Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal-every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

@Amaris Sanchez same
@gizmotech Same here i just watched it on Disney+
@Amaris Sanchez Bro i watch Encant whitout paying any amount of money
This song is depressing .
A song about caterpillars changing with the world and maturing into butterflies shouldn’t hurt this much.
It's also about letting go because you need to move onto tomorrow. But yeah I get you
Es la verdad
I think Sebastian Yatra and Lin Manuel Miranda owe a public apology for reckless emotional damages
But it does!
@Tori That first part sounds like LaLaLand
“It’s just a song about caterpillars,” I say to myself while sobbing uncontrollably
But they loved each other and now they have to say goodbye!!!! TT A TT
I'm right there with you. So much passion. And I barely understand it!
Your crying because pedro sacrificed himself for them.
@Khanh Huynh why?
While everybody is in love "We don't talk about Bruno", THIS is the song that runs on repeat in my home. It's just so beautiful and poetic; it brings a smile to my face every time, despite the sadness of that scene in the movie.
I start crying every time I hear it 🥲
I don’t understand the hype for we don’t talk about Bruno but I don’t understand how this song is so underrated
me to
I love this but sometimes I cry to it
agree
same! This was the first song I downloaded from the album before the others. When it played in the movie, I was captivated right away.
THIS SONG DESERVES TO WIN THE OSCAR.
I’m sooooo---> glad the Spanish version was used in the movie and was submitted instead of the English version that appeared during the credits! Way to go Disney- INCLUSION!
Ikr
It definitely does

Now
Nuestro milagro, nuestro milagro...
Juan in Los angele
Gracias 😊
Google lied to me
It said it meant Two catapults in love
He stays up at night and early in the morning
full of hunger
They regularly travel by boat around the world
which is constantly changing and evolving
sailing around the world
which is constantly changing and evolving
Two small worms stop in the air
How they hugged someone emotionally
They grew up, they didn’t know when
find parts
the weather is constantly changing
They are not divided
the weather is constantly changing
Oh, slingshot, never to be repeated
You need to break up and come back
Go for it
Miracles are coming, helmets are coming
You must let go of your own future
Oh, slingshot, never to be repeated
You need to break up and come back
Go for it
Miracles are coming, helmets are coming
You must let go of your own future
two caterpillars meditating
In two hot glasses
and new dreams
All that’s left is to do something important
The world is constantly changing
its walls were torn down
This is our miracle
our miracles
our miracles
our miracles
Oh, butterfly, I can't handle that
You need to break up and come back
Go for it
These are miracles that destroy the helmet
You fly, you look
your own future
Oh butterfly, I can't handle that
You need to break up and come back
Go for it
These are miracles that destroy the helmet
You fly, you look
your own future
Oh butterfly, I can't handle that
You need to break up and come back
Go for it
These are miracles that destroy the helmet
You fly, you look
your own future
Yo: Esta vez no me vas a hacer llorar, Disney.
Disney: Dos Orugitas
Lol
Me a few weeks ago: There’s no way this movie will get me that attached to it’s music.
Me now: *AY, MARIPOSAS!* 😩
me to lol
Same here 🤣 AY MARIPOSAS!
OMG so accurate!!!! I dont even know spanish
@JBS Travel HACIA ADELANTE SEGUIRÁS
same here!!! from this Ay mariposas!!! 🤣
I feel like Lin Manuel gets a lot of (deserved) credit for the film but I want to shout out Sebastian Yatra for this beautiful performance. So much power in his voice, especially when he switches to "mariposas". Makes me tear up every time
Agreed. I love how you can hear the emotions. How he switches from like broken-hearted to hopeful and even happy.
So many communities across the globe can relate to this, even if they don’t speak Spanish or aren’t Columbian. My family is Haitian, and the imagery of forced migration in the movie plus the emotion from this song is just gut wrenching. But still I can’t stop playing this song. LMM for the EGOT!
Music is the universal language. You can't get the details unless you can speak it but you can sure get the feels
Wow didn’t even think about the migration thought of it ... yes beautiful and touching!💕 big hug to you and yours! Keep moving forward.
