There are MANY inspiring people out there... they do inspiring talks, but talking the talk is relatively easy... walking the talk is harder... few actually inspire people to walk the talk... so little changes. Seth Godin is the exception to this rule... he is dangerously inspiring... governments need to worry about that... ... he walks the talk... and inspires others to walk. Period. Look what he inspired us to do in England. And what we're DOING. www.steamco.org.uk/artconnects

on't mean to go deep into the rabbit hole but makes me wonder if a lot these personalities are playing a character that they sell to the world... so that perhaps they become more relatable to the audience and therefore gain more popularity... When Mr. Godin said "do you think garyvee is like that all the time?" I thought yes! Yes, he is. He interrupts a lot and is questioning with high energy. But then he said gary is gary playing the ROLE of gary...

Thank You for posting! Ref: 30:31 Fun fact: satellites are rarely used by the public internet. As a percent of data transfer satellite traffic stays around 1%. But 1% of public internet traffic is huge! Fiber optic cables to the last mile, a house, is still rare. Basically, all public internet data traffic uses fiber for the majority of its travel. BTW, that is true for cellular data too. Cell towers pass and receive the data fiber (more below for tech info Cell Towers).
    Soft End.
Now for anyone still reading... And noticed I wrote 'public internet'...
The public Internet: That is because of our government, enterprise corporations, and specialty market businesses use the same infrastructure and protocols as the internet without them being apart of the internet. In a way, it's like private corporate jets. Privet corporate jets are not part of the public transportation system and they use the same airspace and infrastructure as airlines. Those non-public organizations generate a lot of traffic but not as much compared to RU-clip, Netflix, Facebook, Other Major Media services.
Cell Towers and the Internet: Fun Fact: Example: my daughter and I have the same cell carrier and smartphone. I'm upstairs and she is down in her room. WiFi is off and we are both connect to the same cell tower. If I send her internet data it will not go my cell tower her cell.
On my phone, I email my daughter a link to this post. My email will go to the local cell tower, into fiber cable to the provider's data-center (cloud) asks the servers for an address book that has my daughter's location then fibers back to the same cell tower and to her phone. If she had a different provider than me, it would be even more dispersed.
The last fun fact: The core "backbone" of the internet is built to easily survive a nuclear attack. The backbone is mostly fiber cables, connectors (switched), and computer servers/routers. So simplified, it looks like this [People|Stuff] ----Backbone---- [People|Stuff] except there could be hundreds of hardened [People|Stuff] connected to the multiple backbones. Now you know the "Internet" is *just the wires* that connect the computers. Like the power cord on an appliance. So, Google would be the appliance, what is behind the outlet would be the internet.
    Hard Ending, {TFL,DR} Aloha

Seth is spot on ... I have young children , I’m educating them to consider how they can create a market or niche , to think differently, because they will need that skill to be competitive . My older son is a genius , there will be a need for him, but no more are the traditional grow up , go to college and get a job . No , that doesn’t even work for my generation. People must pay attention. Teach our kids to be problem solvers. Look at the world and think out of the box and figure out how to become irreplaceable. If people pay attention to the world economy and industries and even if they think he is crazy , someone like , Elon Musk they will understand ... we must not only ourselves as parents , be competitive and be an example of business owners , creators , living self sustainably , independently and being leaders. We must lead and educate our kids and peers to adapt to a new economy. It’s already happening. Everyday you see examples of technology replacing humans. Thankyou Seth for confirming what I already knew. Your insight has empowered me as a creator and as a mother. I always say “I’m not rearing children , but leaders” my son yesterday went through all the kids he knew ( he is 10) of who had iPhones and iPads etc. he doesn’t have either. I am not worried about him having access to technology or learning to code that’s already happening. I told him , “yeah they might have these things but guess what ? You have something they don’t have per se, you have problem solving skills, creativity and ingenuity, these are things that you can’t develop when it’s done for you” I’m a redesign strategist , I’m ahead of time and trends always. I have always been this way. I grew up a creative and problem solver. My dream was always to go to an ice league college and business school. I agree with Seth , however , it’s not what’s essential. We need to create innovative organizations and people who create and idea tanks , anyone or any organization who does this will have a fighting chance at becoming sustainable in the future.

We don’t need mentors or heroes. We just need the people in place in our life that will listen to what we’ve learned and then give us a hug (or better) after we’ve told them. Then we act with joy and meaning. I think that’s easily proven science to find.

A lot of good bits, and advice. I do have an issue with 10:15 - When people in Seth's position don't share the impact of their teachings in his own family life, then he can come across as professing claims to the gullible. Like an overweight fitness trainer, or a divorced marriage counselor. Don't need to know the names of his wife and child, or intimate details, just how he's seen the impact of what he talks about has impacted his family. My 2 cents - still enjoyed the conversation overall.

The Futur or anyone else, if you’re looking for parenting advice that aligns with fostering creativity and nurturing them, but allowing our children to fail is Love & Logic by Charles Fay, Jim Fay, and Foster Kline. They have books, audio (my personal favorite) and classes available. I found many of their resources were free through my local library. One of the main tenets of Love & Logic is that we want to allow our children to fail as much as possible to learn life lessons early in life while the cost of failing is still affordable. We also give them the ability to solve their own problems with gentle guidance rather than swooping in and “helicopter parenting”.
Sorry if that’s OT but I kept thinking about the harmony between the ideas here and the parenting I use with my kids. Kids’ ability to solve their own problems and learn to fail with grace is truly fascinating.

We aren’t sure what he does. I tried to ask. Because I’m going through this myself.

I'm going to be honest here. I did not know who Seth was until now. I highly thank you for that Chris. This was the perfect podcast while working. However, I'll have to re-listen to it again because the content is strong.

I had no idea he had a new book out. I just ordered it. I don't care what it's about. I love all his books. Seth was the reason I got into reading books in the first place. My mindset changed once I read "Purple Cow". Seth has been my mentor for 5 years now, and he doesn't even know it.
It was really fun to watch Chris with Seth. Thanks for the video Chris.
