as is i'd maybe pay $3k for this. if it was curved i'd easily consider upgrading that to $5k. big companies seem to have this thing - nissan did it in the 90s, Nokia did it, apple did it, tesla's starting to do it, NASA did it, Alphabet did it to Google - where they take their poorly executed big idea innovations and start to sell them, but as soon as they fail they retreat so far from any form of innovation that it either destroys the company, or they go so mainstream that their innovation is barely recognisable.
i hope LG realise that theres it's niece markets that drive consumer consumption, and the only reason innovative designs failed it because they were just at the wrong price point or the wrong niece and at least bring back some big innovations if not make more good shit like see thru displays in future for the prosumer niche.

Smart windows is cool but if it is used to display commercials then destroy it! The entire world is inundated with millions and millions of commercials that are just an irritating scab that does not quit. Like a Chinese water torture test. Like a brainwashing monster from hell! Anyway man, thanks for the info! :O)

Combined with an eye-tracker a nice way to get augmented reality, I think.
Concidering the tv is stationary it should be a lot easier to do than holo-lens or co.

Any news on when it will be available for 'regular' customers, and ballpark pricing?

Gaming would be cool with several layers. Imagine the successive layers of T-OLED with a considerable distance between them so that they can show different info that would create a depth of field or a 3D effect.

10:30 Now you just have a regular screen, dude. You're trying to justify this shit as hardly anyone will ever have a use it. Even for luxury jewelry you have too much light loss behind that thing and an ugly frame in front of your very expensive stuff. I would never put this in my jewelry store.

If the screen could spin quickly without damaging it, it could make a holographic display. Being transparent could reduce the amount the display blocks views of what is behind it even though an opaque screen could be used for a similar effect. Having a super high refresh rate would be really important, though. Even at 360Hz, 10 full rotations per second would leave you with 10 degrees per refreshed image so the 3D model would look pretty rough and 10 full rotations per second would be noticeably choppy. If the refresh rate could go up, that could be a very good high resolution hologram. A stack of a few stationary screens could be used for a holographic display too but the amount of opacity would limit that to just 3 or 4 layers.