Sending love from de Dominican Republic, my friend❤❤❤❤
I watched Encanto in theaters after my high school best friend's funeral to lighten the mood. This part of the movie just made me cry in my seat, more than I usually do at the movies. When I recently listened to the English version and saw the flashback scene, it puts it more in the context of Abuela's husband and how they can't reunite right now but she has to learn to grow without him. Made me cry all over again missing my friend.
I’m really sorry. It’s amazing how we can connect with things like movies.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Stay strong.
Bless you, and bless your friend
Im so sorry for your loss,it mustve been really difficult...
I hope you have a really good life even though this happened
Love from Spain
I'm not Latino, I'm a Filipino but I can really connect both to Encanto and Coco. There's something in them that not only feels familiar but feels like home. You know, how they tackle family dynamics and love that got me teary eyed. There's something in Spanish language, especially in songs, that makes it feel so passionate, so emotional, so heartfelt.
DIBA?!?!?!? 😭😭😭
The Philippines was a colony of Spain. I'm Colombian btw
What about Chinese
Philippines was also a Spanish colony, so I’m sure a lot of the cultural heritage of Spain is imprinted in the Philippines also, including family dynamics and so.
@Mia Crystal True. If we can have Spanish-Filipinos why not Mexican-Filipinos?
My daughter's are bilingual, I want this to be their lullaby! I'm determined to learn this in Spanish, I already know it in English (my native language) but I'd love to be able to sing it in their dad's native tongue. Thanks Disney for the beautiful English version and the amazing sprains version ❤
I wanna learn this in Spanish just to make my musician boyfriend cringe at the fact that I don't have a singing voice, but I still wanna serenade him
that's so cute im tearing up
I watched this movie when my son was in the NICU after he was born prematurely and this song means so much to me. My baby is my miracle and this song touches my heart like no song ever has. When I listen to it I cry like a baby but it also makes me feel so thankful that both my baby and I survived after a very traumatic delivery.
hope you and your baby have a healthy life together💕🌷
🙏😊😇💜
@Liliana's Gaming Blog thank you so much 😊
@Elena Elías thank you so much for this message. It made me cry 😂 I am so glad you are well and you are a strong woman I’m sure.
I was a baby just like that. I'm 26 now. The story of my birth gives me strength when I need it. I hope your little big one can find the same in his.
Two oruguitas in love and yearning
Spend every evening and morning learnin'
To hold each other, their hunger burning
To navigate a world
That turns and never stops turning
Together in this world
That turns and never stops turning
Two oruguitas against the weather
The wind grows colder, but they're together
They hold each other, no way of knowing
They're all they have for shelter
And something inside them is growing
They long to stay together
But something inside them is growin'
Ay, oruguitas, don't you hold on too tight
Both of you know it's your time to grow, to fall apart, to reunite
Wonders await you just on the other side
Trust they'll be there and start to prepare the way for tomorrow
Ay, oruguitas, don't you hold on too tight
Both of you know it's your time to grow, to fall apart, to reunite
Wonders await you, just on the other side
Trust they'll be there and start to prepare the way for tomorrow
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
(Oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
two oruguitas, cocooned and waiting
Each in their own world, anticipating
What happens after the rearranging?
And so afraid of change
In a world that never stops changing
So let the walls come down
The world will never stop changing (Never stop changing)
Never stop changing (Never stop changing)
Ay, mariposas, don't you hold on too tight
Both of you know it's your time to go, to fly apart, to reunite
Wonders surround you, just let the walls come down
Don't look behind you, fly 'til you find your way toward tomorrow
Ay, mariposas, don't you hold on too tight
Both of you know it's your time to go, to fly apart, to reunite
Wonders surround you, just let the walls come down
Don't look behind you, fly 'til you find your way toward tomorrow
Ay, mariposas, don't you hold on too tight
Both of you know it's your time to go, to fly apart, to reunite
Wonders surround you, just let the walls come down
Don't look behind you, fly 'til you find your way toward tomorrow
(So you can listen to the spanish version while understanding it!)

