In the book when Harry is burying Dobby he does it naturally with no magic, which makes the mythical creatures see he respects them and pushes them to join the Battle of Hogwarts. In the movie he does the same thing but the creatures don't witness this and never join the fight, which was a tad disappointing.

The only thing I find worthwhile about the movies now, apart from kickstarting careers for some actors and a small handful of characters being done justice, is how the movies make it slightly easier to imagine what's going on when re-reading the books. Images on Pottermore handle the rest.

Book: The final battle between Harry and Voldemort takes place in the Great Hall with everyone watching and understanding; Harry is in complete control, full of confidence, wiser than Voldemort, and is master of the Elder Wand.
Movie: Harry only defeats Voldemort because Neville kills Nagini and his defeat of Voldemort is never explained...
The Harry Potter movies are problematic, to say the least. The books are WAY better!

  • Micah Heard

I've read every book twice, and watched every movie multiple times. The books do better in some ways, and the movies do better in other areas. But I honestly felt a more personal and fun experience in the movies.

Also, the scene in the "goblet of fire" where Ron and Harry are in the common room arguing (ron jealous of Harry getting in the Triwizard tournament) and Harry throws the S.P.E.W badge at Ron and it hits Ron in the forehead and Harry says "there, if you're lucky it might leave a scar" lmao.

7:03 OK I LOVE this scene and will fight anyone who says that it is unnecessary. Also a slight side tangent, before I was introduced to the wizzarding world and I saw that scene with no other context, I thought that Harry and Hermione were a couple and was laughed at by my two friends who are potterheads.

Well....movies are NEVER as good as the books. They change, leave out, cut short things to make it fit into two hours. Our imaginations are a million times bigger than the capabilities of a movie. That’s why it’s just entertainment but the books become part of who u are as a person.

Of course the books are different from the movies. The books are limitless in their description of characters etc. Movies can only fit in so much. Even celebrated films like the Lord of the rings trilogy had to cut out certain characters.

By far the most disappointing change in the movies was the show down between Harry and Voldemort: the lack of big reveal in the Great Hall in front of EVERYONE that Draco was the one who won the Elder wand from Dumbledore (not Snape). And then Harry won it from Draco, meaning Voldemort was trying to wield a wand against it's own master.
