Fred Rogers inducted into the TV Hall of Fame

  • Published on Apr 10, 2012
  • Fred Rogers' induction into the TV Critics' Television Hall of Fame is especially touching when Jeff Erlanger, who had visited on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood as a boy in a wheelchair, surprises Fred by making the presentation on stage. Addressing the audience of television celebrities and producers, Fred speaks of his great respect for and understanding of the power of television-"How do we make goodness attractive?"

    1999, Los Angeles

Whats incredible here is that its just two old friends having a conversation - the thousands of other people in the room are secondary.

Notice how when Fred steps up to the mic that the room is dead silent. DEAD SILENT. The entire place is waiting and hanging on whatever he might decide to say. That is power, that is respect. When Mr. Rogers is going to say something, the world wants to hear every word.

Fred Rodgers and his demeanor and actions help me remember my grandmother, who passed many years ago. She and Rodgers are from the same era. Love and respect for others was first and foremost. i rarely, if ever, heard my grandmother criticize others, and I NEVER heard Fred Rodgers do that. That generation just seemed so much more respectful, truly cared about good morals. That is so desperately needed today, it seems.

Mr. Rogers and the community will always be the best, why would someone dislike this clip? O_o.

We need to grow and make his mission continue, there's too much negativity today and too much criminal activity, there has to be a change.

He said something that truly stands out. How do we make goodness attractive? Its easy to be indifferent. It is attractive to be selfish and hateful. And it is very hard to celebrate life and to love. There are many in this world who say that they accept the challenge to both live and love unconditionally but we don't hear enough about them. In fact, there are those who do their best to bring those people down because they want to believe that the entire world is as ugly as how they feel.
Fred Rogers proved that we can be beautiful and that we can never be brought down because of it. What Fred Rogers said was spot on. People who perform simple acts of kindness can do wonders, but we must nurture those individuals as well. We must show them that we listen. We must show them that we understand. If we can do that enough times then we can inspire the best out of humanity itself and that in on itself will make the world a better place.
