Anyone notice shes talking about excessive things, you still need sugar and fats in your diet you just don't need 10,000mg of sugar and fats every day. Some of you don't understand what moderation actually means, you can still eat what you love and be healthy you just cant turn into a glutton and expect to stay healthy. For example, some of you are vegan, some of you are vegetarian, which is fine but you're not as healthy as you might think you are. (most of you probably don't know what glutton is but i bet money you can tell me you're on a glutton free diet) According to every nutritionist i've dealt with says sticking to one side of the diet spectrum is far worse than processed sugar, and the reason for that is because while foods that people like vegans and vegetarians eat do contain a lot of things our bodies need, they do not contain the amounts that we actually require to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In fact you would have to eat an absurd amount of veggies to get the same levels of protein that's in an average piece of meat. While you are still getting the same nutrients, you wont be getting them on the scale that you actually need to have a beneficial impact on your body and health. Its far better to have a completely balanced diet, that way you are getting a bit of everything that you really need instead of in small amounts that realistically unless your eating veggies by the semi load, you really aren't getting the benefits that you think. You can still over do it with healthy food to the point you actually become unhealthy though, its the same with water, while you need to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and healthy. Drink to much and you get water poisoning which can potentially kill you.

Well, to be honest with you, I have worried for months about what to eat and what not to eat. I have finally figured out that there is NOTHING healthy for us to eat. We can't eat meat, bread, sweets, vegetables or fruits, nor can we drink milk or water. A lot of people can't raise their own meat, fruit and vegetables. A lot of people can't buy organic cause it's expensive. So the only thing left to do is eat what you want and hope for the best and die when our time comes.
Now that we got that out of the way, what's everybody gonna do about these smart boxes attached to our light poles emitting radiation outside our homes and all these wifi waves emitting radiation inside our homes ? Not to mention cell phones causing cancer and we haven't seen nothing yet, just wait till 5G gets its grip on America. So really, our food is the least of our worries when you start to think about everything else there is to worry about. If the food don't get you, the radiation will and there's nothing we can do about it.

You may as well tell people that it's okay to give their children crack, as long as it's in moderate quantities. When it comes to poison, what is a moderate quantity? Is a little child abuse okay? NO! Giving a little child cow's milk in any quantity is absolutely NOT okay! Please stop! There are so many plant-based alternatives to cow's milk (no, you're not just limited to almond or soy milk - not by a long shot), there's zero excuse for giving a child cow's milk at all!

It is advisable to stop consuming milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc. Michael Greger in his book "How Not to Die" has summarized much of the research in this area.

Common misconceptions about science I: “Scientific proof”
Why there is no such thing as a scientific proof.
Misconceptions about the nature and practice of science abound, and are sometimes even held by otherwise respectable practicing scientists themselves. One of the most common misconceptions concerns the so-called “scientific proofs.” Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a scientific proof.
Proofs exist only in mathematics and logic, not in science. Mathematics and logic are both closed, self-contained systems of propositions, whereas science is empirical and deals with nature as it exists. The primary criterion and standard of evaluation of scientific theory is evidence, not proof. All else equal (such as internal logical consistency and parsimony), scientists prefer theories for which there is more and better evidence to theories for which there is less and worse evidence. Proofs are not the currency of science.

    • Jergas Apwith
      Jergas Apwith 2 months ago

Yeah, I understand what you are saying (I, too, studied maths.) Then again, language is polysemic, so there is nothing wrong with using the word proof in science, so long as its meaning is defined reasonably.
The problem is many people worship science but do not understand it, and even among scientists, many have a very shallow understanding of its underlying philosophy. Contrary to popular belief, science is not about truth, it is about prediction. The map is not the territory, so the map is not "true or false", it just models the terrain better of worse, ie, it is more or less predictive. There is even something to be said for simplicity, so that a model which is simpler and more elegant, thus easier to calculate, might sometimes, depending on the application, be more more appropriate, even if it gives less accurate predictions.
But, like I said before, these days science is, in a sense, "too successful for its own good". With too many "functional scientific illiterates" way too concerned with learning "the latest scientific truth" or with who is "for or against science". Science has become the monotheism du jour!

I have to disagree with the first major statement that she makes in this video. For too long, Health researchers have ignored the FACT that there is a marked difference in human health between RAW dairy and PASTEURIZED dairy. IE: before pasteurized dairy lactose intolerance( an ALLERGY to milk, allergies and health issues resulting from dairy being one of her biggest points in the clip ) was almost non existent. People who switch to raw dairy usually see this problem disappear, myself included.

@The22726 Uh, no. When I the store was open I would drive @ 70 miles round trip every other week to get 10 quarts of certified raw milk. By the end of the second week, it didn't taste as good, but I NEVER had any adverse GI problem with it. I recently drank some Kefir that had been unrefrigerated at between 55-65 degrees F for a MONTH (long story). It tasted normal and did NOT make me sick. Raw milk often contains bacteria that will ferment it but not rot it. There is a difference. Pasteurized milk does not contain fermenting organisms unless you add them.
The variety of cow producing the milk can make a difference. I can drink Jersey milk but not Holstein (most common source) milk.

