I am running i7 7820x at 4.8Ghz and runs cooler than Ryzen 2700x. My CPU does not go over 65C on regular AIO Corsair setup. x299 platform is great and I am not sure what's the point of this video? X299 really shows its muscles in real work and gaming and virtualization. The platform is worth every penny. 6:30 shows how badly Ryzen actually sucks and the price of $300 fits it. This high clock speed of 9900k doesn't really play any role cause I am only 200Mhz shy from 9900k clock speed on much better x299 platform.

The best thing Intel could do and beat AMD in their own game is to kill z390 chipset and bring x299 platform to main stream and all they have to do is to lower price for 2066 CPUs and undercut all AMD offering...and it is game over for AMD cause they got nothing to compete with having pile of shit AM4 platform with chocking dual memory channel.

Linus, you made a mistake. Intel is not going to kill 2066 socket CPUs but kill 9900k and z390 chipset, the other way around. They will just bring 2066 socket to mainstream and lower the price so 16/32 CPU matches AM4 16/32 price and AMD got nothing to fight with.

As soon as Intel lowers the price for their 2066 is 14 core dropping into my machine.

So the bottom line is that the i9 9900k blows everything out of the water at that price range and most most $1,000+ CPUs, and building a budget PC today has never been better.

This is the PERFECT example of why capitalism is a good thing. With only one company making a product with no competition they’ll never advance and get better. Or at least not quickly. Like AMD or not, they’re the reason intel is getting off their ass and starting to provide and upgrade again.

You're absolutely right. I have a 2500k since 2012 because it's too much expensive - and really low benefits in terms of performance - change everything to new CPUs. So basicly it looks to me that Intel just don't want my money.

More cores means shit if the application is not taking advantage of it.. And coders are not keeping up with it. It lags behind by 10 years. Hell they still teach single core coding in classes. As if it was the 40 years ago....
I would add. The future is in putting Networking. Buss etc...Straight onto the CPU. No more expansion slots needed but one. The video card.... This lowers the MB makers cost to build Mother Boards.

I guess to medium and large video game streamers, money may not mean the same thing to them that it does to me, but it does kind of crack me up watching them talk about their $8,000+ PCs, and look at their specs with their i9 9900ks, and think, about how they could've literally spent about half that, gone with the TOP THREADRIPPER OR EPYC chips, a cheaper motherboard (likely by half the price), and likely got better performance, if not just simply spending HALF the amount on the overall machine! NOT TO MENTION all the issues with crashes, blackscreens, skipped and dropped frames that they deal with. Some people are just so blinded by brand loyalty, they just aren't willing to look outside the box for the current best product!

Funny... I was just talking to a friend who works at Intel. He told me that their gaming market was barely 2% of their total sales. He agreed that if it was for gaming, go for AMD (CPU, motherboard, etc...). For server you can't go wrong with a Broadwell E or W, or the new Skylake.
But I think there's fine line between server and workstation, specially on audio workstations.
In audio workstations you can't just throw more or better GPUs, because it simply doesn't work with GPUs. So what do you for multitasking on an audio workstation? Raw power! A multitasking CPU and lots of RAM.
But when is enough, enough? I have a Broadwell E-2699 v4 (22 cores, 55 MB of cache) and 32 GB of RAM. In the task manager the CPU workload rarely goes above 12%, RAM goes up to 25-30%. But obviously I still haven't used it to it's full extent. So I can safely say that it's way more than enough.
But the whole PC it's new, and I'm still learning how to work the DAWs and plugins. So I don't think the CPU and RAM will stay in that workload during the next 6 to 12 months.
So what I'm trying to say is that Xeons may still be valuable, if not essential, for certain types of multitasking workstations.
