Kliff Kingsbury: Cardinals’ job ‘too good of an opportunity to pass up’ | NFL Countdown

  • New Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury sits down with Sam Ponder to explain why he decided to take this job and why he's not focusing on what he's accomplished to this point, but rather what he does moving forward. Kingsbury praises Los Angeles Rams’ head coach Sean McVay for his work with the team, especially with Jared Goff, and hopes to mirror that style with the Cardinals. Kingsbury discusses his relationship with Tom Brady and when the New England Patriots quarterback contacts him.

Im not denying any of that, my original point was winning at Texas Tech under an athletic budget thats viewed as top 25 in the country is very possible. Lets not get off track here and get into a pissing contest about Okie St and TTU's budget. Kingsbury winning at TTU was my original point which I stick to, if he was a good coach he would have won more games but I wish him the best of luck at Arizona.

+Richard P. You must have missed the first article by 247 which was taken this past year. Okla State has the funds to keep SEC schools away from stealing Gundy. TT does not. Tenn tried to steal him and he stayed cause Okla State got the money. Gundy makes over 4 million a year. TT is nowhere near that.

    • Richard P.
      Richard P. 9 часов назад

That list is from 6 years ago and is only about indoor facilities, which Tech did not have one 6 years ago, they now do. I was talking about the most valuable football programs as far as athletic budgets go not booster donations from guys like Boone Pickens. Clearly OSU has money but my point being that TTU has enough resources to win as the basketball and baseball programs have shown (both top 10). Hopefully Matt Wells can do what Kingsbury could not.

L i am not going to set any expectations about this season not after what happened this last year with wilks. this hire with kingsbury was either a genius idea or horribly stupid , we will have to wait and see. but how can you say we have no talent? DJ , Kirk , Chandler Jones , maybe larry who knows , Rosen , budda baker , patrick peterson. we have the pieces there.
people got to remember before last year with more experienced coaches we went 8-8 in the NFC West with blaine gabbert our 3rd string QB at the time no running game at all with david johnson being hurt , and kerwynn williams and penny not playing up to their potential, and all the other injuries that added up as well.
we had a Rookie HC that had no input on the Offensive side of the ball with a rookie QB and a horrible injured OL , and a rookie first time play caller for more that half the season. how much can you really have expected out of this offense. on the other side of the ball we had a new defensive scheme at 4-3 , when the cards played 3-4 under arians. not to mention a rookie DC as well who was clearly inexperienced.
this year we have brought a new fresh offensive mind to help rosen out and develop behind a coach who has had much success with QBs in the past. the offense should be much more creative. and on the defensive side we brought a VETERAN DC who has had major success on the defensive side and we are going back to 3-4 which is what the cards personnel was meant to play. great hire as well.
all in all , the cardinals don’t lack talent at all and if draft right and sign the right FAs this offseason we have hope , we can be sleepers in the NFL as no one is projecting the cardinals to do much this season and is just bringing negativity to the franchise.

+Bransen Smith Having gone through the Kingsbury era '12-'16 at TTU I can say without a doubt his tenure was the greatest triumph but also the greatest heartbreak. He reinvigorated the program after Tuberville bloted out of here for Cincy gave us our identity and pride back and gave us the greatest offenses and quarterbacks Tech had seen since Harrell years. He just never solved the defense and those coordinators/recruits in CFB are at a premium for a school located on the South Plains. Just couldn't run a complete program--I challenge the declining atheltic program however. Kliffs tenure and exposure allowed for the field refurbishment, Jumbotron upgrade, Sports Performance Center opening (Huge) as well as countless other investment gifts from alumni to support a program everyone knows is on the rise. Kirby Hocutt our AD chose him, but compared to recent hires such as Chris Beard and Tim Tadlock on the baseball and basketball fronts there was simply no further excuse for shorting the defense and fanbase when the other two "big-3" sports are competing for national championships the past few seasons. Tech will be better as will Kliff I believe and he will be a force in the NFL--he already has the Broncos DC so watch out!

    • Shay Gibson
Shay Gibson 5 дней назад +1

Bransen Smith I respect your input, but in comparison to other schools in your conference there is no way Texas Tech could compete with the other programs. Most of the scholarship offers T Tech offers are declined for schools like Oklahoma or Texas.

    • Bransen Smith
Bransen Smith 5 дней назад +1

I am a current student at Texas Tech and let me tell you... while he is a great quarterback coach, he is not a very good head coach. As expressed by our last few seasons. The university had no choice but to pay up the rest of his contract and fire him due to declining sales from the athletic department because we just were not winning. A lot of our school funding comes from our football program...

    • Shay Gibson

Dont know how well hes going to do in the NFL but the thing about Kliff ignoring players is completely false. Tech fan here from Lubbock and everything Ive heard about Kliff whether itd be from media, asst coaches or players is thats hes a great man and human being. The only ever negative thing spoken about him is from Baker who seems to have an issue with a lot of folks. Dont take my word for it, take a glance at his former Tech players on social media and they all praised him when he got fired and congratulated him when he got hired at Arizona. Hes a good guy who I dont think is quite ready to be an NFL head coach but we shall see.

I hate all of these replies like this, none of which are original. It's painfully obvious who didn't watch a Cardinals game last year. Jump on that bandwagon. They were historically bad. Abysmal. Not even fun to watch. Wilks was fired because he was that bad. He took a pro bowl running back and would run him twice up the middle of a makeshift offensive line on every series. He's a pass catcher. Nothing to do with his skill set. It had nothing to do with color or how good a guy he was. He was over his head and a bad head coach. Next time watch some actual football.

Jim Harbaugh did this as well
Vic Fangio was the entire reason for that Niners Defense
And this Bears Defense which Nagy delegated
And Pagano will be delegated that duty as
      well

      Matt Nagy
      McVay were very questionable hires
And you obviously don't understand what is done nowadays
The only real downside of Kingsbury is one factor
Defense so .... He gets a good DC who handles that side what's stopping him from succeeding in the Offense?
      Delegate
Bill Belicheck is not an Offensive guy if you haven't realized
Nick Saban is not a tactical coach
They are CEO types who delegate
Matt Nagy will give the Defense to Pagano
Kliff should hire a Coordinator who will do the same
It's not about his past(and Offense didn't suffer with him so who cares for me) it's about how he fits into changing the offense and QB situation
