  • CES 2019 was full of laptops, everything from GeForce RTX-equipped thin gaming laptops to AMD-powered Chromebooks to desktop replacements with swappable CPUs. A lot looked like last year’s bunch, but there were more than a few interesting exceptions. To cut through the deluge of announcements, we’ve rounded up what we think are the best laptops from CES so you can get a look at the tech that’s arriving this year.

Huge disagree on the CPU part. *There is innovation happening.*
AMD is releasing their Ryzen ZEn 2 CPUs for laptops soonish.
ARM will catch up sometimes in the future too, but AMD is really cornering the FPS per watt market. And it's awesome for the lower prices !

there's not a huge update, because there's not much you can do with laptops anymore!?? lol with just like phones are you do is make it a better screen and a better camera? I mean what else you could do anymore now if you do anymore it's going to like disappear into thin air!? Lol because how thin there getting every year? I mean if you were smart company just give him a little bit every year cuz they didn't give him a big prize then you have nothing for next year?

When are we getting 32gb ram in a ultraportable? All the manufactures max out at 16gb and that's been the case for last 5 years.

hope dell xps implement 16:10 or 3:2 screen ration on their 13 or 15 with a screen that has capability more than 60hz such as 75, 90 or even 120hz. Also, might be good if they include one more usb either type c or type a. that would be a great improvement..

Why would anyone expect a huge update. Perhaps you’re expecting a floating laptop, or one that opens the lid automatically. There is really only so much you can do. It’s not a problem, is it?

  • Sam Omar

If you're talking about processor updates why bother and wait for Intel? Intel are just crawling their way slowly with just concepts of 10Nm and whatnots. There's the Ryzen processors. Problem is vendors are slow at adopting it or adopting it the wrong way by under-powering its power-supply. The 9th Generation are just the same previous architecture running at higher clockspeed. Nothing new there. Ryzen is new. Wake up vendors!

Am I the only one hoping that the next trend/breakthrough will be everyone copying the surface book design philosophy? Stick all the internals in the screen, put a massive battery in the keyboard, and add an external GPU (in the keyboard also) for the high end models. When 13" tablets start weighing a pound or less, that will be the next logical step.

    Speed.
    Memory
    Storage.
    Ports.
    Connectivity.
    Display.
Literally all that really needs improving anymore. Eventually all laptops as standard will be edge to edge display, all will be tablet convertibles, and that's probably about it. The next *big breakthrough* for laptops will be a god damn webcam that's actually remotely good.

My favorite this year is the Asus mothership. A perfect combination of All-in-one and laptop. A detachable keyboard opens up to better position for the user, thus a stand-up design is the optimal cooling solution for the machine and not letting the heat touches its user.

I am not so happy with the offers. They produce too much in the extremes. Supercheap, superlight, super powerful, you name it. I am looking for an upper midrange working notebook with 17.3“ 4k Display, GTX1050 or GTX1060, 32GB RAM, 2 NVM SSD harddrives and 2 thunderbolt ports. Very difficult to find.

You didnt bring up the lg gram 17, yeah its not the most powerful nor the flashiest laptop but its the only one of its kind. Its the only 17 inch laptop on the market that is in a 15.6 inch form factor and has 19 hours of battery (Im sure lg exaggerated but im also expecting 10 hours to be the normal) and for a 17 inch laptop that is incredible. Not to mention that its the lightest too being even lighter than a 13" macbook pro.
I definately plan to buy it when it comes out next month.
Also why are you hating on all of these laptops, all of them are incredible.
