- "When I came out of the closet I was blackmailed, threatened, even bribed. But of all the shocking words that were said to me, three stood out in particular - 'It's not natural'."
The idea that certain behaviour is "unnatural" is often used to justify bigotry, especially against people who are LGBT, polyamorous, or in any way non-traditional. But is it true?
Antonia Forster is a bisexual, non-monogamous biologist that wants to set the record straight. What does "natural" mean? Can animals be gay? Are there always two sexes? Prepare to see the animal kingdom as you've never seen it before...
Antonia Forster is a science presenter, comedian, and rapper.
Antonia believes communicating science should be fun as well as facty. So stay tuned right to the end for her rap about the diverse sexual practices of the animal kingdom!

Loved the talk.
Loved the rap.
I love her! She's amazing! Great speech!
I’m not sure why everything triggers everyone. If you don’t agree with her, cool, just listen and then go on. If you do agree, cool, gain what you gain and go on without being upset others don’t agree. Why so much emotional feedback on what she believes? Why are we so affected by what others think? Are we free or not? Does anyone these days “take the meat and throw away the bones”? Gain what knowledge you can, and if it doesn’t seem to make full sense or fit then let it go. (Don’t even sing that song! Lol) No one knows 100% what is right or wrong and true or false. This is why there’s so many religions and beliefs.... we are all the same in this one thing: we are all looking for truth, and we do not know for sure what that is, since none can prove it without doubt. I found the biology points in this interesting and disturbing lol. Magical phallic unicorn is a bit intense.
Her joke are great.
if you dont believe in demons by now you should be convinced they exist after watching this
This is amazing, Thank you
Amazing :D
polyamory in animals might be natural but your hair aren't.
Please team up with Lin-Manuel Miranda and make a legendary rap musical with a gender-bending cast.
God created man to live as human ,if u use the e xample of animal for your behavior, u do monkey .did u do r just study.
this is the best TedTalk
Well, well, well .... so it is about feelings and respect basically . Is this it ?...
Absolutely amazing rap, I loved it.
YESSSS !!! OMG :-O that was good !!!! !!!!
Damn nature is dope, and so is she.
I need you as my biology teacher, you're amazing
.......
Her delusional, personal beliefs are as natural as her green hair color.
And that is FACT!
Really love this talk. You're an inspiration.
Okay but that rap was awesome I'm dead
This is amazing
16:42 how is this not a meme??
i fell in love with her when she said marriage is unnatural!
Hilarious. I love her :D
We humans are too smart for our own good. Great video by the way and stay strong.
16:42 we need more of that
Everything is natural. Yes. But not every base instinct you have is a good foundation for a bonded and ethical life. This single-childless woman, who is wasting her reproductive years, wants to tell me that she has special insight because of the diversity of conspecific mating strategies? The interspecifics at the bar will bone you and the leave because you have no fidelity. That's natural, too. Good luck with extinction!
You know what they say... "tell a lie long enough and people will start to believe it"
Pervertion
10:46 that joke 😂😂😂
insects are a PERFECT analogy for humans... someone give this incredible woman a Nobel Peace Prize!
I think you might not have understood the message...
this was great!!!! id love to reeincarnate into one of those lizards
I have no issue with LB...whatever, but she's using disingenuous arguments to prove her point.
Also: male ducks have 5' corkscrew cocks and are serial rapists.
🤷♀️
The universe is a natural event therefore everything that happens with it is natural.
She had me at phallic 🦄... I'm in love 😍😍😍
meh...
I do agree with and sympathize with her on several points, won't explain them now. But one or maybe two, I want to reply to.
She said she didn't think marriage was 'natural.' . . as in not naturally occurring...?!
Maybe that is true and probably one more thing I'll concur with her on. For the act of marriage, no, it may not be 'natural' in and of itself. It's a choice (a pact) made through the act of monogamy with the underlying meaning of loyalty to the individual one enters the pact with. And to make the point about loyalty, in whichever way phrased, it has almost always been and mostly remains highlighted during the marriage vows even to this day. No, animals (the four-legged ones) can never understand monogamy because they are instinctive creatures. Animals don't reason over what other creature (of like species and type) they mate with, whether the other mate has flaws, conditions, diseases, etc, or not. They just approach each other and proceed in performing the ritual. There certainly may be serious issues to consider so if the recipient doesn't protest then commencement begins. Where the quality of life is concerned, there is no comparison between humans and animals. We are simply the top feeders, keepers of the castle, as it is.
I also understand her concern about LGBT issues, especially ones over safety. It is preposterous to hear about gays or transgenders being murdered just because. That surely has to stop and pronto. And it is more than just disturbing to hear of family members shunning loved ones and being obstinate over their lifestyle choices. No, it's not murder or physical harm but the emotional well-being of the person concerned is just as important. Love and compassion should always be available to this group of people certainly by their family. However, there are going to be many who do not agree with these lifestyle choices and it will be voiced at one time or another. I just say do it with the aforementioned, love and compassion. Both sides have to respect the decisions of the other with wisdom and understanding in order for civility can be maintained.