Did you translate this? As a translator I have to say: my respect! Songs can never be translated 100%, but this version is even singable. Well done!
So it’s not too different from the english version. Even if it’s not the exact translation😊🤔
Thank you!!
I'm loving how Disney is incorporating more culture into their movies while still keeping it whimsical and amazing for people of all ages to watch!
You don’t need to speak Spanish to feel the emotional weight of this song … even if you don’t understand the words, you know it speaks some powerful truth.
There’s a English version. Check it out.
Exactly. That’s why this song was so powerful the first time I heard it. I could just feel the passion without even understanding the majority of the words
Yeah
FaCts,there will always be a movie that’s gets ya
My father cried while watching coco
understanding this song makes it even more special to me 🥺
I don't understand spanish, but it's a powerful song matched perfectly to equally powerful story. As a father I really wish both of my young children understand the deep meaning of the story (not yet sadly). And forget the part when I cry harder than my wife. One of the many Disney movie I'll definitely re-watch often, with family.
Absolutely
I'm not a parent yet, but I can relate to that. Cried more than anyone, and already rewatched it 4 times hahaha. I was certainly not expecting that all from the movie
No necesita otra version.
I’ve only just realised that it had the same melody as Abuela’s verse in “the family Madrigal”
“Dos oruguitas” = “we swear to always”
“Enamoradas” = “help those around us”
“Pasan sus nochss” = “and earn the Miracle”
“Y madrugadas” = “that somehow found us”
“Llenas de hambre” = “the town keeps growing”
“Siguen andando” = “the world keeps turning”
“Y navegando un mundo” = “but work and dedication”
“Que cambia, y sigue cambiando” = “will keep the miracle burning”
“Navegando un Mundo” = “and each new generation”
“Que cambia, y sigue cambiando” = “must keep the miracle burning”
@Brandon Carmichael I never thought of it that way, I really like it!
See, I disagree. To me it's more of a homage; the family keeps this melody to remember the love that started it all and to keep him with them.
And it symbolizes how she hasn't yet moved on, she wears her mourning shawl even decades later
!!! Thanks for sharing this information!
I was literally just commenting this🧡
I lost my mom to COVID in August 2021 and this song gives me the therapy and strength needed to move on. We were inseparable. I miss her everyday.
🌹🦋🌹🦋🌹🦋Sorry.
Im so sorry for your loss.
Am really sorry to hear that. May she rest in peace. I'm wishing you all the best.
"LYRICS"
Dos oruguitas enamoradas
Pasan sus noches y madrugadas
Llenas de hambre
Siguen andando y navegando un mundo
Que cambia y sigue cambiando
Navegando un mundo
Que cambia y sigue cambiando
Dos oruguitas paran el viento
Mientras se abrazan con sentimiento
Siguen creciendo, no saben cuándo
Nuestro milagro
Nuestro milagro
Nuestro milagro
Ay mariposas, no se aguanten más
Hay que crecer a parte y volver
Hacia adelante seguirás
Ya son milagros, rompiendo crisálidas
Hay que volar, hay que encontrar
Su propio futuro
Ay mariposas, no se aguanten más
Hay que crecer a parte y volver
Hacia adelante seguirás
Ya son milagros, rompiendo crisálidas
Hay que volar, hay que encontrar
Su propio futuro
Ay mariposas, no se aguanten más
Hay que crecer a parte y volver
Hacia adelante seguirás
Ya son milagros, rompiendo crisálidas
Hay que volar, hay que encontrar
Su propio futuro
My eyes keep welling up with tears while listening to this song. Music really transcends all languages and culture...
The direct english translation+spanish lyrics underneath. Hope this comment is helpful, I myself is learning Spanish and this helps a lot for me.
