"A Crimson Man" by Mike Pappa
When 11-year-old runaway slave Wei Zhang finds Red -- a broken-down war robot -- he's terrified. But the unlikely pair quickly learn their only chance of survival is to work together to escape the brutal tyrants who've turned them each into slaves. More than that, they realize they've both lost everything to a conflict that wasn't their choice, and grow to depend on and even care for each other.

This was excellent! Atmosphere, character and set design, acting, cinematography, economy of storytelling. Just a wonderful and uplifting little piece that makes me wish it was a full ength movie. Nimble and original, it was obviously realized by artists, across the board! lw216316 I know what AI is - I was saying I don’t follow your comment. You said the film was not good adult sci-fi because the robot had true emotions /self aware but wasn’t artificial.

    • lw216316
      lw216316 23 days ago

@Mike Pappa its called ARTIFICIAL intelligence because its not real intelligence from a living being with self awareness, that can think logically for itself and make moral decisions - instead it has responses based on computer programming.

Good film! my only thought was at 11:12 it looked like you used the lord of the rings method(forget the actual name) of different actor distances to the camera to make actors appear bigger/smaller i think a normal focus would have done well, the boys head an neck and shoulders seemed oddly large to me but maybe i'm mistaken and its just how the shot turned out, overall enjoyed it! keep it up!

Even in such a brief time, I found myself caring about the boy AND the robot. So many brief films fall short in that area -- telling us enough to give us feelings about the characters. One of my oft-repeated complaints about dystopian stories of any length and in any medium is the utter and total dashing of hope. Bleakness and despair are NOT good closers. This one, however, presents a door opening for the protagonists, even as the two continue to sort out misgivings. The robot, at one point, mentioned that he had FEELINGS about something. And therein lies the greatest hope of all. Well done and very enjoyable short!

I just can't believe how good these films are...story ,cinematography ,sound everything excellent. I can't believe that the man who made this isn't a main stream big time director. I've paid big money at the theater and left feeling ripped off and here this is on you tube. Something isn't right in the business when films like this and actors like the little boy are not more well known. I mean a robot with ai and ptsd . kinda reminded me of iron giant one of my favorite movies. More power to all involved with these films.