Wow that was awesome 😎 THAT WAS AWESOME 👏🏻.
This is one of the most interesting and easily the most well delivered TED talk ive seen thus far. I hope her family who initially doubted her see this and are able to open their minds a bit more. They should be proud.
YOU BETTER TEACH
Possibly the best thing I've ever seen :D
Well, who really cares.
Love the rap, I hope she releases an album
Very Fascinating!
stop kinkshaming hashtag vore is natural
Wtf 😂
Amazing speech!!
awkward audience is awkward... i think this talk was great and i loved it
The rap was best!!!
yay!!!! I love it! yes nature is more diverse and far more complicatedly constructed than most things we humans can think up...
Yassss girl popped off
Two words: Mind blown. This talk was amazing
The only thing not natural about her is her hair.
What a world a male bee had!
This is my favorite video on the internet
... I enjoy the biology lesson though
This is such an awesome talk. Thank you so much!
THAT RAP IS MY LIFE
Hahahahaaa!
Look at this Q U E E N
People tend to point out animals who stay together for raising kids, like penguins or some other birds to argue her points. But all this just adds to the diversity of life out there....Some animals stay together for life, some don't. You have all kinds of species out there. I know birds that make nests for their babies and together they take care of their babies and together they stay. But I also know birds who makes eggs "out-of-wedlock" and then "drop" them off in secret in somebody else's nest (just like a spy) and that's how they survive and procreate. Both birds are natural! Both birds evolved on this earth. And that only proves that natural can be ANYTHING. We, humans, cannot decide for nature what natural can or cannot be. We can only observe, study, and wonder at the beauty of diversity of it all. Also, the whole idea of natural as being good vs unnatural as being bad is flawed, I agree with that 100%! There are so many unnatural things that I approve of and do myself: like brushing my teeth is extremely unnatural, but I do that and most people approve of that! Going to a doctor and getting vaccines is extremely unnatural, so is using condoms for birth control! Washing hands with soap and taking a shower with sanitized water is way too unnatural! It is a whole lot more natural to live like a homeless man because a homeless human being does not brush his teeth everyday nor take shower nor grooms his/her hair. A homeless is closer to being natural for sure, but nobody aspires to be like that...! Also, it is so natural to fart out loud , but we tend not to do that in front of other people. It is so natural to poop in the spot right where you are at the moment, but we hold it until we get to the bathroom and no animal does this - how natural is that???? SO true ....so true....
I celebrate being honest, being authentic, being yourself, being sincere - that is the only way to be happy and that's the only way to be natural(real)! And I see all that applies to you! Bravo!
I agree, very comfortable in her own skin...maybe these negative comments come from jealousy of that.
mental disorder ...
What's happening at 13:33...?
Wonderful talk, equality and love for all
I would like to add spanish subtitle to this. how can i do it?
Well... diseases and mental disorders are also just as natural amongst animals as it is on humans... just saying...
The rap was awesome! And she's such a great speaker too!
Goddam sicophants need to be beaten and left bleeding in their safe spaces
I'm amazed when people use wildlife to normalize their actions. I'm also a biologist. Her passions and desires will always be the outliers, never the norm. Build a hut with sticks on sand, it can easily fall down. Build a house with a foundation on rock, it won't easily fall down even during storms. There's no need to be rude or hate anyone, that doesn't mean that we all have to live in lala land.
Homosexuality is as natural as her hair color.
Green is actually one of the most common colors found in nature, so you're right.
The only things that are binary are yes and no questions and binary code.
Dem Had Ok?
This comment with this name has me confused 🤪
Cringey af...
Then why did you watch it?
Judging by your name it is no surprise that you are triggered easily
Loved this
It's not easy to take somebody with green hair seriously
thanks, and yes, I shared it.
ITS
NOT
NATURAL
+hey! dude!
nat·u·ral
/ˈnaCH(ə)rəl/Submit
adjective
1.
existing in or caused by nature; not made or caused by humankind.
"carrots contain a natural antiseptic that fights bacteria"
2.
of or in agreement with the character or makeup of, or circumstances surrounding, someone or something.
"sharks have no natural enemies"
Your reply makes no sense at all, if you are going to construct some sort of defence for there being no God, then please attend to this minimum detail
hey! dude! I don’t even want to argue with you. God dosn’t exist. If God existed and he hated homosexuals, homosexuals hadn’t existed. And if God existed then YOU WOULDN’T HAVE EXISTED because God only created people with acceptabce in them, and for you, acceptance isn’t a thing.