Two caterpillars in love
Dos oruguitas enamoradas
Spend their nights and mornings
Pasan sus noches y madrugadas
Filled with hunger they keep going
Llenas de hambre siguen andando
And navigating a world that changes and keeps changing
Navigating a world that changes and keeps changing
Two caterpillars stop the wind
Dos oruguitas paran el viento
As they hug with emotion
Mientras se abrazan con sentimiento
They keep growing they don't know when
Siguen creciendo, no saben cuando
To look for some corner the time keeps changing
Buscar algún rincón, el tiempo sigue cambiando
They're inseparable and the time keeps changing
Inseparable son y el tiempo sigue cambiando
Oh, caterpillars don't hold back anymore
Ay, oruguitas, no se aguanten más
You must grow apart and return
Forward you will continue
Miracles will come, chrysalis will come
Vienen milagros, vienen crisálidas
You must break apart
And construct your own future
Two caterpillars
Dos Oruguitas
Disoriented
desorientadas
In two buds well warmed
En dos capullos bien abrigadas
With new dreams now there's only one thing left
Con sueños nuevos, ya solo falta
To do what's necessary in the world that keeps changing
Breaking down their walls there comes our miracle
Tomando sus paredes, hay viene nuestro milagro
Oh, butterflies don't hold back anymore
Ay, mariposas, no se aguanten más
You must grow apart and return
Forward you must continue
Now there are miracles breaking chrysalis
Ya son milagros, rompiendo crisálidas
You must fly
You must find
Your own future
Thank you so much!!!
I must say "oruguitas" = "little caterpillars"
Thank you!
Thank you❤
Leave it to Lin to break everyone's hearts over caterpillars. 💙
I love how in the part where it says "Nuestro milagro" is when (in the movie) Abuela tells Mirabel that she asked Pedro for help and she says "Mirabel, he sent me you" meaning that Mirabel was her miracle
@Brenna De La Rosa ]p
2:22
Wasnt that obvious?
You're right, it must be the reason why she didn't receive a gift, it's because she's the GIFT/MIRACLE all along...?
I love that build up in the music. Really gets you in the feels.
This songs gives me chills, I’m a native Spanish speaker and hearing the lyrics while seeing Abuela’s story was heartbreaking, I sobbed throughout the whole song
The meaning of this song is so sad but beautiful. It is about two people having to leave each other in order to make sure a good and secure future for their kids. I don’t know about you but Disney did good with this song.
Devastatingly beautiful.
This may be a controversial opinion, but, i have to say it. This music is 1000 times better than we dont talk about bruno. In case, i am portuguese so i can understand the basic of the lyrics, but even if i didnt, this music has the impact to make me cry everytime i hear it. Its pure, its poetic and it represents many families situation. I would like it to be more noticed.
This song should win an Oscar. Also, I feel sorry for the Colombians who were displaced both in the movie and in real life...
@Tech pinnaple your welcome. it's a complicated process.
@Mark Joseph Bacho the movie references the 1000 days war that happened between 1899 and 1903 which displaced many populations as you saw in alma's story.
@TheUnreadableUser Los del gobierno son los paramilitares. La guerrilla es aparte
Props to Lin-Manuel for writing one of the most beautiful Disney songs ever
I could swear I've heard other people say it was a traditional Colombian song, but I'm glad I double-checked before commenting! It really was written by LMM in Spanish. He said in an interview “I wanted to write a song that felt like it always existed," and I think he succeeded.
Agreed it's so beautiful
Fun fact: The melody that Abuela sings during "La Familia Madrigal" is the same as this song. Listen to both careful side by side: "We swear to always/Help those around us", "Dos orugitas/Enamoradas". It's just in the verses but it still works. I'm sure this was done on purpose as a subtle nod to how Abuela's trauma and loss still affect her to this day, even though it's subtle and happened so long ago. It drives everything she does without even realizing it. This movie is amazing
Me: going to a fun colorful family movie with my two daughters.
Disney: blindsiding me with this song.
Y ahora me toca a mi seguir adelante encontrar mi propio futuro. Me toca estar sin mi oruguita y arreglarmelas sola.
Sending you so much love xxx
My little 4 month old has recently become obsessed with encanto, it stops him crying and even soothes him to sleep. Were a british family and im going to try my damn hardest to learn this off by heart (in spanish) so i can sing it to him.
