Newly available in the range topping , this 3rd generation shares its platform with the redesigned , , and . It comes standard with the i-Force MAX hybrid powertrain and will go on sale this summer.

We never thought we'd see the day! But its here... Toyota has finally redesigned their gentle giant Sequoia after 15 long years! It looks fantastic in-person and we can't wait to get behind the wheel. We do want to notate one thing, this generation ditches the independent rear suspension from the 2nd generation, it has the same coil spring live axle setup as the Tundra with the rear air suspension. That did raise the 3rd row seat up a bit and the hybrid battery pack lives under the floor. From the video, we thought the 3rd row was still very usable for an average size adult. Toyota will announce more detailed specs and pricing at a later date!

@brian menezes , Alex and Sofyan are great buddies. You've got to check out several Redline videos where he (Alex Auto) actually co-reviewed with Sofyan (Redline). Also, you might want to take note of the fact that Alex Auto and Redline Reviews roll out the same review videos within hours of each other; this is definitely not coincidental. That's how close they really are. By the way, the reviews by these two guys are top notch.
Soyfan has always been like this. He give zero shits and just takes care of business and lets his microphone isolate him from all the background noise. Just wish he would learn how to use shutter priority on the cam to get rid of all the flickering LEDs on these cars :-)

The TRD version looks amazing, I’d rather get this than the new LX if I were shopping for a full size SUV. I think the rear would look better without the Sequoia spelled out like that, I imagine a lot of people will have that removed.
The LX isn't really a full size SUV anymore by today's SUV standard by keeping around the same size as the previous gen. Even the last gen isn't that big back then. The only "big" thing it has is weight. Some midsize SUVs are bigger than the LX dimension wise. If space is your top concern, then the Sequoia is the top choice from Toyota. Even the Sequoia isn't among the biggest in the full size category.
it reminds me of 90s to 2000s japanese luxury cars, like the TL that has Acura spelled out, or the 2005-12 Avalon that has Avalon spelled out. The Legend has “Legend” spelled out
I totally agree get rid of the emblem off the back. It's like when you pull up to a stoplight you want people to wonder what type of truck that is.

I find this car to be more impressive than the LX. Standard hybrid powertrain, a better looking interior/infotainment, larger vehicle (I think), and the exterior design stands out. The LX looks like a previous gen vehicle. The last gen LX looks just ask good, if not better on the inside atleast.

The LX isn't actually full size anymore in today's standard. Some midsize is bigger than the LX in terms of dimensions.
The Sequoia should be Lexus's LX (with additional features), especially when Lexus doesn't really have a full size SUV in their lineup. I don't think many people would take their LX for serious off roading. If you want space and off roading is not the main concern, this sequoia is such a no brainer, especially with the price difference fully loaded.
@HellKitty 101 The 130K LX is terrible in my opinion. Especially because they ONLY offer it in black in America. I could get a similar feel in my all black interior Santa Fe calligraphy lol.
The LX doesnt even offer a panoramic roof even at its top model of around 120k which is sad for that price point while the toyota does...
Same. Even the $130K "super" LX is just ok to me. I'd pay the $80K for a loaded up Sequoia if the values still holds like the previous generation.

Love the new Sequoia but considering the price of the current one, I doubt I'll ever be able to afford one in the next 5 years . At least until the used one start popping up

When the GM SUVs had a live rear, all people could say was “3rd row so cramped. Knees to the ceiling. No space.”
Toyota goes back to live rear with same 3rd row issues:”I can sit very comfortably back here.” As his knees point to the sky.
Sigh.
Bingo. We had a 2019 Tahoe and the 3rd row SUCKED with knees up to sky. We were awaiting this new Sequioa and will have to pass , no way our family goes back to our Tahoe days. Unfortunate as everything else is so nice on his new Sequoia.
The way the camera man pans the camera to fit you and the car in the shot while you’re talking about it is super satisfying. Well done guys!
I think they did a really nice job with this redesign, it looks really good and the interior is nice, not too worried about the suspension change because the Tundra rides really well without IFS in the rear and even better with the optional air suspension
I love that Capstone and TRD model!! I wish they went with the independent rear suspension. I'm sure it's coming in the future, though. We'll probably even get an L or XL model also.