Antares8491 yes, delighted to, in the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth and man and woman. satan saw Gods Glory and Almighty Power and wanted it for himself. satan accuses God of a certain level of falsity by saying that mankind only worships God because He made them that way, so their worship of God is robotic meaninglessness. God therefore allowed satan to have certain powers over mankind including the ability to deceive mankind and the ability to deceive man to such an extent that he could be led astray to worship all manner of false gods. the only caveat in this agreement is that God has written that all these things shall come to pass and that His Word the Bible contains the a-z of the human condition as well as the a-z of human history beginning to end including God’s Glorious Return to claim His Own for Himself. The Bible would also include. in great detail a description of how satan would do all of these things so that man would have a choice. Follow Gods Word of follow the world with all its false glistening baubles aka worldly wisdom and worldly intelligence. God has also written that upon the biting into the fruit in the Garden, corruption entered the world, so there are imperfections in creation and in humanity and in this ted talk instance , yes there are tragic natural occurences across the species. however, God’s Grace and moral plumbline has always been available throughout. Further, sinful man is now at a point in history where prophecies contained in Gods Word are at the door of being fulfilled and He is returning soon. the woman delivering this alleged intellectual ted talk presentation will stand dumbfounded as the God she mocked fills the skies and she (as with you too and all of us) are deliverd our rightful and just Judgment. What did we do in our lives? and Who did we choose to follow? and knowing in our hearts there was a choice all along. Had this ted talk woman confessed her sins, and accepted that God’s Son Jesus died on the cross in exchange for her sins, and had she received His wonderful forgiveness in that incredible exchange, then she wouldn’t be spouting any of this selfish sinful polyamorous nonsense she’s spouting now. likewise, you too, in asking me that fateful question, you have now been delivered an answer that i pray will change the course of your life. either way, on that Great Day He returns, you will now have no excuse when you too stand before Him awaiting Hid Judgment upon your life. Life is not some random game. you are here for a purpose. God loves you and wants you to turn to Him. i hope that answers your questions
Incredible information. What is the name of the mushroom?
Lls check her out. She needs a record deal asap. I enjoyed this talk. 👌🏽
lol im so high wtf did i just watch
Just be sure to turn it off before you come back down! lol
The mouth noises :p
natural =/= normal or healthy
Let's play pretend. Can I be the tooth fairy? You are all delusional. And no i don't hate you. That's just the reality of it.
Great talk. I have noticed it’s usually city people who go on about being unnatural. Anyone who has worked with animals knows better.
ew
I had two male dogs that were lovers... They also can say "I don't feel like it tonight, honey."!
The sequel: Pedosexuality and Necrophilia in Animals: Yes, Its Natural
Among animals. Also, your rap is painful.
Love u
But my decision is independent
God bless u sweetheart take care ..Rohit Goswami
That rap at the end was surprisingly entertaining.
its not natural , we are over it.
I will still see you all has people with mental disorders.
you are the only one here with mental disorder ... narrow minded and dump at same time wow..
Blu Hilaire lol you has much to learn
Green hair. All I need to know. This is scientific horse trot.
Vieze teef
when she said this is natural I’m literally crying. And the rap is so lit!!!
Pretty good up until the end, that was kinda lame
haha! she got flow
Lots of bigotry in the comments. It's a shame.
I wish people would just open up their minds and strive to educate themselves on topics they know absolutely nothing about.
As a human being, I feel that it is necessary (an obligation, if you will) for me to try and understand things I have no prior knowledge about or experience with. That's the reason I am here, watching this video right now. It's just irritating when people refuse to enlighten themselves because apparently wisdom is terrifying.
Anyways, this was a beautiful TED Talk and I'm glad I watched it. :)
+Noemy Villatoro I realize you can't put links in most comment sections, but would you mind sharing some keywords I could google myself? Where did you find your info?
Kind of like you are, by assuming that most of us don't educate, and research these topics ourselves. News flash, it just so happens that I do, and it is the very reason why I know for certain, this absurd TEDTalk is completely false!
You are confusing feelings, with facts.
Which is primarily the reason your comment sounds very similar to all the other very agreeable SJW's.
The only bigots are those who will not accept that someone disagrees with them. i think you one of them, mate! Talking about knowing that you don't have.
The word God is from the Holy Bible king James version red lettered, that no man shall lay down with woman folk and man folk , no woman shall lay down with woman folk or man folk or that no man to a man or a woman to a woman, one man shall be with one wife .if you r a man stay as a man or a woman to stay as a woman .
God never said to be lust but to love so LBGT is a lust which is a big sin wages of sin is death but
God the Father loves us all so much that he gave us his only begotten son LORD JESUS CHRIST to pay the price of death shed blood and water rose up according to the scriptures in Isaiah 53 , God created you prefect in his sight so why change that to became an abomination God didn't want this for u if u give him a chance to forgive u and u believe in what his precious son LORD JESUS CHRIST did for all of us u will get the love u need today,
+K Wippel Correct What ever floats your boat ;)
+Shelly Chaitram Maybe you should go outside instead of wasting your time typing out bible verses in the comment section of a video that you made the decision of watching with these opinions.
If God made everyone perfect as you say, that includes LGBT people. So either he's not very good at his job or he intended for people to be this way.
Or we could just be hyper-evolved life forms acting instinctively against a scripture from thousands of years ago that was written when people still thought the world was flat and had no idea that they were preceded by dinosaurs by a few million years. To say their world view was limited is like saying North Korea 'might' be an oppressive dictatorship. Therefore, it's hard to take such a scripture as gospel. Pun intended.
Beautiful!