Hes my lil caterpilla. Love you owen.
I've probably listened to this song more than 50 times but it always brings a tear to my eye. I really hope it gets the nod for an Oscar because its such a fanatastic song.
Its also telling that the soundtrack of Encanto is soooooo good that even this song has been overshadowed!!
This songs fills me with emotions I can't explain. Almost like this song was played in my life as I was little. Not nostalgia but something else.
encanta mucho viva Colombia - 🇲🇽
"Ay oruguitas" and "Ay Mariposas" always gets me everytime even tho I don't even understand what it means 😭🥺✨🧚♀️
@Vee A Vee nah bro, in spanish, mariposas = butterflies, moths = polillas.
@João Miguel Azoia Mariposas mean Borboletas in spanish
Actually, oruguitas means little caterpillars
@Sherry Rawls arent "mariposas" moths? at least in portuguese they are, and butteflies are "borboletas"
Oruguitas = caterpillars Mariposas = butterflies
Hands down my favorite song from Encanto. The melody is so beautiful that at first I thought it was a love song. But after reading the lyrics, I get it now that it is more than a love song. Anyone can listen to this song and think of how the lyrics is related to him or her (mother to child, grandparents to younger generation, teacher to students, etc...). This is a wonderful song, and the song writer and his team must be very proud of this masterpiece.
I honestly am happy that countries around the world are finally being recognised in film, and I cant wait to see when Africa finally happens. And I do hope they don’t do the traditional countries like Ethiopia or Nigeria, or Kenya. I hope they dive into not as known countries, like Chad, or Somalia, as they have such distinct cultures, sad stories, and yet a bright future.
I remember hearing this in the movie and not literally understanding the words yet the tears streamed my face. The song, the melody spoke to me. Sometimes you just have to feel, to understand.

This song hits so hard, and it has to much emotion in it. It’s a slow song but at the same time tells such a deep story. The movie brings even more emotion and expression to this song. And I personally think that the Spanish version is more emotional and nostalgic. I literally listen to this song on repeat all the time.
You know, when you listen to this song, you feel something. It’s that feeling of sadness yet happiness. It’s that feeling highlighting the memories of your past and of your life. It reminds you of your inner insecurities, but it also reminds you of the joyful events that occurred. This song is confusing, in a way. It’s only talking about two caterpillars growing into butterflies and finding their own future, but the emotion being expressed in this song is unmatchable. It’s just incredible how a song talking about something so normal and common and make an audience feel the waves of nostalgia coming towards them.
And I think the way the singer sings this song is phenomenal. Throughout most of the song, he keeps that soft and gentle tone, which really adds great emotion to the song. If he was singing the song in any other way, it wouldn’t be as emotion and nostalgia-packed. The little parts where he goes slightly out of tune also add a gentle tone to the song, therefore enhancing the emotion. And he raises his voice in the necessary parts, to add in the tone of longing and sadness.
This song is phenomenal and so emotion-filled in all factors. This is definitely going to be one of the main songs I listen to. This song is definitely enchanting.
I absolutely love this song and this movie. My 10 month old son NEEDS to watch this at least once a day( I'm fine with it). This song always gets me emotional. I feel like this song has the ability to connect absolutely everyone in the entire world if they listen with their hearts as well.
I’m in love with this song, it’s so beautiful 😍 Disney is just getting better and better ❤️❤️❤️
I cannot express how much I love this song, I cry every time I listen to it I love it so much 💕🐛🦋
I wish I understood spanish, but looking into the meaning of this song brings me to tears, especially looking back on the scene from the movie.
@Addison The Cat Of course. The English version is not a translation, but the message and "plot" of the song is the same.
A direct translation would never match the timing and rhymes perfectly.
@nhuertasg some of the translations are wrong though.
The English version is not a direct translation. Both are great but the Spanish one is better, even directly translated.
