Kinda seems like no one noticed that a Michael Vick supporter is being handed puppies...
Call me crazy buuuuut... Don't ever touch an animal if u think someone was justified in torturing and murdering animals... Right? That was her public stance. Keep her away from dogs, at least publicly. Not a difficult task.

I mean, honestly, the point of this isn't to get the dogs adopted, it's to have a feel good segment and puppies are cuter than older dogs, so that's why they're there. It's shitty, but true.

    ASPCA & Bestiality/Zoo Brothel
I was a member of the ASPCA until I entered puberty. And then I quit, cuz my parents let me.
I don't really know anything about the ASPCA even though I do remember something happening when I was around ten.
So the ASPCA was a mystery to me, accept for their ads for dog & cat abuse on the TV. I finally got to talk very candidly with a spokesperson for the ASPCA & a family friend.
So what is the ASPCA? What R U guys & gals all about?
OK he said: the ASPCA is a powerful & influential national organization dedicated to having sex with animals. We are into expressing carnal love for animals. We're in favor of inter-species marriage. To put it quite frankly, we are in favor of world wide bestiality.
Of course. I thought everybody knew that?
Well I thought the American Society to Prevent Cruelty to Animals was to prevent cruelty to animals.
Of course we are not cruel to the animals we 'ph'k! Mostly we ph'k dogs & cats but each of our ph'kings... red rockets... etc is done using Crisco. Every animal shelter has tons of the stuff.
But Crisco is a shortening, I exclaimed.
Suddenly the ASPCA'S spokesperson's face went blank & he discontinued our interaction.
Later it was revealed in the press that male animal caretakers at the ASPCA had been having sex with animals & using Crisco as a lubricant and all of their penises were reduced in size.
They all felt it was a punishment from God for ph'king animals but then they remembered, there is no God!

Question: Who's to say these new "adoption" centers aren't really just the puppy mills of the 80's-90's? I mean the pet shops in the malls closed as puppy mills were a controversial story being investigated. Now all of a sudden they are supposedly gone? I would think they'd just change to a non profit "adoption" agency, not have to pay mall store front prices (heck malls are dead anyway now) and avoid taxes, all while drawing from sympathy from the masses. Don't get me wrong. By all means, give these puppies a home... but investigate the origins of these agencies and how, and from whom, they obtain these puppies.

  • Hair8Metal8Karen

They use puppies because it's less of a risk and the puppies are still in their socialization period so they need to be exposed to new, positive environments.
Older dogs have more anxieties and can be reactive when stressed (say by being in front of an audience with massive lights and cameras on them). Puppies are still developing and love new people, plus they are smaller so they can fit in the play pens without having to fight over space.
I'm also going to say that puppies are more at risk of diseases in shelters so it's really important they find a home quickly (preferably during the critical socialization period before any behavioural issues take hold).

People complaining that the show isn't using older dogs to attract potential adoptees are totally contradicting the whole good intention that comes with adoption in the first place. The show has 2 minutes to appease to an entire country with comedy. Take a break, get off your soapbox, and appreciate that dogs are being adopted in the first place. Not to mention there is a link to visit the shelter's site where (hopefully) older dogs are also featured so that people can make their own choices.

North Shore is the biggest no-kill shelter in the world. Yes, it's so important to adopt senior dogs. However, North Shore receives a LOT of young puppies from out-of-state, and it's really important to get all these babies out to make room for all the other babies that are already on their way. I think if it were any other shelter, I'd be critical of the puppies-only segment. But having been to North Shore a few times to adopt, and seeing all the small puppies they have, I completely understand.

Puppies will get adopted one way or another, because they are little, cute and at the beginning of their life everybody can educate them in their own way. So perfect for someone who want to sepnd most of the dogs life with it, but older dogs need a home and someone who loves them, too. Unfortunanetly many people are afraid that an older dog will have habbits they can't change anymore, or a bad past or simply that they will get only sick and die in a short time.
So I would love it, when Steven could help those dogs, too.

Everytime SC does this segment, I feel I have to remind him that adorable little puppies don't need help getting adopted, and that animal shelters all across the country are full of adult pit bull mixes, most of which are destined for the headsman's block.

    • Na M
      Na M 6 months ago

@Kasha Bee Most people aren't actively breeding pit bulls, but pit bull owners can be incredibly irresponsible. They don't get their dogs fixed, and they walk them without leashes around smaller dogs and young children. Almost every Judge Judy episode involving a dog attack includes a pit bull and a really really stupid pit bull owner.
