Joel Embiid is right and Chauncey you sir are wrong. With all your experience, how come you can't see that Ayden dont play the defense Embiid plays??? Either you are being disingenuous or you are only focus on their offensive play. Even on offense, Ayden don't have what Embiids has in his repertoire. #Facts

Ayton has the higher ceiling. Mark my words. Embiids offense is very overrated. Ayton might end up being a better version of David Robinson. Embiid has been compared to Hakeem but look how inefficient embiid is. He’s nowhere close to Hakeem

I don't think anybody has ever questioned whether or not d book can ball. I know personally I just said pump the breaks on deeming him the next black mamba and the next best SG in the league. I never gave that title to him not because he wasn't good....but because I can't remember one healthy season he has had since his amazing 71 point game. Have a healthy season, be that dude that can at least get your team to the playoffs as an 8th seed that's all....and then let's revisit the topic.

    • Kim Stuart
      Kim Stuart 8 months ago

Well i hear you. Rookie season aside and last season aside he has technically only played one legit season. But even then lol, they have been lottery picks every year he has been there, even his one healthy season. Again, I am not saying he is a scrub by any means, dude is legit. I am just saying pump the breaks on the "next black mamba" and the "top 5 SG" conversation....at least until he has been proven he can consistently lead his team to just an 8th seed lol, not conference finals or the NBA finals anything, just an 8th seed before we say he is the next big thing. That is more than fair i think, we can't just give these high comparisons out hahaha

    • Kim Stuart
      Kim Stuart 8 months ago

I like what I saw against Dallas. Not as in the "first game" so what feel, but they have chemistry, real chemistry and Trevor Ariza never looked better from every position on the floor, defense and offense and Josh Jackson was confident in shooting the 3 and it looked smooth. I think they have all the potential to make some noise and snag an 8th seed. Booker, Jackson and Ayton could be the big 3 of the future, with a veteran in Trevor, chandler and Crawford. I just have to see it to believe it though lol.

    • Malcolm Hill
      Malcolm Hill 7 months ago

first of all, being a good athlete doesn't equal being a good defender. that is foolish! if that were the case, most guys in the league would be excellent defenders. Defense is 1000% about your mentality. You either take it personal or you don't, that is tough to "teach" to someone.
Also with Embiid specifically, dude seems to be a bit of a basketball SAVANT. He picks the game up at a rate that is just not normal, any trainer or coach thats worked with him says something along those lines. Relative to size, Embiid plays excellent perimeter defense and is jsut a larger body for people to get around. Ayton is quicker, but far from a better overall athlete, please don't be fooled because Tatum hit a few tough shots against good defense. They both should be great players, but Embiid does not even appear to have a ceiling atm, he could own the league in a couple years

Projecting centre's is almost impossible in the NBA. After Joel Embiid as the best big man in the world, Clint Capela is one of the best players up the middle, which is why he got a huge deal from the Rockets.

    • kevinseveneleven
      kevinseveneleven 8 months ago

@Random Guy he could but the way their offense is designed and playing with 3 (or 4 now!) high usage perimeter guys, how often is he going to use those moves? On top of that he's got a narrow frame so I'm not sure he'd have much success. The best post scorers have wide hips or a high release on their turnaround ie Kevin Garnett.
I don't think Blake Griffin is the example you're looking for. He steps out to shoot more jumpers but for about 5 years straight he was scoring 21ppg, last year dipped just a little to 19.8 so adding to his game didn't increase his productivity at all haha and he's widely considered to be an overrated player at this point in his career.

    • Random Guy
      Random Guy 8 months ago

@kevinseveneleven so he cant learn a post move or 3pt shot like blake griffin did? SMH.

    • kevinseveneleven
      kevinseveneleven 8 months ago

@Geoff Thompson incorrect. The most likely scenario is that he (at age 24) has entered his prime. He would have to dramatically increase his usage to start scoring 18 ppg. His skill level and the quality of his teammates make that highly unlikely to happen. As long as his body holds up he should be consistent for the ne t 4 years, then at his age 28 season we'll see how well he's been taking care of his body and how much wear and tear he has. He'll be playing for that last big contract so he has incentive to keep playing his role and helping his team win.
For reference, check the career trajectory of every starting center in the NBA over the past 30 years.

    • Geoff Thompson
      Geoff Thompson 8 months ago

I supported the 3 scenarios: Capela could hit another level at 18 PPG and 13RPG. He could stay about the same at 14 PPG and 11 RPG, making him worth 20 million. Or, he could be considered overpaid at 8PPG and 8RPG, 2 or 3 years from now. The scenario doesn't apply to any player. If an elite PG or SG, is scoring 22 PPG, and dips to 18PPG, their value is the same. It's a good contract even at 30 or 40 million per year. If an elite PF goes from 13 PPG, to 10PPG and 10RPG, their value is still the same because of what they bring to the table offensively and defensively like Draymond Green. If a SF like Gordon Hayward declines from 22PPG in Utah to 16PPG in Boston, his value is still about the same.
All 3 scenario's with Clint Capela are equally likely because projecting a centre, other than the fact they can play, is almost impossible in the NBA.
      That is all.

    • kevinseveneleven
      kevinseveneleven 8 months ago

@Geoff Thompson uhhh that's different from what you were saying before and those 3 scenarios (production increase/decrease/stable) would apply to any player. Gilbert Arenas was worth max money before he hurt his knee, but after he wasn't.
As far as Capela, he's pretty much maxed out his talent. Even the most casual observer of the NBA could tell you he's not going to turn I to an 18ppg scorer. He's still in his physical prime, so it's safe to assume he'll be consistent over the next 3-4 years.
