Traditional Armenian Folk Music

  • Published on Apr 3, 2017
  • The music of Armenia has its origins in the Armenian Highlands, where people traditionally sang popular folk songs. Armenians have had a long tradition of folk music from the antiquity. Under Soviet leadership, Armenian folk music was taught in state-sponsored conservatoires. Instruments played include qamancha (similar to violin), kanun (dulcimer), dhol (double-headed hand drum), oud (lute), duduk, zurna, blul (ney), shvi and to a lesser degree saz. Other instruments are often used such as violin and clarinet. The duduk is Armenia's national instrument.

    Respect from Georgia.

Whenever I listen to any Armenian song, it clearly has a great influence by Turkish music.
And I can not see any influence from Caucasian type of music and rhytm. It does not sound as Caucasian music at all.

Well, this is gusan/ashugh music, most of ashugic culture is borrowed from 17-18 centuries, when Armenia was under influence of Persian empire. If you listen to other Armenian folk music (not ashughic/gusanakan), they don't sound such middle eastern, but more south Caucasian, this one for example.

You have it the other way around George.. What is "Turkish" music? Simply music that is copied, barrowed, taken, or stolen from Armenian, Persian, Syrian, Greek among others. Kind of how Georgian Churches were influenced by Armenian or even how Georgia's first alphabet was basically an exact copy of Armenian hence why you changed it to make it look different. To bad it now looks like spaghetti.. If you really had respect, you would talk about how much Armenia has contributed to Georgian culture and not distance yourself from them.

I am an unknown composer living in Melbourne and wish to say I like this music very much. In fact, yesterday I wrote a piece of music entitled AN ARMENIAN ROMANCE in 34 bars, key of G, 2/4, 80 BPM, played on violin which I showed to my violinist-friends. This is a new discovery for me! Thanks

Sayat Nova, he wrote songs at a time, where armenians, kurds, greeks, georgians, azeris, persians and turks were brothers. Now they hate each other, and everyone means, that his music and poesy just comes from their own country. But in reality, he wrote songs for every nation, in nearly every language in this beautiful territory. I think, he would hate as it is today. He would hate that those people hate each other. I hope, my message is understandable. I wish peace and love, for every of these countries, with one great and nearly common music culture! - A in Norway living eastern-german with long roots both in the eastern Balkans and the Middle East.

I do believe in nations have influenced each other in the past but to be honest there is nothing Turk about Turkey. I know a lot about Turkish culture it's really a mix of every nation around Turkey dances, tunes, food etc.. I don't disagree that their isn't anything from the Turks who came to Anatolia. Trans-caucasian people and the Greeks have lived in Anatolia before the arrival of the Seljuks. Respect to all cultures and nations. I love listening from everyone.

Anybody that says this is Turkish should first do a search for "Central Asian Turkic Music" right here on RU-clip and get acquainted with real Turkish music. This is native music from Armenian Highlands and Trans-Caucasus Mountains which has been dominated by Armenians for three millenniums.

Just found your channel and I'm glad I did. There will be lots of peaceful and divers music I can listen too:)
I have a question: Do you put any thoughts in whether the music you upload is in 440hz or 432hz? I have recently found out that it can be quite pleasing to retune the music in 432hz. Although it is better to have original 432hz recording than using a program to change the pitch to 432 from 440, it can still feel more soothing than the 440 variant. Don't know if it will work for all music, but maybe you find it interesting.