I think it would look really nice if they replaced the black portion of headrest with woodgrain like is on the console, I think it would make the interior much more luxurious. Aluminum could also look nice. I love the new the new design inside and out!
This does not have an independent rear suspension like the previous Generation Sequoia. All of the other full size SUVs now have fully independent rear suspension. This will eat into rear 3rd row and rear cargo volume. It has a live rear axle with multilink coil or air suspension.

About time Toyota added some up to date interiors. So glad they’re actually putting effort into their products and not trying to sell off some 20 year old product because it’s reliable

Reasons to get the Sequoia over the Lexus LX:
1. Pano-roof option
2. Hybrid powertrain standard
3. Rear locker option (If you aren't bringing the Land Cruiser, make sure the LX offers that off road ability)

Missed 2 important reasons (and they are not even about opinion such as looks):
1. Way cheaper (Not just price, but also cost of ownship)
2. Much more space
Really impressed with the new styling.. definitely a good product coming to the market!
I love the exterior of the TRD pro, but I also love the interior of the Capstone. Does the TRD Pro also have those LED strips through the dash, center console, and doors or are those limited to the capstone?
A few downfalls but overall an awesome new SUV with lots of power and hauling ability! Love the TRD Pro styling

The roll down rear window has proven to be a problem in the current generation.

There's a lot to like but I'm disappointed by the solid rear axle and the 3rd row / shelf setup. Feels like we're going backwards with that.
The rear window & wiper design is a bummer too. Roll-down window + spoiler-concealed wiper would be superior.
My favorite things are the toned-down front-end styling relative to the Tundra, and the expected performance figures of the hybrid system.
V8 option would be nice still. Complex turbo-hybrid powerplant will detract from longevity and reliability. And add to both purchase and repair price. Looks very decent though. I'd even go as far as saying it looks best in segment. Well.. at least to me :).
@And_555 Another red flag is that Toyota doesn't really have a good experience producing forced induction powerplant outside of diesel world. I'd be more confident if it was 4.6l V8 coupled with electric motor. Direct injection diesel is a recipe for disaster. Since turbo engine run rich. And I guess that's why it's a "twin" turbo, it will foul valves at low RPM and render engine inop in under 100K miles. My only hope that those Toyota engineers know more then me and not just want to use me as a beta tester. I had enough of that with 4.7 4runner.

Absolutely loving the look. I am tired of round shaped SUVs and I like the slightly boxy look. I think it looks like a beefier Rav4, which is not a bad thing because current Rav4 design is nice. I was thinking of getting the LX however after looking at the cargo space behind 3rd row, thats a no for me.
Also dude, you are awesome with the presentation. I can imagine how hectic it is to cover all the stuff with people trying to budge in (love Alex though) but you kept going without failure. Awesome stuff.

Finally a Toyota that looks good, worth considering after much needed redesign and upgraded gadgets and powertrain.

Love the reviews. I just got a an oculus quest 2. I think it would be great to add some 360 degree videos so I can sit in the driver's seat and others and really feel like I am inside the vehicles. Also some exterior 360 would be great too.

Thank you for this awesome quick first look. I have a rather large family and I think I might have found the right SUV to fit them in.
Beautiful vehicle. The biggest issue is the cargo area behind the third row. That is absolutely terrible! Imagine loading a couch or something heavy. The load height is way too high! Ridiculous! And you can barely fit anything back there with the third row up. Really disappointed in that regard and considering this will be an expensive vehicle.