Es hermosa la canción
It is the summarize of Colombian civil war. It really happened. Life has not been easy for Colombians, especially in the 1800s and 1900s. 🥺 So proud of my country, we have been very strong after all 🙌🏻
I can't stop listening to this song it's my favorite I love it so much
I remember in my Spanish class when our teacher showed us a video of a man in Colombia singing a song about his lady love leaving him. Midway through the song the man began crying a lot but kept singing. After the song ended I asked why he started crying in the middle and my teacher said “because it’s emotional. It was a sad song.” I didn’t get it at time.
Now I’m here. Singing along to a song I only barely understand. And I finally get it. I too feel like crying while singing this song.
I hope this will win the Oscar for Original Song
Amor, dolor, esperanza...
Mirabel has been given a gift. That's to set everything (anyone) free, be whoever they truly are. She's basically the "Miracle" embodied.
So many of our families need healing. This movie hit so close to home that I now realize how badly I want to fix the broken encanto in my own family.
Frr, but my encanto has been destroyed and I don’t think I can fix it
True 😔 😢
As an asian i feel you
❤️❤️❤️❤️ sending love to you and your family
❤️❤️🙌🏼🙌🏼
When he sings 'Ay, Oruguitas' it touches your heart! The magic of his voice and these lyrics are absolutely ❤️
He has such a great voice!!!!
Two caterpillars
In love
Spend their nights
And mornings
Filled with hunger
They keep going
And navigating a world
That changes and keeps changing
Navigating a world
That changes and keeps changing
Two caterpillars
Stop the wind
As they hug
With emotion
They keep growing
They don't know when
To look for some corner
The time keeps changing
They're unseparable
And the time keeps changing
(Oh, caterpillars
Don't hold back anymore
You must grow
Apart and return
Forward you will continue
Miracles will come
Chrysalis will come
You must break apart
And construct
Your own future) x2
Two caterpillars
Disoriented
In two buds
Well warmed
With new dreams
Now there's only one thing left
To do what's necessary
In the world that keeps changing
Breaking down their walls
There comes our miracle x4
(Oh, butterflies
Dont hold back anymore
You must grow
Apart and return
Forward you must continue
Now there are miracles
Breaking chrysalis
You must fly
You must find
Your own future) x3
@Jan Veselý ehe
@mrinmayee wadke You beat me to it
@ẞërrīês åñd çrēâm Yes, it is a good translation, but I think there is an error in the last stanza when he puts "Now there are miracles", the best translation would be "you are already miracles", because the singer is speaking in the second person in that part.
¡Gracias!
Thank you so much!
This song is beautiful in every meaning of the word. Lyrically, musically, metaphorically and in terms of the message it conveys. Listened to it a 100 times already and it lands just as hard every time
This song is beautiful and his voice is incredible!💚🦋
After listening to this song, I've been practicing it to mastery. I love the meaning and the melody, it brings me to the shoes of my dear grandparents'.
It's my favorite from the movie, I wish it had that silent moment before "Ay, Mariposas" like in the movie. But still a beautiful song I'm in tears.
Just watched “Encanto” in Japan🇯🇵 Out of all the great songs in the movie, this is my most favorite and I just couldn’t stop crying while this song was on. Thank you for such a deep, beautiful and warm song. Colombia has such a beautiful culture.

Konnichiwa! I am Colombian-American, and I have always wanted to visit Japan. Your culture is amazing and so honorable. Thank you for supporting Encantó and saying nice things about our culture. 😍Have a great day!

@MK oh, In Indonesia, no one has been chosen as an Indonesian voice actor

Thanks lord this song was great in the Oscar.
I cannot explain to you how much I love this song. It brings tears to my eyes just hearing it.
This song speaks to the soul, no need to understand the lyrics.
such a beautiful song!!
I watched Encanto for the second time in cinema, and as soon as this song kicked in I started crying. I can’t listen to this song without crying now
It’s like a subconscious reflex. I cry every time.
THIS MOVIE MADE ME CRY 😭 ITS SO SAD I HAVENT FINISHED WATCHING IT BUT ITS SO SAD OMG 😭
This song just needs to come with tissues and a hug. I mean I haven’t cried this much in a while
Everyone would just at least shed a tear when listen to this.

