It's the price for the new bike and one of the best equipped models. Of course those can't be given away for free but compared to some other options, 18k is not that bad (also there is an option of getting a used bike, of course).

To me, a cruiser has feet forward foot pegs to lower the seat and for looks. The Harley Softail was the first in 1986, to look like their famous 1936 Knucklehead with no back shocks. My cruiser is a 2002 Honda Shadow 600cc VLX that I bought new for $5,100- fun to ride, 60 miles per gallon stock, low insurance cost, known for going well over 100,000 miles before the junkyard, and a 4-speed transmission like the 1936 Knucklehead. Drawbacks are a lot of engine vibration above 60 mph, the stock seat is not comfortable, and the clutch takes some time to get used to for not stalling the engine from stoplights at low rpm to less abuse the clutch. I also have a smoother, more powerful inline 4 sportbike, and if I was going to buy new it would likely be a Yamaha MT-07 or Tracer 900 standard, or maybe a 500cc Honda standard, or Indian Scout Sixty cruiser for a lot more weight.

If your physical strength allows you to handle a machine like this and you spend a considerate amount of time practicing or probably working with an instructor, then it might work out for you. Still it would be nice to talk it over with your instructor. It's never a good idea to underestimate a machine. Especially for a first-time rider.

Surprised that a Suzuki C50 boulevard wasn’t mentioned. A brand new one is only $8250 before tax. The bike is shaft driven so less maintenance work. Sure it’s not as fast compared to chain or belt driven, but it is a nice bike. For the cost, I’m surprised it wasn’t mentioned. As long as you maintain your vehicle and do it correctly, it still doesn’t matter which brand you get. Sure there are those weird moments that a vehicle randomly acts up, but it’s man made and isn’t suppose to last forever. If something is acting up, look it up on videos so you don’t have to spend an arm or leg at a dealership. Motorcycles are not that difficult to work on, but rather fun.

Yes, I found it interesting. I got back into riding a little less than 2 years ago after a long hiatus. Not wanting to start back too large at my age I considered the Rebel 500, but decided to go very retro and all the way back to my BSA roots and get the Suzuki S40 (Savage). I really like it. It is everything my BSA lightning wasn't - Primarily reliable. As in it starts every time and the lights stay lit. LOL. And little compares to the large displacement thumper for fun.
For your narration, Your accent is insignificant and your enunciation is good. But my suggestion is to vary your cadence and volume a little, be a little (not a lot) more emotional. My suggestion, not criticism.

    • kybourbonboy

Sorry you are offended. No, your accent is not what gave me that impression. I didn't notice a particular accent. It was your speaking cadence and speaking mannerisms. Sorry again, but those things give your narration a rather robot like sound. Nothing personal. I listened to the video again and still get the same impression. If you want to attribute it to my perception, that's fine.

    • Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews

Hi there. Since you are new to motorcycling, I would say you shouldn't be looking in the direction of these two. Price is the major concern, plus the engines are overpowered. I would suggest more humble variants like Honda Rebel 500, Kawasaki Vulcan or Yamaha Bolt, and buy them used to save money and get more familiar with the Moto world. However, prior to buying the first bike, I strongly urge you to attend the motorcycling school and master to perfection small 125 cc bikes. Hope this helps

Yes! I own one, and the stock seat was good for short rides, but after 30 minutes on the bike, it was uncomfortable... so I changed it for Harley's dual Sundowner and the problem is gone :) I've also read that Saddlemen seats are a great replacement option. I don't think that this is a big problem, because most riders also change their seats because of aesthetics, so a great percentage of Street Bob owners would change their seats anyway.
On the other side, there is a small group of people that have no complaints on this issue.

The real advantage harley has over most other brands is their service dept. Not that their mechanics are overly better or cheaper. But in that it doesnt matter what year harley you own they will wrench on it. Honda wont touch anything older than 97-99 depending on the dealership. This means that unlike harley if your not mechanically proficient and dont have a full set of tools do do everything your bike will ever need done to it then well buddy your bike has an experation date. I havent seen a harley dealership refuse to service or do repairs big or small on any harley. My dad owns an old 70's model harley and he can ride it but doesnt get around all that well and his local HD dealer is more than happy to keep it rumbling along.

Honda will work on any Honda that comes into our workshop no matter what age or vintage Honda that you ride. Parts are just a little bit longer to get but we can get most parts one way or another. Buy a Honda and we will keep it serviced and in good riding shape for you.

Polaris did not acquire Indian! Its a bran new co that bought the trade mark from the last failed attempt.

