Watership Down was never made or marketed as a child's cartoon, it was made as an adults cartoon. Also if you find the cartoon scary then don't read the book. For those who do think of reading the book is found in the teenage section of a bookstore not the child's section.

Also i never found any of these 10 scary even as a kid, found some of them shocking when i was an adult and realised what was going on but not scary.
Dumbo just put me off ever getting drunk and found it a good message to kids about not drinking, i still don't fancy seeing pink elephants

The opening scene of a 1995 french film "City of Lost Children" was pretty disturbing to me. One of the most unsettling scenes in cinema reminiscent of the silent film ,Un Chien Andalou(1928), by Luis Buñuel and artist Salvador Dali, except with a cacophonic audio which magnifies the surrealist nightmare effect. Still, an overall riveting and enjoyable story told in a unique style . With an opening scene as intense as that expect more throughout to the very end. I would buy this for my personal film library just for its visual originality and fx!.-ru-clip.com/video/POxn5z-8Tb8/видео.html

I agree with all picks except Dumbo, Secret of Nimh, Charlie and the chocolate factory, fantasia, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and especially The Never Ending Story. All of those made my childhood. I actually only really find Watership Down to have been creepy and nightmarish. I was scared of my own pet bunny for a week lol. The Dark Crystal was my favorite movie growing up as was Labyrinth. Maybe I was just a creepy child lol who knows. Lol
Gotta love the commentary about overgrown public hair lol

I REFUSED to watch the Dark Crystal when i was little. Everything about it was unsettling to me and just gave the chills and freaked me out. When they’d put it on in Day Care i would get soooo blew😂😂😂 I still wouldn’t watch it to this day...watching the clips gave me that same feeling from when i was a kid.
I loved the PeeWee movie when i was a kid lol. Very entertaining and iconic, loved everything about it. I think the truck driver jump scare was wayyyy more creepy/scary than the clown one. Don’t even remember the clown scene. Definitely was a more memorable part in the movie in my opinion. Great list though as always

The creepiest is not on the list: Felidae (1994)!!! seemed like a fun cat animation to my parents, that left me alone watching this. the story evolves from being a crime detective story, where a lot of cat murders happen that have to be solved, to crazy scientist experiments and a cat cult, where members are being killed with electroshocks when they do not comply. oh and did I mention that the story then peaked in a detailed sex scene where the main character cat basically casually rapes a lady cat by biting her in the neck... not disturbing at all...

To understand why the creepy movies marketed for kids from the 70's - mid - 80's were made, one must understand generational theory. It was a time of urban decay and the baby boomer directors didn't think anything was wrong about psychologically disturbing their Gen-X kids childhoods.
That's why our generation goes out of our way in this era to make the most sensitive kid friendly movies possible for today's children as a subconscious reaction to those times.
