Daniel is right, Jean should have destroyed a city. In the comics she drained a sun and it destroyed a planet. In this movie they could have had her drain a nuclear reactor and destroyed city.

What honestly upsets me most about the last two films is that they finally decided oh now's a good time to bring in Nightcrawler again. Like, you bring him in on the the two worst films, and back then I didn't think it could've gotten any worse than Bryan Singer's horrible directing, well fuck me I was in for a shock

This isn’t a great movie, but boy can Joe complain lol

      DevilMayhem666 Month ago

Yeah. I found it strange that one of think it’s too soon to establish to explore Jean’s tragic backstory. That’s usually the first thing you do with a character, especially in superhero origin stories. Batman Begins for example.

    • Anthony A. Perez
      Anthony A. Perez Month ago

DevilMayhem666 Exactly! I love this channel, but sometimes I feel like they go for the weak joke instead of the valid criticism. And not in honest trailers itself, but the more free talking videos.

    • DevilMayhem666
      DevilMayhem666 Month ago +1

@Anthony A. Perez Yeah, they think Jean is under some short of evil influence. When the movie explicit states several times that her anger is the result of her repressed trauma coming to the surface. The cosmic force just unleashed a character flaw that was already there.

There should have been an X-Men movie between Apocalypse and Dark Pheonix. Apocalypse had its problems but I think it did an alright job at reintroducing some of the classic X-Men. There needed to be a movie where we get to see this team work together and take on a C-lister like Mr. Sinister or something. Keep the stakes kinda low and just show them getting to know each other more and work as a team. That way when you do your big retelling of Dark Pheonix the audience actually gives a shit about these characters.

    • DevilMayhem666
      DevilMayhem666 Month ago

It was originally planned as a two parter and we have been with these characters since First Class. If you are referring only to Jean wasn't even meant to be a villain but the protagonist who was suffering from PTSD according to the BTS content. You don't need a character to appear multiply movies to do what is essentially an origin story.

Here's how you make Jean threatening, Magneto back in the fight and paying sorta homage to blowing a planet: destroying a thriving utopia - Genosha. Magneto - feeling that his intentions to bring paradise for his people have been wiped out by one of his sisters - goes out to kill her. Simple!

I hated the decade hopping too. Raven was mostly the worst too, but it's believable someone could be that way-so that's okay. The biggest problem with these movies was that whatever the makers wanted to have happen or said was forced to happen or be said. Within this series' own imagined universe, they're fine movies. Otherwise..not so good if you try to frame it in a more logical/our reality manner.