    • theoriginalmungaman
      theoriginalmungaman 7 месяцев назад

Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews No they acquired another motorcycle co. Using the Indian name. The fact is the original Indian is long gone, the only thing remaining is the name thats it! These bike are Polaris. Why is Polaris, which is an established manufacturer with a good reputation not calling these Polaris cycles? Only two scenarios, there trying to trick people into thinking its the original co. (Most likely) or if it doesn’t work they can just end it like they did Victory without backlash on Polaris. No one has been able to take enough market share from Harley in the cruiser market, therefore if all you make are cruisers you will either have to stay stagnant and live with it or fold. In a publicly traded company you will fold. If all the Japanese manufacturers only made cruisers they would already be gone.

Thanks for your explanation. I would still argue that technically the sentence in narration is correct. Polaris did acquire the Indian motorcycle company, regardless of the state it was in.

Automotive Territory: Trending News & Car Reviews Indian motors was closed in 1953! All attempts at reviving the name had zero connection with the original! Polaris may have got other stuff from the last non connected failure. Who cares. In the 70’s Indians were Taiwan made dirt bikes.

Thanks for the video. My dream moto is Honda Rebel. As 1st bike. I had never think about motorbikes, but few weeks ago woke up with strong wish to drive a one. My friend said: "i want the same" and bought old Dragstat. Wife said: "u are crazy, think about our family etc.." So, I'm on right way...

Riding a motorcycle doesn't mean putting one's family at risk. Be safe, ride on and enjoy your life. However, make sure that you receive proper training before getting on a motorcycle. The Rebel is a great beginner bike, you will have fun riding it. Take care

What I don't understand is why a special motorcycle design had to be built called a cruiser, to ride through town at 30 mph? What is the difference between riding my FJR at 30 mph than a quote" Cruiser"? The FJR handles better, has a much better riding position, is smoother and more comfortable. The cruisers of today don't do anything better than a standard street bike and most things not as well. Please somebody tell me what the cruiser purpose is?????

One of the cruiser models that I unfortunately missed is Honda Shadow. By many accounts it has both the looks and reliability, plus could be equipped to serve as a great practical bagger. By the way, what bikes do you currently ride and what other models would you recommend as the ones fitting you description of an ideal motorcycle?

Great comment, thank you for taking your time to share with us! This is something rare on RU-clip, people usually come in, leave a short hateful note without any reasoning and leave, but I always love to read argumentative replies. I guess we are at the crossroads here. Some people prefer bikes with better looks,, others go for practicality and reliability. I don't think anyone is to blame here. Two eternal philosophies that deserve to exist whithout conflict

Why do Harley rider dwell on looks. When I am riding and keeping my eyes on the road ahead all I can see is the speedometer! I can see I will have to repeat a true story from Cycle magazine from years ago. This story, express my feelings and should other riders. It was the late 1930's at the isle of Mann races. The dominate bikes in that era were the single cylinder Norton's , BSA, Matchless etc. They were nice looking bikes. However the Italians brought over a Moto Guzzy v-8 , it too was 500cc. It was homely , covered with hoses and lines. Everybody laughed at , made rude comments. But the fucking laughing came to a quick halt , when they raced it down off the mountain circuit and it averaged 40 mph faster than any pretty boy bike there! None of my bikes have chrome or pretty paint , but I can blow any Harley rider off the road with them without even breathing hard, and when I do this they become beautiful real quick!

Welcome to the channel! I would say cruisers' purpose is cruising with style. Even if you feel that these bikes are inferior in terms of handling and comfort, they are incredibly beautiful, you cannot take it away from them ;)

d k world - I agree with you mostly but my buddy’s 2018 CVO breakout 1800 has fuel indicator and a slew of other tech goodies. On price though his was over $22k. I paid $900 for my 96 Honda Magna 750 and spent $600 fixing a bunch of small things and a couple of upgrades. I have no problem keeping up with him and even pulling on him at higher speeds. Sadly not much aftermarket for my bike though.

Appreciate you taking time to participate in the conversation. HD upsets me with their standard package. Every customer will order such options like ABS, so why not just boost the price and offer it as a standard? Why decepting the buyers trying to seem cheaper?

Kangaroo leather sounds a bit scary, but in today's world any custom-made high-quality product will find its buyer. Just make sure that you keep your quality standards high, listen to the feedback from the customers and create a youtube channel and all of the social media (facebook, instagram etc) with demonstrations of your own products. Good luck with the new enterprise! When the business takes off get in touch with me, we will discuss promotion possibilities

I think Honda's line up was best between 1998 and mid 2000's after which it discontinued the USA made F6C and shortly after their stunning VTX1800. Both of which in my opinion were leaps and bounds in front of any other cruiser style motorcycles available at the same time. Some would argue that in many cases they still are.
