addictions are learned..hard to unlearn ..
    i got over smoking
    i got over drinking
    i got rid of coffee
    i have trouble giving up.
    caffeinated Dr pepper..
addictions are a b.....east...the x or y decision is at best a toss up.. sundowning is a definite hazard... i have herbal tea in the am..
    I don't have a tv
i now look at yt a lot... used to read
    prodigiously..library of mystery
    novels
addictions are a bear.. it ain't lack of motivation.. it's addiction to the comforts.. Mel Robbins developed the 5 second rule..it helps trigger action on what you know needs to be done...like she says..you know what you need to do...what you want to make happen ..you never want to...a very helpful technique

It's interesting because I've followed her podcast for a while before I saw this talk so I already know a lot of her background and the context she speaks from. Reading some of the comments though makes me realize that when that context is missing, how much can you glean about a person from a speech of less than 20 minutes? Everything she talked about is part of a very positive and much bigger message and some of the comments that didn't necessarily agree with what she said went on to explain their views which in actuality are the exact same things she talks about, but perhaps not expressed in the same language with the same metaphors.
Now, she focused a lot of her metaphors and life story on her time in the fitness industry so I can see why some of the more negative comments focused on personal appearance and judgments on body weight, but the point she is making is that in the end her original motivation to be fit has been replaced by self-acceptance and that working in the industry has allowed her to adopt a mindset of personal growth that involves turning your personal struggles into opportunities and lessons.

YOU are an inspiration....don't ever stop doing what you're doing!!! I love your point about NOT waiting for that cover to start being happy and inspiring!!!! Soooo many people think "I won't be happy until I get those 6 pack abs, or lose 10 lbs, or make $100,000". They all make the tragic mistake of tying their happiness to a result....F$%& THAT!!!! NOW is the time to be happy!!!! NOW is the perfect time to start inspiring!!!!

    • Robert van den Eijk

Her talk was kind of inspiring. The message I got was: "Don't wait for other peoples approval to start living" and "Use the tougher things in live to become stronger and better". But most people fall in the middle of the bell curve and won't be exceptionally special in any kind of way (except to their mom). It's good to improve yourself. But not all people have her stamina to really stand out. Most people will steer towards a mental breakdown with such focus for success. Not to forget, how many woman did she crush during the fitness competitions? Let them speak too.

    A great talk...
    some quick points made.
    1. Ridiculous funny face on both sides (BEST to free the audience )
    2. Resistance + Time under tension = Strength.
    3. Heavier the resistance the stronger the muscle you can build
    4. Keep the under muscle UNDER tension until failure
    5. IF you don't USE it you lose it
    6. As you get stronger ' You must take on more challenging forms of resistance'
    7. Seek the uncomfortable situation -> Grow
    8. Time, Patience, and Consistent INCREASE RESISTANCE = progress
    9. A career they can't ignore
    10. Nothing on wheel (up to you)... Use the time....
    11. It's not happening to you, It's HAPPENING FOR YOU....
    Resistance Training.
