It's always been 7 cards for the starting hand, 6 cards for prizes. The rules stated in this video are out of date as this video was made in 2013.

If you attack using a energy card doe you have to remove it couse there is a cart that says if u use this attack remove 2 energy cards or something like that

Also they changed the rules and added restrictions on who goes first.
The player that goes first cannot attack or use supporter cards. However the player going first does have an advantage on being able to set up and prepare on their first turn.
The player that goes second has an advantage to attack and use supporter cards on their first turn.

Actually I think they changed the burn condition rules now. Instead of having to flip a coin to determine if burn deals damage, instead it always deals 20 damage between turns. However between turns if you flip a coin and get heads the burn condition goes away after the damage is dealt.

This was a really well-explained video. However, I wish you would take the game example (12:41) and turn order and allowances into a separate shorter video though. That part was short enough for my 6yr old to pay attention to, but the rules and variances of card types was too much for him to focus on.

Do you have to place all of your basic Pokémon at the begging? If your bench is full, can you switch bench Pokémon to Pokémon in your hand, for free?

    • isbragg
      isbragg 2 months ago +1

You do not have to put all of your basics on the bench at the start if you don't want to. And no, you can't freely swap Pokémon between hand and bench when it's full. Once a Pokémon is on the table, it's there for good unless a card effect allows you to pick it up.

    Ok so really embarassing:
I was in a shop, and there were four choices to buy:
    1. Basically a booster pack with 4 boosters and a featured card that you can see, this one featured a Decidueye.
    2. A similar booster pack, but it features Lucario.
    3. A structure deck based around Garchomp
    4. A structure deck based around Deino and his evolution.
Guess what I chose? Remember how this is really embarassing? Well, my dumb self chose 1.
Not even a whole deck. Just random cards, half of which aren't even USABLE. I got a really good Magikarp that can evolve any time by using it's move (if it succeeds, I don't remember), but I dont even have a Gyarados. Or, Psychic Memory, but I don't even have a Silvally. Yea I was dumb.

wait if you can put unlimited energy's into your deck, then what's the point of attack costs if you can just put unlimited energy's in your deck

    • isbragg
      isbragg 4 months ago

Balance. You can only play one energy card each turn, and energies still count against the 60 card total for a deck.

All turn actions are optional, except for drawing a card at the start of the turn. If you don't want to play a card, you don't have to play it. In the event that you don't have a particular card type (such as energies) in your hand, you'll just have to skip the associated action that turn.

Physically, they can be whatever you want to use to keep track of damage. Most competitive players prefer to use dice. Card text-wise, one damage counter is equal to 10 damage and is not affected by any damage modifiers like weakness and resistance.

Just so people know, burn now gives 10 damage and doesnt require a coin flip. At the end of the person with the burned pokemon turn, a coin is flipped. If heads the burn effect is removed. If tails it remains on