ME ENCANTA 😌😍
To all of the songs in Encanto, this one really attached in my mind even though I can't understand it. I already played this several times, also I did try the English version but I do more prefer this Spanish version. It's so underrrated.
hermosa cancion
es una de mis favaritas
This is such a beautiful moving song. It's been getting me through some hard times. The magic of Disney really is immortal.
i dont even know how to speak or understand Spanish but this song just hits the right spot in my heart, like its like a warm embrace tbh
I first watched this movie next to a friend who’s fluent in Spanish, and we watched without subtitles. Out of nowhere, they just started crying to this song, and I was so confused. Like, yeah, the scene on screen is heartbreaking not to the point of heavy sobbing is it? They then proceeded to translate it to me live.
Anyways we were both wailing by the end of the song and had to pause so we could stop crying all over the couch.
@Barney The Potato My Spanish is very rusty, so I caught only a few words and basically didn't understand, but it didn't stop me from bawling my eyes out. Idk why they would look at you confused, the scene itself with the sad music is more than enough to make you cry.
Same here. I broke next to my son who doesn't speak Spanish. He was like Mum what the heck!? 😢
It's such a poetic metaphor beautifully written.
Not me immediately going to check out the translation for this song and crying even harder afterwards
@TheUsername55555100 funny you mention that as a boy i was told not to cry or show emotion so I just don’t anymore. Im 17 and haven’t cried in at least 8 years
@Naruto el macho
This song was robbed at the Oscars tonight🤬
Música linda, voz maravilhosa!
Lindíssima 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Onde aperta pra curtir 1000 vezes? 😍🥰💜👏🏼
Ugh, this song... I cried so hard watching Abuela's life and how hard she had it after Abuelo died protecting them.
In a sense, and as an adult, you completely understand why Abuela forgot about the gift. She was so afraid of losing everything because she has lost everything before. You understand that as she got older, and gained more through her family, the fear just got worse because now, she had more to lose. She lost the forest for the trees.
But Mirabel hasn't been through that sort of loss. She sees it through her innocence and love for her family. Arguably, she saw it much clearer from her point of view in the shadows than Abuala did, because Abuela had the responsibility of carrying the family. Both of them love their family and community so much, which is why both of them fought so hard to try and protect the encanto, even if Abuela was wrong in how she tried to protect them.
I disagree that Mirabel hasn’t gone through that sort of loss. She lost her future when her door disappeared. That anticipation of what may come (as the birth of your children for abuela) tempered by loss her powers (abuelo dying) and being reminded daily through her family’s snubbing (the faces of her children) that she lost something incredible and magical. I’d argue that is exactly why she could put abuela in her place so effectively when she needed to: if she had never had that loss, the family, the magic, despite being overwhelming and toxic would have been good enough. Her loss is the fire inside her that pushed her forward.
same
🙏❤🥺
For me there is only one thing that matters:
AAAAAAAAAY ORUGUITAAAAS 😭😭😭
A lot of people miss that Abuela never had proper closure, either. Her husband's body was beyond the Encanto. And it sprouted up before she could reach it. So she went from the loss of her husband to a magical area sprouting around her, to the responsibility of being the leader of a people and having to raise her triplet infants alone. Nevermind that those same men who cut down her husband were likely going to do the same to her in mere moments, so she knew how close she came to that loss, too.
Encanto is one of the most nuanced takes on the cycle of grief and trauma--generational trauma. The original foundation of the house was built on loss and tragedy, but the second foundation was built on the love they had for each other--and the community had for them. With the candle gone, a symbol of her husband and an eternal reminder of the moment of his death, she can finally move on and heal instead of clinging to that singular moment of loss. Abuela then felt she needed to justify why she received this miracle from Pedro, and was so focused on giving back for it when she didn't need to because of what it sprouted from (her husband's love for them--something she'd earned already).
Mueve nuestros sentimientos.
Anyone else love this song but bawls their eyes out every time?
