Anybody here use trackball for 3D design software like Solidworks or Revit?

  • Вяленая скрибятина

Using it for over half a year. You'll have to clean these nubs around a ball from once to twice a month, depends on how dirty your hands are. If you'll approach it the lazy way i.e. just removing grime with a brush, the ball will tend to stuck more after cleaning. But once began rolling it will require less force to proceed.
You'll need a couple of weeks to adapt. Also LED hum is audible. Other than that, it is good.

Tried, yes it is a strange thing, but it is very convenient in Resolve where the same trackballs are used. And absolutely not for shooters, for strategies can be.

The trackball is BACK? Where did it go? I've been using trackballs since 386 computers were state-of-the-art. I don't know why anybody would want to push a mouse all over the place, when they can just thumb their balls. An M570 has been my weapon of choice for years. That new model doesn't even look like it's contoured as nicely for a hand. I'm so used to mine, it feels like another extension of my body!

Ok, old video. Not really expecting my comment to be noticed... But here goes any-hoot.

I first learned and practiced using a trackball on Doom. (Yes, the first Doom, on Win 3.11.) But, it was a finger moved trackball. I could do continuous movement by walking with my index and middle fingers. Probably because of what I used, I was never able to get used to the thumb moved trackballs like this Ergo.

In these modern times, however, I have found a trackball that fits my needs. The Elecom Huge (yes... that is it's name). If you go to the manufacturer's page you will either need to read Japanese, or apply your favorite web translator, but here it is: www.elecom.co.jp/products/M-HT1DRBK.html
It is available on Amazon for (currently) under $60USD, just search for ELECOM M-HT1DRBK

I own the MX Ergo for a while and except of the learning curve it is really good! Today I've got so much pain that I thrown away my normal mouse and just get used to the trackball and now I really experience the pro's of this mouse. Have been thinking of trading it for a vertical normal L+R mouse, but I think this one is waay better.

Linus...Logitech never stopped making Track balls. The M570 has been around and consistently sold every year since around 2008. I've bought several over the years, new, from big box stores after the whole mouse degrades, including the buttons (not the actual click thing underneath, but the actual plastic I touch loosening up over the years from heavy gaming).

This was just the only "new" trackball design they had crafted in years.

  • DS 4 Productions

I do music production with dual monitors and the M570 trackball mouse is my favorite mouse to use. Being able to give the ball a good slap to send the pointer flying across one monitor to another is the fastest and only way to roll - pun intended lol. I’ve not had any complaints covering the larger ground of the dual monitors and I find it’s shape and design quite comfortable even after several hours of nonstop use.

Some of us need a trackball because the way mice work creates problems with Carpal tunnel. I used the original logitech units, and the mx570, but tracking speed was lacking in those so I switched to an Elecom EX6, which is on par with a gaming mouse in terms of DPI. Where it sucks, is in battery life. The mx570 would last forever on one AA battery, but I am constantly replacing the battery on the EX6. The EX6 does have a sniper toggle, but unlike the mx ergo, it is a momentary switch. The EX also has a dedicated switch to set the DPI lower without going into windows. The main enticements for the ergo are the long rechargeable battery and the ability to swap to a different system with a button. Also, you can find the ergo for around $60 on amazon.

I'm 23 years old. I switched from mouse to track pad, then to trackball last year. I LOVE trackballs. I personally have a giant audio console on my desk, so I really have no room to move a mouse. I've never cared much for the feel of a track pad. The trackball is just perfect to me. I wouldn't even want to go back to a mouse again.

4 months battery?! My older Logitech trackball with the blue ball lasted over a year on a battery and honestly the scroll wheel broke before the battery gave out and I had to go through their warranty service (which was extremely slow btw, I couldn't believe such a large company couldn't give timely warranty service, it took like over a months to get it replaced). Also I tested out one of these before in store, I still prefer the older model, a lot more ergonomic.

I used the logitech m570 for a couple of years, but I hated that it would start to have problems after 6-9 months and went through two of them. I did ask logitech in 2018 if they had a wired version and they said they didn't so I decided to go off the main stream and went with and elecom EX-G the cord is about 5 feet long and the ball that came with it started having tracking problems after the first 10-15 min of use. However, I put the ball from the m570 in it and it tracked very well. The down side being that the ball was a tight fit, its been about 3 months since then and the ball works very well now. I've used trackballs for classwork, gaming, and regular web browsing. The length it took me to get used it a track ball in the beginning was about 1-2 days and even in the first 6 hours of the first day it became comfortable. I originally got a trackball out of necessity, I don't have a desk and do all my computer stuff off of my bed, my mouse rests on a book with a mouse pad, but because the book can shift. A normal mouse can easily slip off.

I use a 2 monitor setup for video editing and use this mouse. Turn on acceleration, and turn up the sensitivity, and instead of sliding your thumb and moving your hand, simply flick the ball and the mouse moves. It's crazy! haha BUT! This thing absolutely saved my wrist. On my old traditional mouse I was starting to lose grip strength and at one point was unable to game after a day of work. This solved all of that. I'm never going back to a traditional mouse after converting to the trackball. Even the vertical mice suck b/c instead of clicking, you tend to micro-select and drag whatever you're trying to click on.
