"A Crimson Man" by Mike Pappa
In a war-torn land of man vs. robot, a young runaway slave searching for his father must ally with a broken and battle-scarred war-robot or be hunted down by his brutal overseers.
When 11-year-old runaway slave Wei Zhang finds Red -- a broken-down war robot -- he's terrified. But the unlikely pair quickly learn their only chance of survival is to work together to escape the brutal tyrants who've turned them each into slaves. More than that, they realize they've both lost everything to a war that wasn't their choice, and grow to depend on and even care for each other.

The premise and the execution for this were pretty dang good. When's the full length feature film coming out?? It definitely deserves to be elaborated upon.
The robot actually reminds me of HK-47 (a combat droid in the Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic). He is a wisecracking and foulmouthed robot who hates humanity but ends up indebted to the player's character, so he ends up helping you complete missions and whatnot. If you decide to be morally good during the game (save peoples' lives, help them with their problems, solve issues diplomatically, etc...) you end up butting heads a bit with HK-47 during dialogue sequences, where he will quip at you and you have to keep him in check...
Not exactly the same character as in this short film, since this robot seems to actually care for humanity (or at the very least, the life of the boy), but the dynamic between the boy and the robot felt very natural. Their interactions are witty/humorous and touching, which end up endearing me to the characters and their situation.

This is the kind of work that could use more screen time to flesh out the characters' backstories. Obviously, we're meant to maintain those unanswered questions, but I think it would be a great premise for a short format serial.

This film short has a very particular appeal for me. In sci fi, my heart is always captured by depictions of little boys forming relationships with robots... like The Iron Giant and Lost in Space, of course. This take on the little boy and big robot theme is absolutely delightful and satisfying!! Thank you, Mike Pappa for making this. Very well done!

Nothing about this robot's design seems practical in anyway, and it sort of ruined the entire show for me.

    • Mike Pappa
      Mike Pappa 11 дней назад

+ƁᴇғᴏʀᴇƮʜᴇļɴᴛᴇʀɴᴇᴛ It's a bulky, tank like war robot. Of course I wish I could have had some of the things you listed -- but, it was not possible. Regardless, i think you might have missed my point about this being fantasy. Or maybe I just failed as you seemed more focused on these details rather than the story/characters. Probably the latter.

      ƁᴇғᴏʀᴇƮʜᴇļɴᴛᴇʀɴᴇᴛ 11 дней назад +1

+Mike Pappa Your "war" robot can't even swivel it's head, Mike. I get the aesthetic you were going for and i can appreciate the resourceful nature of your work, but such a limited range of body movement, slow movement speed, and small field of view would make it an easy target, not well suited for any sort of combat scenario. It was designed for combat, right?

    • Mike Pappa
      Mike Pappa 11 дней назад

ƁᴇғᴏʀᴇƮʜᴇļɴᴛᴇʀɴᴇᴛ nothing about this comment on a sci-fi, fantasy low budget short film seems practical in anyway.

Most intriguing. Not bad at all. So Crimson Man is a remnant military robot? Both main characters are very interesting in that they appear to have profound choices to make about who they are and what they stand for, particularly in relation to the struggle of trust and a building friendship between each other. That part of the story is a classic one and works really well here. I think there's great potential for this to be developed into a full length film.

+Mike Pappa; it's a reference to Japanese monster movies; nearly every one just HAS to have an adorable kid to capture the hearts of the kids in the audience. The very first one in the early Godzilla movies (if I remember correctly) was named "Kenny" and therefore everyone since is a "Kenny". See Brandon Tenold's channel for more mirth on this subject.

Great job, Mike. I hope you get to tell much more of this story. I'm curious to know more about these two characters and their world.

I got so sick of all the bs, repeat uploads, conspiracy and rubbish movies on youtube. So glad I found this channel today. Got some catching up to do here.

Third film watched tonight, and again a surprisingly good if strange storyline with a very clumsy looking robot with a heart!!! I enjoyed this too. More please.

Just stumbled upon Dust, thanks very much for videos. Always been the type of films I've enjoyed going back to release of 2001 space of yeast in '68 when my dad took me and my brothers. He's been gone 40years but man would he be blown away by the effects and graphics of today. Again thanks from a true science fan

"Do you happen to have steel wool with you?" I'm 27 and I've only run across steel wool like five times in my life. Does the kid have a fixation with polishing? Because other than starting fires, that is about its only other use.

Sc Py Wei was a slave that collects junk and parts in a war-torn landscape - it’s possible. It has many uses other than polishing. How many talking robots have you run across in 27 yrs?
