it's for your parents -- single vendor == Apple. I have bought Apple products for my parents for the last 15 years... the Apple store dealing with their issues for 3 years is worth the higher price... I do a quick house cleaning twice a year... Plus It's a push to imagine people in their 70s needing a hardcore gaming machine... so a mac mini with 16GB and a good SSD... If they want gaming Steam works OK..

Origin is so expensive because they're trying to be in the elite boutique, and price really helps make that separation. They're sort of like the Apple of the Wintel world.

An Apple product because of the post purchase support? The post purchase support for Apple products is worse than any company in secret shopper. If you go to an Apple Store, they flat out lie to you in an attempt to sell you a new computer, Apple constantly refuses to do extended warranties for issues that are their fault until after they get sued, and let's not forget the favorite fanboy phrase "you should have bought Apple Care" even though Apple Care does nothing to resolve those two other issues.
I can't believe a LinusTechTips viewer so dedicated that they have Floatplane, and thus surely has seen Apple's piss poor post purchase support for the iMac Pro, would ask such a stupid question.

35:50 Linus gets to have a real insight in to phone anxiety. 80% roughly of human communication is non-verbal. You lose MOST not all of that over the phone, married couple both with phone anxiety, the argument and debates and wheedling we have over making important phone calls are\is epic to behold.

It really is weird to see how some people encountered that disconnect where tech specs could not get any simpler and it then became Janice's fault. HI-Sense is what is often pushed at visions in Canada. Also for that gaming tech 3d tech is on my LG TV, no issues when its off but I never use the feature or the 3D effect.
Hearing about how much you care about the merch quality is very heartwarming. I personally was kinda bummed out with my LTT hoodie overall, but again I got it too support the channel like you said so it was less of a bummer.

    Forget marketing lol.
My Mom uses Macs (mostly because she has been using Apple since the Apple II (sadly she did not keep that one after replacement....)) and part of it is support.
Her G4 iMac, in 2011 she was getting support from Apple. Even *free* service/etc for somethings.
I totally get the Apple angle.
And, I must admit, if Apple could copy “snap” from Windows, I would seriously consider buying the upcoming Mac Pro, if it was even reasonably decent performance/dollar.... but I also only really play Blizzard games, so....

would be interesting to see Janice test out some "user friendly"/"idiot proof" tech, as the rest of you guys tend to be more tech savvy you may miss stuff that some less savvy might get stuck/trip up on. I personally realised this issue when i tried to write an instruction for someone to set up a networked drive on windows, i just assumed anyone reading it would have some level of windows experience, which turned out not to be true. so after walking the guy through it step by step over the phone while i emulated doing it from scratch on a PC my side I had to go rewrite the entire thing with added pictures including highlighting.

I've seen a few 'avid gamers' who knows only a fair bit about PC (eg. only knows that Core i7 is better than Core i5, or GTX1080 is better than GTX980 etc.). They don't really in to the geeky side of PC gaming, as they would only ask the store to do everything. So I think even those gamer will need some sort of technical support. I also know a few people who know quite a lot about PC hardware, but never touch any parts of them. They will run to the store whenever something breaks.
So I think the video also helps these people as well, not only the people who are not very used to the PC gaming.

Just because someone is an avid gamer doesn’t mean they know tech support. I would chose based on support not performance. At least for anyone but myself. I know approximately 2 people that I’d suggest complicated support.
Edit: omg.... so do all accountants use phones from 20 years ago? My sister has had her phone for so long I’m amazed it turns on still.

41:04 Speak for yourself. I get mad when family doesn't ask me to build them a computer and I can't sate my addiction to building rigs. I literally bought my dad a Ryzen 2200 setup three weeks ahead of Christmas just because it had been too long since my last build and his computer in the shop was an ancient Intel J1900 that I originally bought to build a carputer. I periodically disassemble and reassemble old parts like my brother's old FX 8300 rig just to fiddle with Linux distros and keep the urge to buy new parts at bay.

Unless we're talking CRT levels of thickness, there is no reason to care about TV thickness. You're not carrying it around in your pocket laptop bag; you setbit down once and not touch it again. An extra centimeter or three of less thickness means you'll get that "Wow!" feeling for like a week....and, then, forget all about it.

  • ShroudedWolf51
    ShroudedWolf51 4 months ago

The only reason why I know of Hi-Sense is because I work as a subcontractor and they are the second most common brand of TV I end up seeing, only second to Vizio.
Until this demo, the only reason why I thought they had anything going for them at all is that they made TVs that sold for ridiculously cheap (with just as cheap of quality).

The massive difference between...say, Maingear and Apple is that Maingear (and, Dell, iBuyPower, etc.) doesn't have an extensive history of shoddy engineering that they will compensate for by lying to and blaming the consumers for "using it wrong".
Yes, Apple has a lot of appeal to the layman, but surely their constant attitude of, "Yeah, this'll take $ridiculousSum to fix" or "Oh, just go buy a new one" wouldn't be all that appealing even to the biggest amateur.
Just imagine phoning up Maingear or HP and rather than help, they told you that you shouldn't have been using your gaming PC for gaming and that your only recourse is to bin the whole thing and buy a new one.
