The only problem I have with exaggerated boob plates is that if a sword came right on it on the higher end, it could be deflected straight into the neck.

"boob plate" armor is bad in general cause the space between the breasts can crush the breast bone/ sternum if person was to fall

  • Ryan McGechaen
    Ryan McGechaen 2 days ago

One of the major reasons why you would never have seen the separate breast cups would have been actual practicality. Having the armour meet in the middle in such a way creates a weak point - a strong enough impact with a blunt weapon could actually collapse the armour at that point and effectively crush the woman's breastbone.

I have a set of female armor with high tech helmet that has night vision ,heat vision , phone ,internet, camera, sound enhancers, vision enhancers, locking system and targeting software for the gun and the knee blades seem to scare men more then the gun even the other blades that would pierce anybody falling on me and do not really mention or show off the crotch blade and my new armor going to be a porcupine armor and is a experiment to see how many blades a suit of armor can extend and retract into a piece of armor.

The thin waist has always been appealing providing the illusion of a favored physique.
For men a narrow waist will broaden the shoulders and in some cases (depending on genetics/muscle insertions) will aid in earning the coveted v shaped torso...but that's usually developed lats.
For women a thin waist provides a more voluptuous physique.
Thin waists are obtainable through daily stomach vacuums which can be done anywhere, no equipment - a very natural simple exercise.

actually there is one thing that would need to be said about female armor, the chest part would be 1 single bulge and not 2, cuz with 2 its possible tor a weapon to get caught between them and more easly break or at the minimum, hit the person full force, with 1 bulge (like we see half the times), as you said for male armor, fuctions as a way for most incomming weapons to slide to the side safely

Okay, real women warriors existed in many cultures through ages - Scythes, Vikings, Japanese, etc. Still there are no archaeologic evidences of special women armour existence. I believe there were no specifically designed female armours except one case - those could probably existed for women gladiators of Rome, for crowd entertainment purpose.

Chicks could just wear gambeson +chain mail with a belt to bring in accentuation of the feminine shape, plus a helmet, Viking shield, with short sword.
Alternative weapon? Spear. Either would keep her safe and lethal.
Chainmail solves all the issues with anatomy challenges of plate armor on those wonderful curves,
and provides superior stamina, speed, and agility against plate. Chain plus gambeson is proven sufficient to stop most blade strikes any way.

  • AlmostOn TimeHero
    AlmostOn TimeHero 15 days ago

Boob plate armor, while impractical and bad for fighting, women are still women and they all want to stand out and attract men so thus boob plate armors. Totally believable because modern women wear boob plate armors.

    • Erin Anderson
      Erin Anderson 9 days ago

@AlmostOn TimeHero Actually, many women are required to wear makeup for work or other events because its socially expected of them, also the yoga pants and miniskirts are often for comfort not vanity, women don't appreciate being leered at for wearing stuff that makes them comfy. Also, showing ones boobs off wasn't a fashion or power statement at the time unlike codpeices.

    • AlmostOn TimeHero
      AlmostOn TimeHero 9 days ago

@Erin Anderson did you not see the large male cod pieces? Women are just as vain, they would totally do the female equivalent. No one asks or forces them to wear yoga pants, lip stick and mini skirts but they still do.

    • Erin Anderson
      Erin Anderson 9 days ago

I doubt that any woman serious about using armor to fight would wear boob plate stuff, girls only wear the boob plate stuff for cosplay or because they think it's a comfortable costume.

  • Felix Arthur
    Felix Arthur 15 days ago

I think that when the dome is just further up on the torso is fine, but when the individual boobs are emphasized it is no longer practical. If a sword strike were to come to one of the breasts, it could slide into the channel in the middle and get caught. Not only that, but I think that the depression between the boobs would dig in somewhat.

I believe practically speaking that women's armor would be different in some way to fantasy armor if it was made with present tasty & cultural norms because if it is too form fitting women wearing would not be able to take a deep breath so you need to have some cavities between the women's body & armor so she has the space to take a deep breath. Also with tough or intense physical activity you would need more oxygen to needs of your muscles... to preform to what is required of it but that would also depend on what kind of soldering a person was doing to imagine as to what is best for the individuals needs & the kind of role they played in battle.

  • MJ Holland

Female armor with a single bulge at breast height makes reasonable sense. Ones with individual breast bulges do not. Why? Because plate armor was worn over a hauberk of chain, which was generally worn over a thick cloth (often quilted) underlayer to keep the chain from slicing the chest up. Thus the definition required for individual breast bulges would be lost.

  • VonSchpam
    VonSchpam 23 days ago

Actually, I'd argue that you might not see armor designed for accentuating female features such as the bust line, even if they could. That's because an armors primary purpose is to protect the warrior inside and to that effect, the priority would be given to the best shapes and proportions that optimize the chances of survival. So, if the domed male breast plate is designed that way so that it increases the chance of lances and sword blows glancing off and away from the body, then adding extra shapes to accentuate the female form, you could actually compromise this benefit and make it harder to deflect blows, trapping them instead.

In Armored Tank Design, we would call this a "shot trap", where the shape of the armored hull works against the protection of the vehicle by deflecting incoming projectiles into vulnerable areas of the Tank. Such as a rounded Gun Mantlet that bounces shots downward into the hull and turret ring instead of safely away from it.

The added domes of the bust line might work against the armor like a shot trap, helping to guide blows into the center of the body.

Further more... despite the theoretical protection problems... Armor is expensive and time consuming to produce as it is. The more complicated and ornate the shape, the more time consuming and difficult it would be to produce. It wouldn't be economical as a practical application outside of ceremonial or decorative purposes to add a bustline to a breast plate, especially if the simpler shape was more effective protection in addition to being easier/cheaper to produce.

I always said that female armours would be `sexualised`, because male fashions in armour in reality were often `sexualised` if you want to use that term. Some male armours had nipples, so female ones (had they xisted) would too. Simple extrapolation and understanding history a little shows this.
