    Casually comparing a Workstation-grade Threadripper 2990WX ($1799) with a Server-grade Xeon 8180 ($10 009).
AMD wins in every non-gaming benchmark by like 5-25%.

It must be noted that the 2990WX variant of Threadripper II is thirteen months younger than the Xeon Platinum 8180 and 8180M and has a 0I2 Nanometer Manufacturing process, as opposed to 0I4; to my knowledge, Intel's Desktop~based successor to the 8180 and its M variant could possibly have an architecture of Coffee Lake SP or the new Ice Lake that we have yet to see much out of Intel Core: Generation X, Coffee Lake SP sounds more reasonable and this could potentially see itself as an optimization of the architecture but this could be a real gamechanger for the development of Threadripper III if Ice Lake were to be used, AMD would have to step up big time to truly reign supreme.
For now, Threadripper II will have its time in the spotlight, but I've a feeling that if Intel can pull off this or hold off to optimize it for Ice Lake, Team Blue will hold the top rank again for a good bit; ultimately, it's Zhaoxin that I am truly curious about: It would be interesting to see what they will pump out, especially with the claim of having the first 07 Nanometer Manufacturing Process on a consumer CPU (in this case, the ZX~F and KX~7000 family), because if they truly are able to hold up against high ranking Desktop processors, it's only a matter of time before Team Scarlet is able to meet up with or best Team Blue and Red in terms of performance, we'll have to keep a good eye on them if what they deliver truly will make a difference and wishfully Linus and company will cover this at some point, it must be remembered that there is another competitor outside of the major two once again and this is a good place to start.

@Linus Have you considered redoing this video with undervolting the AMD ThreadRipper for the gaming performance comparison portion? There have been a significant number of videos that show that undervolting AMD CPUs ends up yielding higher results. I do not personally know this to be true and would trust if more if it came from you.

I'm still running an i7 4960X, but i've always been an Intel guy, but now im definitely gonna go with a threadripper on my next rig, glad to see AMD is giving Intel a run for their money (and hopefully it makes Intel stop running for everyone else's money).

    Please upvote for visibility:
I currently own a 2990WX and at 3.4GHZ with all cores populated running a compression job through Bandizip, I'm seeing full core utilization AND this 3.55TB compression job which took over FOUR DAYS on my i7-5820k @ 4.2GHZ is now cut to about 12 hours, all for the SAME DAMN PRICE I SPENT ON THE INTEL BUILD. For those who want to call me a shill, please look up my name on IG (no space) and see that I am not invested in sponsors or computing, but I'm a 90's baby who grew up respecting how far these machines have come. I make upgrades with a very different philosophy than most, since it requires strength of will and dedication to know that settling is literally why you can never get ahead, something I learned with every single Intel computer I've purchased, especially when their anticompetitive practices forced AMD to bet on Bulldozer and get slaughtered on IPC, but no one mentioned us creatives rocking 9590's for 80% off leeching electricity off our landlords in illegal basements, building our entire businesses simply because AMD gave us chips that suddenly could render, animate, compress, KEEP UP, and despite the limitations, kept money in my pocket for me to spend on my LIFE, not online.
I understand this is newer tech, but let's all take a moment to acknowledge that Intel would NEVER offer 28 cores (what a weird number must tie to die size) unless AMD forced their hand, 2990WX is AMD taking BACK the crown, AND WITH CHIPLET DESIGNS, I forsee that with just a BIOS update, I can literally update to the next king from here on out, resell this processor (I never overclock and when you see what I'm 3D printing to ensure perfect TR4 thermal paste applications) and use the difference as a "coupon" to stay constantly ahead of Intel from here on out.
God DAMN I FEEL GOOD TO BE BACK ON TEAM RED. Lol @220MB/s steady into 3x Firecuda 2TB in a Storage Space as RAID 1. Intel has NOTHING that can offer clock + core and won't even when they hit 10nm (while GloFo / AMD will be well into 7nm by then)

In the time it would take for them to invent the architecture to get rid of seeking perfect one-die pieces that perform high enough to be top tier silicon, AMD can develop on over 5 years of development from investors (who invest through buying Faildozer and HBM1) to now completely put BOOTS to Intel.
With the TR4 die space, I forsee 64 Cores on 7NM with ~400w thermals @ 4.3-4.5ghz. If you're on Intel? Stop pretending those socket updates don't suck. TR4 was designed for expanding into the socket size and bandwidth, PCI-E lane accessibility, and more.
Anyone who was born in 1991 and grew up with a computer from the days of beige towers and CRT monitors will attest that AMD is the only solution for anyone who doesn't throw money away like they would their life.

      Nova Exclusives 5 months ago

Forgot to mention: 220MB/s at highest compression level from .ARW / .JPEG files that normally would trash computers with the varying file sizes and types. The core count basically hides any single process that won't "compress" at full speed and with AMD Ryzen Master Utility, it will turbo any single cores to maxiumum speed based on set TDP.
Even more appealing is that the AMD software identifies the strongest cores within your processor, the second strongest, and basically tabulates the per-die, PER CORE PERFORMANCE and gives you the best it can give.
I may not be at 4ghz but coming from 6 cores, 12 hyperthreaded to 32? Seeing every benchmark leaving SPADES of room in the CPU? I'm confident that AMD FineWine is back.

I'd like to point out that Intel CPUs are still way more optimised for computational tasks. Even "cheap" 6-8 core Intel CPUs outperform Ryzen and Threadreaper chips at operations involving MKL, BLAS and LAPACK, that is almost all maths-heavy stuff.

Yay AMD wins at doing something like 1% of CPU buyers need it to do.... lol. The rest of us, who are gamers, will stick to paying a little bit more for #1, by a significant margin, single core performance. Call me when AMD gets their single core performance up above Intel's for more than a couple months. 9th gen Coffee Lake just released and while it is just a refresh, they've made some nice changes. And the new flagship i9 is only $488 (MSRP) That's $488 for top level Intel, 8 core, 16 thread, #1 gaming performance ladies and gents. AMD can't answer that.
