"Stevie's Aliens" by Austin S. Harris
A skeptical high school student is thrown into a night of adventure after he sees a UFO.
Greg, a high school student and aspiring writer, finds out that he has been rejected from his top choice writing school. His confident and science-oriented girlfriend, Julia, encourages him to get his mind off of the bad news by accompanying her to a concert that night and Greg, now a dejected mess, agrees.
Greg goes home and begins to look through a box of his stories, going back to his childhood, that he keeps under his bed. Just as he’s beginning to enjoy reminiscing he gives himself a paper cut, which prompts him to throw the entire box of stories away.
On his way to the concert, Greg has an unexplainable encounter with a bright light that seems to be a UFO. He meets Stevie, another high school student who seems to know more about the light, and the two discover that Greg’s paper cut has vanished. Stevie brings Greg back to his house, and perform a deep-thinking ritual that Stevie has pioneered to summon the light. Meanwhile, Julia, who has gone to Greg’s house to look for him, returns home and begins reading a book about UFOs in response to a strange text Greg sends her about his encounter. She leaves a voicemail for Greg saying that she doesn’t believe in UFOs.
Greg and Stevie successfully summon the light, which makes the electronics in Stevie’s room go haywire, but because Julia was reading the book, her electronics are affected too. Seeing the connection between Greg’s text and what happened in her room, she goes to Greg’s house to investigate, where she sees Greg walking with Stevie, guided by a device Stevie is holding. She watches from behind a tree as Greg, now with a renewed sense of optimism, takes his stories out of the trash. She follows the two of them to a large hill, and confronts Greg. Greg convinces her to take a chance on something science can’t prove, and she accepts.

Cliffhanger yeah love them
This was so beautiful. How did you get me to care so much about all three of these characters in such a short time? My mind keeps coming back to the soundtrack as well, it feels so uplifting and fitting.
Brilliant work, and I hope that everyone involved is getting the opportunities they deserve to do more of the same!
I have been watching this channel a lot lately. I really needed to see something new and creative. Lord knows Hollywood is just gonna keep making crap.
What was that box with the blue light on a rod anyway?
Felt like a cheap rip-off of early Steven Spielberg: Close Encounters, ET, Poltergeist. Was hoping for more originality, and character motives for the way they interacted. "Disappointed"
2 stars. Nothing good EVER comes from tying yourself up with speaker wire. And, what were they looking at?
You know what would have been nice in a film called "Stevie's Aliens"???? Aliens....
Am I the only one noticing the sound is out of sync?
where was sci-fi? ... this is stupid ... the movie industry is flooded with this shit ... next time make a movie that something happend in it
The story was great, but... The lack of proper ending is becoming increasingly annoying.
"Humanity is approaching a very dangerous and very important time in its collective development. You are on the verge of emerging into a Greater Community of intelligent life. You will be encountering other races of beings who are coming to your world seeking to protect their interests and to discover what opportunities may lie ahead. They are not angels or angelic beings. They are not spiritual entities. They are beings who are coming to your world for resources, for alliances and to gain an advantage in an emerging world. They are not evil. They are not holy. In that, they are also much like you. They are simply driven by their needs, their associations, their beliefs and their collective goals.
This is a very great time for humanity, but humanity is not prepared."
- Excerpt from Allies of Humanity Book 1, by Marshall Vian Summers.
Ok.....so where's the ending???
Awesome. Watch it. Nuff said.
Very enjoyable short!
Everyone else has gone into all of the technical stuff and usual critiques. I will just say keep doing what you're doing and you will make some truly great films!
Pretty good for a student project.
Great work!
Good stuff...
Its incomplete darn it.
I enjoyed this short such potential.
I liked it. But you can go up that hill to meet the aliens but I can tell you it's not gonna work. They won't show up. I tried it over and over. Up on hills. On the roof. Even played Blue Oyster Cult "Take Me Away" over and over. They just won't come. But I liked this movie very much.
8:30 That is so cool I want to do that too
The pacing sucks on this one...could only watch the half of it.