This is EXACTLY what the Lexus LX600 should of been! ... Range Rover and all the other guys went all out ... Toyota/Lexus literally gave us a wrapped up face-lift... on the topic of reliability/durability Toyota/Lexus is not to be doubted but right now we need them to be fearless

Looks nice and I would consider one, except that craziness going on with the third row shelf system would rule this SUV out for me. I would prefer to not have the third row and have one large cargo area. The shelf seems flimsy and frankly an afterthought to deal with the batteries under the third row seat? Look at the height of the shelf when used to make a flat cargo area even with the folded down third row. I can't see my 5ft 2inch wife getting anything heavy in and out with it being the height of her chest. I was thinking about my dogs too. I don't see how that would work either.

@Jacob Rael the sequoia has the hybrid engine as standard, while you have to go Limited or higher to get it in the tundra. More power and torque for cheaper, and then there's the design. The new front end looks better here than on the Tundra, because it's shorter in height here.

They messed up with the third row. I would buy tomorrow it it was as spacious as the tahoe. But it’s a beast of a machine.
Why did they get rid of the center console in the second row of the top trim? That was my favorite feature in my moms platinum. You could fold the lid forward and use it as a table and it had tons of storage / arm room.

Biggest glow up ever for the sequoia
Loving this large SUV. Toyota really upping their game here.
Can't wait to see how much the dealers will mark these up above the MSRP. Let the games begin! If you see any of these on the road in the next few years, you can properly assume that the driver has more dollars than sense.
Only problem with the sliding third row is that you can see at 6:41 is that the seat will not be even with the cargo area floor, despite it being adjustable.
Sad how the new sequoia lost the side pillars on back and the squared taillights now it has those crossover like taillights and lost the back window that rolls down, hopefully the 4runner doesn’t loose this

My only issue is it looks like the floor isnt flat. That the seats stick up above the floor by about 6 or more inches. Personally I hope they offer a version without the 3rd row.....or allow for the third row to be easily removed.

@Carbrickscity We doing 10k over on the Tundras at the moment, cars like Corollas we doing 3-5k over ! But ion see doing 20k over on any car ! Rather it’s 80k or not !
10k over for which car...I may understand for a 80k (fully loaded) car like this. But definitely not 10k over a Corolla or something. Couldn't even begin to imagine 20k over any Toyota car lol

Weird that the Sequoia has the full digital instrument cluster, pano roof, and hybrid powertrain not found in the much more expensive Lexus LX 😅
Great looking car, 3rd row would give me a cramp, but overall great look. They should change the rear lights tho as it favors a Durango a bit too much.
Honestly they should've found a way to keep the roll down rear window as that was such a signature feature compared to the Tahoe and it's siblings who have a flip up window. Overall however, it's an absolutely beautiful hulking SUV design that puts respect on the Sequoia name!
Great to see the actual truck compared to just factory pictures/vids, honestly this looks better than both the Lexus LX600 and the current Land Cruiser.! It has a modern but Toyota classic look. The new land cruiser grill looks kinda odd.

I feel like the panoramic sunroof is taken from the tundra and they didn’t make it larger for the sequoia so they could share more parts with the tundra.

I'm thinking to myself what took Toyota so long this is absolutely beautiful it's great I'm hoping that is longer than 205 in because at-205 in that makes us the same length as the Jeep Grand Cherokee L and I think if you really want to go up against General Motors the big boys of Ford and the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer you got to go big
It doesn’t go up against the others. Grand Cherokee L Tahoe expedition wagoneer all beat it in space, suspension, interior and luxury.

Damn awesome exterior. I really wished they hadn't redesigned the third row seat to shove your knees into your chest though. 10:10 that's just a sad position. Missed opportunity.

Obviously this is a huge improvement and a very nice SUV. I don't think it can compete with the Expedition and Tahoe if you want more room. The third row looks very tight compared the the Expedition, so does the second row. I think if people are looking to go big, they will pass on this.

Beautiful vehicle but why did you not show us under the rear at the suspension for this vehicle. If Toyota wishes to remain relevant as GM, Chevy and Chrysler have all gone to IRS I would assume they would do the same. This would greatly increase 3rd row leg room considering how high your knees were when seated back there.
