Peyton Manning and his “idiot kicker” had a brief beef, but the football world never let it die

  • Published on Feb 13, 2019
  • Throughout his long and accomplished career, Peyton Manning was smart enough to avoid saying things to the media that would rile up his opponents or come back to bite him. Except the one time, in the middle of the 2003 Pro Bowl, he trashed his "idiot kicker" Mike Vanderjagt, because Mike had trashed him and Tony Dungy a few days earlier. Everyone said they were sorry, but that brief feud created a narrative that never really went away, even after Vanderjagt left Indianapolis.

I miss those mid 2000`s Colts..... Not just the Colts, the NFL in general was incredible.... The last year I consider incredible was Bret Favre`s Vikings run. Manning, Favre, Kurt Warner, Drew Brees, Romo, Ray Lewis all had some of their best teams. After that Peyton`s Broncos run was the last I did not miss football games.... Now it`s kind of meh.

early in Peyton's career he had the personality of a kicker and Vanderjagt was literally the life of the party in Indy. The mistake Vanderjagt made was airing out team business as I believe the conversation actually took place and Vanderjagt was actually trying to help matters by lighting a flame under Peyton's ass. At the time some pendents believed Peyton was a great but couldn't win big games as he under performed on Monday Nights and in the playoffs.

At least Vanderjagt didn't toss his wife under the bus by saying she was prescribed HGH and that he never took it. If Peyton's wife was taking it medically, then they did a bang up job hiding her HIV/AIDS, pituitary tumor, short bowel.

The narrators voice is, no offense, so child-sounding that it completely undermines the stakes of the video. Breaks it for me.

Do not compare our moron an Stafford to manning. I'm not sure they are even playing the same position at this point. Peyton kept getting better and better, Statford topped out five years ago and his best games are behind him. Nothing left for him to do but collect a huge paycheck the next 3 years and talk about "next year"

I don't know why the Patriots got rid of Vinateri. He ended up getting a 4th ring almost 10 years before Brady did.

I had no idea there was a beef between Vanderjagt and Peyton with this much history. I just assumed that one missed field goal against the Steelers in the playoffs killed Vanderjagt's career, and that was that. I didn't know there was more backstory to it.

LOL. Bois appearance was a much needed boost in morale for our troops sir. Also handling things internally between Peyton and the kicker should have been simple. Trade the kicker. Why would they even keep him after trashing a great QB and established coach? You gotta LOVE Peyton’s honestly and how candidly he spoke of it. He’s like “KICKER?” TF. Shut up and kick. Your not even really a part of this team.
