  • Hi guys, welcome to my 4 part series exploring . I'm pretty tired of constantly being praised for 'breaking the stereotype' just because I'm a Muslim woman who happens to be successful. This should be the NORM! We are so much more than just breaking a stereotype. If we change the way we're represented then the more likely we will be seen for what we truly are, successful, determined and most importantly decent people who come from a diverse multi talented background. is all of these brilliant characteristics. If you like to go down that route lets look at the age of Mary when she married Joseph and the age of Rebekkah when she married Isaac?

Just to be clear Islam does not condone child marriages. Get me one quote from the Quran to support you theories? Thought not.

So? If thats the source you wish to follow then good luck. You are free to do so. I can spring a few out of the bible and can choose selectively also. I also read about the killing of civilians in Africa by christian extremists and some of the brutal goings on there. But to be clear every country/community has good and bad. As for the victim complex i was being facetious. I can hold my own so you are spared 😊

Dina, I look at the amount of likes on this video and I feel proud of you. I also feel proud of you looking at the amount of dislikes on this video. These dislikes only highlight the kind of hostile and close-minded sphere that you are trying to spread your positive message in. I have a feeling that there will be less and less negativity towards videos with this kind of message in the future, but it will be only because you, and other muslim women like you, have paved the way for others to be themselves without fear.

I don't understand why this video has so much hate. People decide to look at all the negative aspects of everything and have such a closed mind. They are trying to spread a positive message and they are being real. Stop hating and open your mind to different perspectives and ideas. You commenting a hate comment will not do anything but spread negativity. We need more love in this world and less hate. Great job Dina I love this series! Its such a cool concept and very interesting! I learnt a lot thank you 😊

Hyaatt M Maybe it has something to do with the fact these 4 are still learning about their own culture and can't even agree on most of it, Yet think they are going to educate us on something they really know hardly anything about. Like when they talk about everyone wearing headwear in Palestine? It's like 50 degrees over there everyday alot of them were it to keep cool, has nothing to do with their religion. Dina sees scarfs but n just assumes oh all these people are religious. Then spreads her false education onto us... Also when she basically forces the guy to eat their food cause it's tradition n disrespectful to her culture if he doesn't. Ya don't see me bringing her into mine n forcing her to eat pork sausages do ya? Which are a British tradition!! I bet that wouldn't go down well tho, I would b offending her culture. What about our culture but? Ya know the Christians who's country she's living in. People seem to have forgot that yeah? I will stop judging her actions when I can fly a union Jack in Syria without any fear of losing my head. We have no rights over there, They have it all handed to them here. It isn't racist wondering why they can do so much when we can do so little in their country's.

102 marshman so the shootings in America, the cases regarding Jimmy saville and many more? What do they not have a stance too it shouldn't be made into religions. Bombings, rape is a despicable act and they deserve to throw away the key. Rape, killings, mass shootings are wrong full stop whether your black, brown, white, purple! Human rights....NOT....your religion, my religion. Good and bad people in all religions!

We all know that in a Muslim country young people would not be allowed to behave like these Muslims in Britain. Even in Britain, girls have been killed by their parents for shaming the family by behaving in what is perceived to be a non-islamic manner. These videos are therefore disingenuous and misleading.

I enjoyed this :) Thanks Dina I do think having an open mind is good but I also think that sometimes being too accepting of the things our sisters may want to do that may not be seen as "Islamic" can in some cases have a negative affect on the sisters who do practice in a more orthodox manner. I stopped wearing makeup and some say this is extreme, look at all the Muslims who do why be so extreme? Or I try my hardest not to listen to music, people say whow chelsey why so serious all the Muslims I know listen to music!...So although we want to love our sisters in Islam and motivate them to be happy and achieve their goals we must try to find a balance with saying this may not be "Islamic" but its her choice as well I think it would be extremely beneficial to show the beauty and success from women who practice in a much more orthodox manner. Maybe a successful niqabi or a business owner or human rights activist. Im a Muslim, mom, wife, designer, artist and a student of Islam. #youraveragemuslim

Chiara I completely agree with you. I'm not saying Islam is bad at all ,I do support Islam and the ideology behind it is good. But I dislike how some people misinterpretate some parts. But yes we do live in a very sexist society really and everyone seems to always be divided no matter what gender or religious orientation.
But yes you've been very polite. Thanks for voicing your views and opinions etc. Tbh it's great to take onboard other people's opinions and sometimes we can be suprised on what we can learn if we all just sit and listen to one another without all the racism and sexism etc.
Been nice chatting to someone who has clearly got a much higher iq then some of the people here in the comment section haha :-)

    • Chiara
      Chiara 4 years ago

I guess every woman has her reasons behind the decision to wear it ( and yes, for someone it could be because "it's tradition"). And yes it was already part of the pre-Islamic cultures( the burqa for what I read existed way before Islam was born) so I can understand what you are trying to say.
I firmly believe that we live in a very sexist world and that culture is still very much oriented at shaming women and holding men on a personal and this definitely has to change.
Point is separating what religion actually teaches vs cultural expectations imo.
On another note, I'm glad to find someone that can argue in a polite way and not just insult others:)

    • GisGos
      GisGos 4 years ago

Chiara the reason why now people want too is because it's so familiar with people as a symbol of their faith that they now choose to wear it to show that they are apart of the Islamic faith. Unfortunately it did originally come from many years of it being forced on women to the point where it's now a symbol of their religion. I don't hate it and I never will but the backstory behind it and why it's become basically a symbol for them isn't right really.

