DipIt #17: Blue Jean Pocket Watch

  • Taking a suggestion from a Facebook visitor, I decided to take a crack at a Blue Jean Pocket watch. Denim Micarta is a fun material to work with and super easy to make!
In the end, my blank was much larger than needed. Still with only a handful of denim squares and about 5oz of resin this was a very inexpensive project. Even with the larger than need blank!

Love this one, Peter! After seeing how small it became, I was thinking a small plastic butter tub or cream cheese tub would have yielded a just about right starting size for the blank. Save a bunch of resin. I don't know how you can stand the shavings sticking to everything. That drove me crazy!

You should make some sort of design out of resin and send it to water jet channel so they can cut it up.

Oh gosh. I just had a thought. What if you made a compact mirror out of makeup? Like eyeshadow? You've already used it as a resin dye, but dipping a neat-looking pan of it in resin might look super cool :3

I think your going to have delamination problems, I dont think you should spray a release agent on the surface of the material your putting in epoxy

Hey P😎. I'm new to your page. I think that your creative and artistic. How did you come up with these projects? Where do you get your resin and epoxies? And what do you do with cups that you use(measuring cups) when you are finish pouring. Can reuse the cups or do you just through them out? Where can you get on the cheap?
Hit me up sometime cause what you do is very inspiring. That I am possibly can do this cause I'm disabled.
p.s. keep up the good work and videos 👌 I really enjoy them.
    Thanks 😎

Cool project. If you make another one, use the actual watch pocket from the pants, including rivets if possible, as the final layer. Keep that side as untouched as possible when turning, and use it as the back of the watch. It would also work as the overall shape of watch, cut out instead of turned. Another one to add to my list of gonna-makes. Thanks.
