreal.

  • Adam Fromm

I'd love to add something by Jan Svankmajer (most likely Alice), although since his works tend to combine live action with the bananapants stop motion, it'd take some fudging to sneak it in.

Coraline doesn't deserve to be on here though. It's a beautiful family film.

not sure if MsMojo knew that Heavy Metal is a NC-17 anime movie with a *Lot* of Gore & a couple of Lewd scenes to boot which spawned a sequel that later got turned into a video game (which they toned down the Lewd scenes anyway) Wizards was normally gonna be a R rated anime cuz of how its creator *Sexualized* that girl fairy. o~o sooooo yeah wrap ur head around That Logic.

And Ms. Mojo continues her quest to obsessively post ONLY about Disney and Binge-TV--This week: Animated movies that looked creepy for not being Disney. ;)
And if we are talking weird/creepy animated movies, what are Raggedy Ann & Andy and The Thief & the Cobbler NOT doing on the list??

  • Nick Retzlaff
    Nick Retzlaff 17 days ago

I thought this was just going to be the “Weird for the sake of weird.” where there’s no purpose for the weird and isn’t trying to get a point across. I might look into these movies one day soon as well.

Hot take: Ms Mojo is completely pointless! Is this really for the female demo, like seriously what is the point. I'm not subscribed to Ms Mojo, I'm not against the idea either but 9 times out of 10 I find that if I browse Ms Mojo I find videos that are not specific to the women demographic! Do I have this all wrong?! I don't feel that I should have to subscribe to a channel that by the title is adomently not for me just to enjoy content that I appreciate. This video was great and now I want to watch all of these cause I love weird animation. But again why is the channel separate? Can anyone help?

You mention rotoscoping, but failed to give credit to Raph Bakshi when speaking on 'Wizards'. He's the Godfather of that technique in animated features, since we are talking about weird animated films. Pretty much all his films are, yet so good.