Yea lots of other religions cover up and I bet even some of them could of been forced. As I said I don't hate the scarf or the religion. I just disagree with the sexism and inequality that has taken part a lot in the past and unfortunately still exists today.

So many negative comments. Screw the lot of you tbh, you just want us to either be swept off to the side and do our thing out of sight, quietly, and allow your stereotypes of us to become your truth. Fuck that. We have a voice, and Dina's doing a great job amplifying it to the general public. If you guys don't like seeing people of a different background and faith sharing their opinions and hobbies and lives publicly, yet claim to love and uphold democratic values, you're full of shite.

      A) That is simply untrue. We are employees, students, entertainers etc just like anyone else. We may sometimes tend to live in communities, but that's true of any minority. Even white people do it - have you ever been to suburbia? 99% affluent white people. B) I'm not from Pakistan. But yeah, this is the West. Where people are free to practice their beliefs and cultures, as long as you don't harm anyone and obey the law of the land. Which is what most Muslims do.

Hey Dina, I have huge admiration for you and can appreciate the way you portray yourself and your views. I wanted to point something out in this video that has always bugged me. Im Egyptian, and my dad's side of the family is muslim as where my moms side is Christian. I was raised in a Christian house hold with obviously the Arab culture consisting of both religions and just normal customs from Egypt. The big difference though is I was raised in Europe and the US. The problem I see in this video I see in my family, extended family, and friends. This debating over what is right according to religion or customs when in fact it is all a personal choice, so why waste time on debating something that is a personal choice when almost 90% of the time you won't be able to sway the other person because of that fact alone. And this is where the problem arises even more. Arab families are so busy with debating what they think is right or Haram, that they don't stop to think what makes a good person regardless of religion. Because there are obviously good ppl in all sorts of religions and cultures and it isn't because of what they deem right because of religion. But I believe because they started to think beyond religion and see ppl as ppl for what they are, and thats what happened in the Enlightenment area. Now a days in the west, therapy, self reflection, taking responsibility, and applying change is a huge part of their culture compared to what I have seen in Egypt back in Cairo. And that is because ppl are always too busy arguing over religion and culture when they need to stop and think about ppl as ppl.

Just a thought, obviously I'm not right its just something I have observed myself.

You are so wise mainly because you can think completely outside of your self and are very open minded. Earth has been around for billions of years and yet humans have only been around for 10,000 years. Christianity has only been around for 2000 years and Islam a lot shorter. What I'm trying to say is, people try and condemn each other for what is right but fuck, what a waste of time when you truly think about our planet and our world. People used to live without religion or a diety. Japanese are shinto and do not have a god or a prophet. They are some of the most peaceful and respectful people in the world. (I am of course excluding WWII as it is now 2017). All this pointless arguing that muslims do with each other or christians is just one big fucking waste of time.

Also, I think people are losing focus on important things and making them seem trivial. Nowadays more are concerned about trying to fit Islam around their life rather than fit their life around Islam

flashclynes the prophet did not marry a 6 year old nor did he marry an 8 year old , unless you're a historian also pipe down. Secondly have you read the Quran ? Have you read quotes by the prophet and his family ? Or do you just ignore the thousand good ones and focus on the 'bad' ones and take them out of context .
Look at history in the west , Catholics v protestants and how the Catholics were killed , it's the same barbaric acts that Isis are committing today so don't just say Islam started it , everyone in history used a sword . The prophet only used it in defence, he allowed Christians and Jews to be Christians and Jews and have their own places of worship so don't talk about things you don't know

AzerGhost16 and Isis, al Qaeda and the taliban have killed more Muslims than non Muslims so pipe down and you be the open minded one

You Tube the profit had sex with a 9 year old but it okay because of the context. You condone pedophilia as long as there's context. You've just showed me how sick you are. Lol

Brown Boi you don't know the well known story of Mohammad marring a 6 year old and having sex with her when she was 9 ?

Have you ever read the Koran?
It's full of calls for violence against not believers.

It's truly a book of war.

Brown Boi Islam is incompatible with Christianity and western culture. You have nothing convincing to say about Islam so you have resorted to name calling. I don't need to name call as I know Mohammed married a six year old and had sex with her when she was 9. That says it all.