Permit me one small quibble. 11:00 this traditional metronome works off of a coiled spring, not electricity or magnetism.
the comment section is flooded with dark-skinned HUMANS which by the way is against humanity subconsciously
What is the name of that song at 5:07
Bit much "i want to believe" on this channel. Really not needed. Building on a very immature concept, I toss something up in the air that you don't know what is and it is an UFO. We don't need this pushed. Extraterrestrial life is something entirely different. UFO stories build upon like this video that aliens visit earth just isn't needed as everything we need to know lie in evolution and the vastness of space. And our current knowledge of space, which is abysmal. Yet enough to nearly state it is a fact that there must be life out in space. It is just a matter of time, we don't need the subject deluded into UFO's that adhere to the dwindling intelligence of humans which again feed our wasted time. We should have colony on mars now, but we prefer to wage war on each other and all the other wondrous things human spend their lives doing. Like praying for miracles from above instead of lifting a single finger to solve problems themselves.
DO NOT DEGRADE YOURSELF WITH UFO STORIES.
dialog got me really cringe. You don't response like that if it was real life situation
acting is on amateur level
looks like the film budget ran out towards the end there.
Could you please stop putting the black bars into the videos? Just upload the video in its real aspect ratio. It's awful to watch on ultrawide screens
Really good production. Talented work all around.
Great acting and well played!! A feature film would be awesome........with these actors in it!!
I love all your short Films!
Okay Close Encounters of the Obama kind, tell us WTF happened ?
Uhm
....... I dont think anyone knows this but ur supposed to wrap hrself in copper wire attached to a eltrical source and crystals to be able to connect with aliens or spirits
STUPID! TERRIBLE ACTORS!!🙄🙄🙄
Bogus
Well that was a very pleasant surprise! This was really good, not knowing what was going to happen, WOW!!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿The acting was spot on, and the cinematography was GREAT!!!! Love the ending to! Really, really, happy with story and all!!! 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
So nobody clicks the black kid....
Huh?
What amazing Channel!!!! THIS Channel should be more popular.
Thanks Norton, we're getting there :)
Colective autosugestion...leading into beliaf...
Really great science fiction short with excellent actors. Awesome story line. The music score was good but needs more of that cinematic mix (more mid-bass & bass). Everything else is perfect.
This video is about a town who has too much chromium in their water and they all go crazy and develop schizophrenia.
This would actually make a great movie.. much more believable than most and with love, geekiness all wrapped up into one.. Not sure why all the downthumbs..
I agree that it would make a great movie, but I fear Hollywood would ruin it. They'd focus on teen angst, extend the emotional turmoil over the love interest, lose the significance of his early art work, leave the box in the recycling, and bury the SF as irrelevant; probably ending the story at the same point, but with the love interest Not going with him. Bleah!
5:07 Is that a pipe on her stereo? That would explain some of this story. (Space aliens smuggling in some cosmic gak)...
The only thing lacking is part 2.
So... there's a part 2 coming, right?
PAPER DOESNT GO IN THE BLUE TRAAASH !! 😂
The opening shop, epic!
um yeah....okay then. entertaining but incomplete
why on the end aliens didnt appear?this was not good for me,but overall it was a nice short...
Thankyou for providing subtitles
What was that all about? No action, no nothing! I expect a lot more from DUST‼️
Maybe you should go watch a Fast & Furious movie then.
That was awesome!
Why can't that happen to me?
Soooo gaaaay...
Look, I'm a Dust subscriber. The first 20 videos were awesome! Since then, it's been 80% chick flicks, gay crap, but I'll still subscribe. I love science, but I've blocked all the big time science channels because they don't know shit.
Summoning demons!!
Anyone else hear hints of "back to the future" in the soundtrack?
I was so into this... This is great... This is great... This is... Over? ... ... ... AUGHHH! WHERE'S THE REST OF IT!
The first thing on Dust that I have absolutely loved, and it gets cut off. Don't get me wrong, I still love it, but now I'm going to be constantly trying to remember which movie I didn't get to see the end of.
Yeah, this really feels unfinished. Not quality-wise, but there's just no climax. It was great and I was super curious about where the story would go... and then it doesn't.
Very well done. Thank You.
+Kent Krueger I rather enjoy being a crazy old fart that lives on the tiny island that is called the Garden of Eden. Everything is good. There is no anger, hate, sadness, and trouble. There are no politically correct bigots, insane liberals, and conservative terrorists making the world safe with war, violence, and anarchists to tell me how I am supposed to feel, think, live and exist.
You're easily amused...
A really nice, character-driven, piece with great production quality; the soundtrack in particular really sold key points in the plot. Although the two-year-old in me wanted some kind of payoff to wrap the whole thing up at the end, I can't say that I didn't enjoy the ride. A good one for sure!
