In general, Crucial, Corsair, G.Skill, & ADATA are my personal go-to brands.

The Corsair Vengeance LPX that I show in the video is here - - Keep in mind that you may or may not get the same version that I bought in 2016.
ADATA does good value on RGB RAM, if that's your thing:

    XPG Spectrix D41 -
    XPG Spectrix D60G -
The above are all DDR4-3200 - just different RGB styles

I found faster ram more effective when using lower- mid range gpu. I have ryzen 5 3500 and GTX 1060. This setup was enough to run ACO at 60fps on 900p resolution. But with 2400Mhz I was looking at worst 1% low results and lot of micro shutters. Overclocking ram to 2800Mhz solved all those problems.(12gb ram dual channel).

      Ozymandias 3 days ago

@latuba247 Yes 3600 on 4 sticks of b-die should not be problem either.
You could possibly go even higher but any gains really are marginal after 3600.
You may as well work on tighter sub timings at 3600 and stress testing for stability / no errors.

    • latuba247
      latuba247 4 days ago

Ozymandias Will it oC that well with 4stick?

    • Ozymandias
      Ozymandias 5 days ago

      Most 3200 CL14 b-die can be pushed to 3600 CL16 without a problem.
E-die will run at the rated speed but you probably won't get much more out of it.

So tech need an opinion here, i have a ryzen 3 1200 right now and will be upgrading to a ryzen 5 3500x (from aliexpress) and im currently running cas 16 viper elite 2666mhz ram from crucial. Would it be worth it to upgrade my ram in combo with the zen 2 cpu or is a decent 2666 kit like i have "good enough"?

  • John Terpack

My X570 Taichi board came with a sheet of paper explaining how to mount RAM. According to the paper, I should only use one or two sticks of RAM if I want to run 3200. I can run four sticks if I drop down to 2933, but that has to be single-rank. If I want to fill all four slots with dual-rank RAM I have to drop all the way to 2667. Crucial's website says their 4x16Gb Ballistix Sport 3200 kit is 100% compatible with the Taichi board though. I know my current board, an ancient ASRock unit, required single-rank RAM to function. So I'd be curious to see if that's what the difference was with the standout Corsair RAM in the video.
Also, I'd really like to see if the number of populated slots made a difference. Everything is so gaming-centric that I can't find what I consider to be real-world tests. Given the same timings, is there a difference between, for example, 1x16, 2x8, and 4x4? And does that difference change with total capacity? I could see 1x16 being better than 2x8 or 4x4 for the simple fact that the single big stick would absorb lighter workloads, like gaming, whereas with 2x8 you might saturate the first 8Gb stick and take the slight performance hit of having to then transfer to the second stick. But when you get to some heavy, RAM-munching workload where you could use 32 or 64Gb would the added performance of the overall capacity outweigh whatever hit you might take from using multiple slots?
    Choosing RAM is pure voodoo.

Guys, sorry for the noob question, new builder here. Should I go for 16gb (2x8GB) (dual) ddr4 3600 CL16 G.Skill Trident Z Neo or Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3600MHz C18. Motherboard would be x570 Aorus Elite ryzen 5 3600 and 5700xt GPU. there's a $20 difference between vengeance pro and trident z. Both brand new. Would you go for the corsair 32GB CL18 RAM if there's only a $20 difference?

For zen2 cpu now. Is the current mobo bios updated? I remember there was a time where u have to install a gen 1 cpu ryzen into the mobo. Update the mobo then u can install the gen 2 ryzen. Is that issue resolved now?

Great Video! I'm getting an X570 board and a Ryzen 3800x to upgrade my rig. So while I'll take a hit on the 2133 RAM I have, I'm glad it's not a huge enough hit that I need to run out and replace 64GB of memory immediately, since this cost a solid chunk of change. Only discovered this channel tonight. Had to subscribe due to the excellent videos!

    Hi I'm doing a AMD Ryzen build and I bought a ASUS ROG Strix X470-F (motherboard) and AMD Ryzen 2700X cpu. Which 16gb ram kit do you recommend? I was looking between CORSAIR - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2PK x 8GB) 3.2 GHz. (CMK16GX4M2B3200C16) OR G.SKILL Flare X (for AMD) 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-16GFX Thanks

The thing with the trident z neo is that u overclock it to 3800mhc cl 15 without a problem, then u overclock the infinity fabric to 1900mhz, try do that with the other rams, and voila now its fast.

thats what i thought the true latency is calculated for dual channel RAM like (18/2666*1000*2)=13.50 ns
SO even if u get those high end ram with more cas its gonna be overall a bit more of performance but its not cost efficiant ure gonna get like 2 or 3 ns less for like 300$ more
ATM the sweet spot is 3000 in cas 14
oh and btw its obious that ur ram 4266 didnt work cause its not compatible with AMD processors
for the 3900X u have those 4000 from corsair or thoses 4600 from g skill
