But once it reaches critical mass it can only end one way; mass explosion. Then the next Administration will have to spend billions and several years cleaning up all the orange goo all over America.

As a Canadian we helped get 8 of your people out of Iran when 52 of your citizens were taken hostage. We stood shoulder shoulder with you at 911 and took thousands of your citizens when Bush ordered the planes to land. Our brain power and technology helped you land on the moon. That may be difficult for some Americans to accept. If Canada need assistance I would look over my shoulder and see how far back you were. My daughter is in traveling in the Ukraine and the people there are scared because of the Russian troops on the border and say the NATO countries except the so called leader of the free world will not be there if Russia invades because the USA has aligned itself with Russia.
One thing that piss me off is Americans who are saying that they are Canadian when travelling. My daughter was in a coffee shop in the Ukraine and was explaining to the server how we are different from Americans. After doing this about a minute later a woman came up to her and in a Texas accent said she tells people when travelling that she is Canadian because of the dislike for Americans in the world. That is so sad. If you are so great why do you have to do that? I have heard this many times. What you are not proud of your country? My Grandfather was American and in my mid 20's and 30's wished he had moved us there. Thank God he didn't because we would have to file for bankruptcy because of health issues with our son.
As a country who out spends the next 9 countries and who kills the most citizens in the first world countries that is something you are so proud of.I hope you tattoo that on your chest.

Why have so many military big wigs been assigned and then replaced in short order by the current short order cook? Because they demand leadership and would rather bail and let the pilot crash then be part of the disaster that's coming. Sec Of Def needs to be listened to not just told what to do. Experts know a few things that newbies don't and should be consulted not demeaned because their view differs. Can't expect that from the White House Weasel.

You didn't read the letter. Syria is one small piece. Any withdrawal can be debated but what can't is how Trump arrived at the decision. No consultation with those who would advise, no heads up to our allies who are there supporting the mission, no support for the groups we're leaving behind. The Free Syrian army will be fair game for the Russians and the Kurdish fighters will be decimated by the Turks. ISIS is still in Raqqa without those two groups handling ground offensives.
America isn't supposed to leave our allies like this.

Stephen, you're great but he DIDN'T retire, that's the whole point! White House tried to spin it that way, but there's a reason why Mattis made sure the resignation letter was put out by the Pentagon (!!!) He (correctly, as is now obvious) didn't even trust the WH to be truthful about why he's stepping down...he resigned IN PROTEST. That's never happened before, ever. That's seriously a national security crisis. As it sadly should be. No one in the military should stand by and agree to join forces with the enemies while hurting the allies. And God forbid if Trump gets to assign some Whitaker to be Secretary of Defense, the whole world's going to be in even more trouble. #TRE45ON

First: It's "commander in chief," not "commander and chief." Second: The members of the Cabinet aren't supposed to be lackeys who "follow orders." They're supposed to be advisers whose counsel the president listens to because the president acknowledges that he doesn't know everything. Donald Trump thinks he knows everything, and like you, he believes that the Secretary of Defense should be a lackey who simply follows his orders. And you clearly have no idea how bad that is.

For a guy that went to Iraq in '09 for a cute week, it boggles the senses for him to speak flippantly about Mattis. The Secretary can take a joke and all, but it ain't necessary of Stephen. Mattis is the stuff of legend, the kind of guy you get on the internet and waste time commenting in their defense on RU-clip. It's a dreadful time sure, but man my heart just goes out to Mattis.

    • Valerie Rodger
Valerie Rodger 5 months ago +1

It's satire, so of course it's going to be said in a comedic manner. I didn't get any sense of disrespect towards Mattis from it. Just because it sounds flippant, doesn't mean it's dismissive - sometimes it's the only way to deal with sickening situations. It's a tactic I find myself using frequently.
Like anybody who has been paying any attention and knows anything about Mattis, he knows full well how troubling this departure is.
Mattis managed to serve in this administration without becoming tarnished by it. He served his country honorably every moment, everybody who has been paying attention knows that.

  • Porkchop Sandwiches! God that smelled good.

Gearing up for the THIRD federal government shutdown of 2018-why? Because Trump is demanding American taxpayer dollars for a wall that he’s insisted for years that Mexico would pay for - which was clearly never going to happen. Income inequality continues to race along boosted by the massive Trump trickle down tax cuts. With the stock market trembling (even though it’s only rallied for the past couple of years because of corporate stock buybacks), he’s ordering military troop movements via tweet and his department of defense (the last seasoned professional in his administration) has walked out on him - a move which was likely orchestrated by Trump as a distraction from the fact that countless investigations, having picked off his shield of sycophants one by one, are now closing in for the kill.
There is no use debating Trump supporters anymore - anyone who is still with him at this point will never lose faith-they will be wearing their MAGA hats and chanting his name until the very bitter end. Even as they watch the ship go down by the bow, they insist not only that nothing is wrong, but that things couldn’t be better. And anything terrible that he does immediately gets a pass because of [insert “what-about-ism” or bad thing that someone else did here].
If that’s not fanatical, I don’t know what is. This shit show cannot end soon enough...

The military couldn't do anything about CBP using tear gas on the refugees.
Mattis has done a lot to mitigate Trump's damage, delaying things and throwing around red tape like it's going out of style. He got away with it because he didn't publicly criticized Trump. When it came to sending troops to the border, he had no reason to resist it. The troops couldn't do anything, and he knew it. The troops would not act on any illegal order, they weren't going to do what Trump wanted them to do, and there was no harm in them being there.
Mattis is no idiot. He's a brilliant strategist, which is part of the reason why he's managed to last so long with Trump. He gave Trump the border troops because it was something that kept Trump happy without doing any real damage.