Most of the time the acting and dialogue in these short films leaves a lot to be desired. This short film has excellent acting and good dialogue. I want to know more about these characters.
Did I miss something? Bcse all I seen was that they ended up on top of a hill. Is there are part 2?
That's the point.
I agree? I have no idea what happened? It was great until it ended.
Let Netflix buy this, this is on par with their stupid non ending movies...
The 'shorts' from dust are the best entertainment I've ever found on the web.
This one included. The skills and creativity demonstrated surpass many box-office films.
When will filmmakers realize that a legible soundtrack is as vital to a movie as the visuals?
Well another worthless movie here. People are crazy and think any lights are UFO's great. Stevie is just sharing his magic "Dust" with them. I know these are hopefuls to get picked up but put an ending in your movies please!
Wow that was pretty cool and the acting was exceptional. Great short Dust.
Music by Jon Williams? Gives good theatrical feel.
Rich Kosack Best compliment I could ever get. Thank you!
Nice one! Let's see more like this!
🖖 fantastic short.... really enjoyed it 👍
And she loves Neo Soul... She's a keeper! #neosoul #Philadelphia
what song is that playing by nic hanson?
I was just going to say there same thing!
Great plot, great acting! More, please...
Loved this! Finally black people in a sci-fi movie!
Where have you been the last 50 years?
With a so-called black man with a so-called black woman in a loving caring relationship I watched it for that reason along....Thank you I am sick of swirling
human categorize themselves, let's break whatever harmony is left - Mr. Jabba the Alien from his sweet little hut
Syd...4th of July, Black Panther etc. Blockbusters!
David Stoyanoff 😂
Spoilers!
Sometimes you watch a story where nothing really happens. Most of the time, that's disappointing and boring. Somehow, I liked this one. "Garden State" was a feature length film (with Natalie Portman) where not much happened, but it had a kind of 'small story charm'. This one felt similar. Not all stories are epics, nor do they need to be. It was well shot, well acted, well written. The dubbing was a little obvious in parts, but that's tricky even for big budget productions.
People constantly complain about Hollywood stories all being the same, yet they complain when they're given something different. This was different. If you want "Close Encounters", it's out there and we don't need another version of it. If you don't need every story to be huge, then this one is a little gift. Kudos! :)
What an amazing film! You can really tell how much thought went into the direction through the subtle references to the sci-fi films that have preceded it. That scene where he encounters the UFO is insane. Can't believe that was made on a student film budget! I think my biggest takeaway that really sets this film apart from a typical student filmmaker alluding at their love for Spielberg, is the representation of POC. POC are practically non exist in the sci-fi genre/genre films in general and it's so refreshing to see a young filmmaker changing this. Someone should get this guy in touch with Jordan Peele!
what song is playing sounds like nic hanson?
I was hoping for something good one and a half out of five stars
Enjoyed the film and very believable too. Cute girlfriend or Aliens. Errr Aliens. Haha. I like how they all meet up and confront their experiences.
well done but BORING. missing substance. watched to end. wished i had not.
Nothing really happened. There's no resolution. It's not even an open ending because there's nothing to guess.
Like an 80's syfi movie.
Common DUST, what was that?! You're better then that.....
Now there's a great example of both "suspension of disbelief" and "Present mindedness". Interesting short. Good job Austin S. Harris!!! :)
ehhhh suh
I've subscribed the "dust" although I am allergic to it!!
That was alright.
very slow, badly dubbed, no story, some things make no sense, sorry dust, this is a bad one for me
I really enjoyed this film! The ADR was off but it's also one the HARDEST things in post-production to get right so I'm not even giving them flack for it.
I love that Dust gives such a wide variety of filmmakers a platform!!
More please!
This was a great one. simple and subtle. Good acting, well shot. Now go and make that feature.
I think they're doing fine as it is. Science fiction has always worked really well in short story form, as demonstrated by the esteemed Ray Bradbury. These guys rock for picking up that torch. :)
UFO be an unexplainable experience, just enjoy it ^w^
Poltergeists?
+JBIRD NELSON racisssssss
Perfect film

Awesomeness... loved all these characters🥰
Siempre será fascinante la idea de la posibilidad de que no estemos solos en el universo.
Thanks dust!
Woo another film from Dust! So excited.
Most of them suck
Nice movie bravo👏👏
