I've been chronically ill for the past 5 years and unable to work but as I slowly see improvements in my health I have decided to start a you tube channel on meditation, mainly as a hobby initially . I loved to travel before becoming ill and I love your videos which allow me to live vicariously through you! In the back of my mind I hope to get well enough to travel again at which point I have no intention of working again in my fulltime, NHS career and taking the odd holiday. Instead, I would rent out our house and travelfor a couple of years. I'm hoping over the next 5 years I can make the transition from living on disability benefits to being self sufficient (not just from RU-clip but other ideas I have for income). This video has been really helpful in discussing the reality of that so thank you.

That is the truth, working for oneself literally means the double the work often (figuring things out one self and actually doing the work).
But it’s worth it in the end, and it’s not for everybody

Nice real talk :) it always nice to hear more information about money and earning money via being youtuber.
I'm always suprised how difficult it is for people to tell how much they earn. I live in Finland and here it is public information how much everybody earn. Every November newspaper also write how much youtubers, celebrities, singers etc has earned last year. So for me it is so normal to know how much everybody earn. But of course it is only your business how much you earn. πŸ‘πŸΌ
If you want to hear more about finnish system how everything is public information, I recommend to look Dave Cad's video about topic. Dave Cad is english youtuber who nowadays live in Finland.
And for how much I earn it is around 1400-1600€/month πŸ‘‹πŸΌ

Don't get so offended when someone asks you how much you make on youtube. Don't be ashamed to brag every once in a while.

  • Miaaroundthisworld
    Miaaroundthisworld 4 months ago +1

I am America and I was raised to never mention how much you earn but it is β€˜normal’ in American society to talk about the figures. Maybe I was born British and just haven’t been told lol. I have worked for myself for years and I also would t change that. I have no problem working on zero sleep and traveling and staying in freezing places like Russia to work with clients vs being at a desk job and getting yelled at by someone who is senior to me only because he is the owners brother in law. Didn’t happen to me but to a friend and I will never envy that situation lol

You know, when people ask how much you make, you can tell them "My Google Overlords tell me I can't reveal the exact amount".
Unless things changed since last time I looked, you are not supposed to reveal how much you make exactly. a range is ok. With Google Adsense/RU-clip only.

I can relate so much. I had some negativity when I started sponsored videos but with adsense it's necessary! I kind of did things in reverse to you, I had a property in the UK etc but sold it, now debt free.
I used to really stress about how much I make, but as long as I can survive whereever I am, I stress less! I always have a buffer zone incase of disasters! (I've had a few along the way!)
    Great video Aly!

i'm the same although it's often seen as a big taboo, although someone randomly asking is a bit weird i guess. it actually makes it easier for companies to pay people unfair wages when people don't discuss their earning through as people don't know they are being paid less than the person next to them

This was such a useful video ! I am hoping to make the jump to full time freelance writing and blogging and whilst the way money works is slightly different then with RU-clip , I think a lot of this crosses over! The most useful tip for me was definitely about having a base line amount of money in your bank account, that way you know how much you can afford to spend each month! I think it was actually me and someone else in the comments that might have triggered this real talk and I am glad we did! Like I said before I hope it didn’t come across badly,I guess I was just slightly baffled at your ambitious and expensive travel plans for this year after you said that you couldn’t really afford travel in 2018 and were grateful for press trips ! But now I understand that money fluctuates and that you set aims and then work towards them. I hope you manage to make your travel goals a reality this year and do more independent travels rather then press trips ! Rooting for you girl x
