The Game Theorists  Year ago +8460

Ladies and gentlemen, you may have to adjust the color of your is definitely a yellow strap! Haha...I didn't realize it would be so controversial. Pull up the Wiki shot of it and it's pretty obvious.
(You can also judge based on the brown underpieces that Link wears as a part of that outfit as well, plus the little laces in front at his neck...the hat to me was the most obvious, though)
Also, just to clarify: A lot of people are saying "It's obvious it's Fallen Hero because Link wakes up in a Reincarnation Chamber." Technically, you can't use that as evidence here because the "Hero is Defeated" division is specifically related to Link losing at the end of Ocarina of Time against Ganon, NOT the battles described in BOTW.
Lastly, a lot of people are mentioning the appearance of the "Mirror of Twilight" in the form of the "Fragmented Monument." And that's a really good point, however, if you look at the "Fragmented Monument" in BOTW, its design is pretty strongly different from the Mirror, in particular the writing in an ancient language around the rim of the circle.
Could the timelines have united and this is at the end of them? That's actually what I was hoping for as I researched! Sadly, I just didn't feel like there was enough evidence to support that. When I stopped to look at all the evidence together as well as how Eiji Aonuma was talking about this game leading up to its launch, it felt like the team INTENDED this to be a return to that first timeline while making nods to the other games.

  • Chriss Lee
    Chriss Lee Day ago

I know I'm super late to the party, but the 'Zora-to-Rito' evolution makes sense if you look at the context of the game.
The zora are considered to be 'fish-like' people because of their heads, but if you look at how their bodies are structured and the obvious fact that they can breathe both water /and/ air, able to get out and hang out on dry land for a while, means that they're actually more akin to frogs, ie, they're amphibians. They even grow from a 'tadpole' state after hatching and ultimately become more humanoid as they mature.
They aren't fully aquatic, and not to mention they are a fresh-water species. They are used to a compartmentalized area, a single lake, that keeps them safe from most dangers that the great sea brings in. As a last resort to protect themselves, the Zora climbed the Goron's mountain and were met with Valoo, the dragon deity sitting on top of the volcano, who offered them his scales to help them live on land. These scales are more than likely what caused a rapid succession of evolutionary states to the Zora until they were more avian. And this ritual of going up to get the scale from Valoo is seen in the game. It's how young Rito get their wings, meaning they're still going through the process of fully evolving into the full bird race we see in BOTW.

    Jgamer 205 2 days ago

Everyone you think that just because ganondorf is around in botw2 this theory is debunked. Though the evidence against it doesn’t mean that this is debunked. it could be ganon with no more reincarnation using his last life to return to his ocarina of time body. This means that the game could be focused on ganondorf trying to find another way to regain immortality and his ganon form. The music was in reverse in the trailer maybe he is manipulating some form of magic to reverse the time on his old body so that it becomes normal ganondorf and his last life can inhabit it and bring him back for one last attempt of reincarnation.

The only possible explanation i could come up with for why the zora evolved into birds, during hyrule being completely submerged in water, would be because there were far more dangerous/capable species in the sea than the zora which meant the zora had to find a new home/landscape to adapt to and survive in.

The spectacle rock point felt a little meh to me. Spectacle rock is at the far top right section of LTTP, whereas in BOTW, it’s all the way near the Gerudo desert. How that geographical land piece could move that way is beyond me, however this could be just a result of Nintendo adding in an Easter egg with no real bearing and how it looked relative to LTTP.
at the end of the day, I think that sums up this game’s timeline placement. i don’t think it was truly meant to have a spot, but just be a game that celebrates and encompasses all Zelda games in some way.

I believe that Breath of the wild combines all the time lines into one. It's almost like a reset of the time line with references to previous games. Also, The new Breath of the wild 2 trailer kind of disproves the failed hero time line theory because we can see Ganondorf. If it had to be in one of the timelines I would have said The Hero's Victory time line because of all the evedince and the new BoTW 2 trailer.

To be fair, another hint towards the Failed Hero Timeline is the literal fact that Link is sealed in the Shrine of Resurrection because he was about to die after failing the fight. It really isn't too hard to come to the Failed Hero Timeline conclusion tbh, though I never noticed Link's hat lol

Edit: Also, Zelda saying that Ganon gave up on resurrection was a mistranslation from Japanese to English. "This form was born from his obsessive refusal to give up on revival…" is more closely translated to what Zelda was actually saying (

    • Samantha Backman
      Samantha Backman Day ago

@fawls13 But in BOTW, we aren't talking about regular Ganon: instead we have Calamity Ganon. If the mummy beneath the castle where Calamity Ganon was defeated is, in fact, Ganondorf, then that could simply mean Calamity Ganon "reincarnated" (or perhaps reversed) into Ganondorf out of a lack of any other body; however, as he is mummified, he has likely been there a long while, in which case I'm not sure what that would mean since that would indicate two Ganons in one time.

Besides that, in the beginning of BOTW, Link wakes up in the Shrine of Resurrection. We later find out that Zelda asked for him to be placed there, gave the Master Sword to the Deku Tree for him to protect until Link woke up, and went to use her power to seal Calamity Ganon away as long as she could to give Link time to recover from his wounds that he sustained from failing to defeat Calamity Ganon. Of course the reason he failed was because of Calamity Ganon defeating the other four and taking control of their Divine Beasts, but it still stands to reason that Link indeed failed. Thus the Failed Hero Timeline.

I'm not arguing against you and saying there is no proof that the mummy beneath the castle in BOTW2's trailer was Ganondorf, I'm simply saying that if it was, I don't know how such a thing would be explained. My best guess would be that, when Link and Zelda defeat Calamity Ganon in the end of the game, BOTW is shifted from the Failed Hero Timeline to that of the Adult Timeline or something of that nature.

Edit: Also, why comment this under my comment? I feel as if this would be better suited for a general comment under the video itself...

@Vladimir Pudding the are u insane part is unnecessary, there's not much for it I actually with matpat however based on the botw 2 trailer it got me thinking. Most of it is pure speculation but I can connect 2 or three of the dots to but it simple were game theory considers it to be then end eons after the end of each time line I have thought that maybe the hyrule in botw is the land or kingdom that the goddess hylia took some land and shot it up in the sky to later become sky loft

    • Vladimir Pudding
Vladimir Pudding 3 days ago +1

Before Skyward Sword? Are you insane?? How could be it be before Skyward Sword if Ganon already exist? Ganon and even Ganondorf himself did not exist before Skyward Sword. Heck, he did not even exist before Minish Cap which is the next game in the timeline. Not to mention that there wasn't a Hyrule kingdom before Skyward Sword. So how did BoTW take place before Skyward Sword? And what "evidence" are you referring to?