Why would raw dairy be different? If you leave it somewhere at body temperature for a few hours (without any additional good bacteria) it will go as rank and acidic as pasteurised. For the condition she is describing why would raw make any difference?

Xrays, ultrasounds, needles, pills, even camera down my throat while under 10 years old. I was yelled at by a few doctors that I was faking for attention. Saying I have a disorder that I seek attention by faking being ill. One doctor yelled at me in anger with his face a few inches from mine saying I was a liar. Of course she is right, milk is terrible for health. Look up the effects on the body of the components of milk including organic, casein, IGF-1 (cancer growth accelerator) and animal protein on bone health. Milk contains 35 hormones including several growth factors designed to grow a baby calf into a 1000 pound cow in less than a year. It's been strongly associated with type 1 diabetes in children.
She's is however wrong on her suggestion to moderate milk consumption, she should say have none at all.

Like it or not, the amount of damage done to your body by smoking a few cigarettes a day and that done by smoking, say, a cigarette every few weeks, are of a different order of magnitude.
Any medicine turns into a poison if you exaggerate the dosage. You say bad, but its not a moral issue, its a health one, and the choice is not a binary dilemma.

Promoting a vegan diet should be regulated. It is not only not sustainable, but also incomplete. There are so many essential nutrients missing, that it cannot be undertaken without a number of supplements. It also keeps you eating and yet hungry almost all the time. Cows should be vegan, humans carnivores.

Maria cookies used at that time normal wheat and little sugar. But the wheat today use chemical fertilizer that unbalance and the milk is full of antibiotics and chemicals and both receive low radioactivity emissions to kill all bacteria and make it last longer. The body start a process of not recognizing these proteins and start the allergy. @Sharon Some people can do cold turkey. I have done it on more than one occasion. Yes, it can be hard, but is not impossible.
Admittedly, sustaining abstention becomes much harder when there is a lot of temptation. Temptation also makes moderation harder. The thing about sugar, is that temptation is all over the place these days in many settings.

That being said, I think she is just giving her advice from a scientific point of view. Some sugar, in appropriate doses and frequencies, is not a big deal in terms of its effects on your health. Whether appropriate moderation or full abstention are a better strategy is more of a psychological than a medical issue.

You're a very intelligent women and thanks for your work.
You are on the right path! But taking Milk moderate???? Why??? If as you say 75% of the population doesn't digest it and gets health problems. Is it so difficult to imagine going without the secretions of other animals? Rice-Drink, Soy-Drink, Oat-Drink, Almond-Drink and so on taste amazing!!!
We would all benefit from it.

Yeah, but when you're dealing with stubborn parents who think veganism is new age extremistism, and they are committed to the diet they grew up on...not even an expert will convince them otherwise. As a pediatrician, she has a duty to do what's best for her patients, and getting the patents to reduce dairy is better than no change at all. Sometimes, that's the best you can hope for.

Many of these alternatives do contain sugar as well. My solution is to make the milkreplacingdrink myself, I know what I put in it and have no sugar at all. Sometime I may add some Stevia that doesn't effect stomach-acid to increase. Also the cocosmilk or cocoscream is a real favorite and this soothes my stomach as nothing else.

"If as you say 75% of the population doesn't digest it..."
75% of the world population. In Southeast/East Asia, it is more than 90%. In Northern Europe, it is less than 5%. But vegans often love juggling with numbers. It characterizes their legendary natural truthfulness.
Rice-drink? Worthless plant cocktails without nutrients instead of milk? LOL Human stupidity has no borders, as Albert Einstein once said.

I'm surprised she mentioned acid reflux. I've been getting more of that. I guess it's all the sugar I'm consuming.

Everything in moderation. I like to have a succulent steak a couple times a month but I do not need it every night. People establish food rituals and they can bee too much.

I want the best diet I can, so I avoid milk, and dairy products all together. And, the amount of sugar I consume is minimal, very, very, minimal. I eat only one meal per day from 5 to 6 PM.

Please keep in mind that Dr. Wei is talking about preschool children, even infants, who mostly do not choose what they eat and drink. It is important that parents know and get the message. How many of you read food labels, particularly of baby food and drinks? People are aware of fat but think that being aware of carbohydrates is only for diabetics! It is common to see children consuming half a pound of sugar everyday. Wait until you see them developing chronic diseases when they become adults!

    • Skogsmulla32
      Skogsmulla32 Year ago +2

You are every right, I always read all the labels and that drives many people almost into insanity. 'You have no trust in any of the producers !' Yes, I do not trust any of these moneymaking foodproducers and I have good reasons for that. When not either the medical doctors care the least I must be maximal aware myself.
