I know this video is old and all, but I just wanted to point out that the vast majority of Lupus patients (which includes Selena), has some form of vocal deficit, and that’s on top of the general fatigue that comes with the disease.
Not saying that’s why she’s inconsistent, as it may very well «just» be a lack of training. But it’s at least worth considering.
When singing is your passion, it Truly sucks to have a condition that makes your vocals unpredictable and easily worn out.

How come nobody can just say she’s really bad. Money to hire the best of the best, and still sounds bad.

With Same Old Love, I'm a pianist and not a vocalist, but I can very clearly tell the difference in mood between the two performances (some of that comes from key). Personally, I prefer the 'worst' version. Sounds more aggressive and hooks me into it more.

Seems to me that a lot of the "worst" ones were when she was trying to dance and perform while singing, and the "best" ones were when she was standing still and could concentrate on her singing instead of singing and dancing at the same time. Plus, she's just not a skilled singer. The studio does wonders for a lot (most) of these Disney singers.

I think she's also kinda tone deaf (idk if that's the right terms) but she constantly hits one seminote up/down, go off key, sing in a different key. It's infuriating to me.

In all honesty, I feel like Selena's value lies more in her fame than talent. She's just not a good singer, she doesn't even put the effort to improve and her songs are fun to listen to because she got producers that could make catchy tunes. It's kind of funny when her fans get so desperate to try and convince themselves and everyone else that she can sing like, it's okay to like someone even if they can't sing, you know? Some people still like 21st century Mariah Carey.

I just don’t think she’s a very good singer. She can carry a tune ( most of the time) but that doesn’t a great singer make. If she’s sitting down and not moving she can hold it together better-if she’s moving around a stage forget it.

I feel like the maker of the video is biased.. there are a lot more songs in her repertoire that showcases her current vocals much better than any of those clips.. Its like they compared bad with not bad and showed none of her good performances.

While Selena Gomez isn't my favorite, she has been very open about her health. She has Lupus. She's had a kidney transplant. If she has a bad show (or a dozen), then so be it. Maybe she's not a lazy singer or a poor one, but maybe she's focusing on her health instead of her career. I have a chronic illness myself, and there are days I can't keep up with the basics. What she's doing while living with her chronic illness is honestly pretty awesome. So, no, I don't like her as a singer, but she's still an amazing person.

I think the point of the worst for Me and the Rhythm was that she was supposed to be lip syncing to it but messed up by barely remembering to sync along. I could be wrong though 🤷🏻‍♀️

So far, Selena Gomez is one of those rare singers for which I agree on the consensus that she is a bad vocalist.
