iPhone 11 Pro vs. iPhone XS camera comparison

  • The new iPhone 11 Pro has a triple rear camera, adding a new ultrawide-angle camera for photos and videos. Apple also updated the selfie camera, added a Night Mode and made some small tweaks to Smart HDR and video capture. To see how much better the new cameras are, we took the iPhone 11 Pro out alongside last year's iPhone XS.

Let’s be realistic, are we all trying to be professional photographers? Unless that’s the case, the differences are not that significant.

Does anyone know if LG still makes the OLED screens for the regular 11 Pro? I found out on the Xs the screen a bit warmer than the Xs Max 🤔

I found it less brighter and much warmer than the Xs Max just tried it with a clean white background and a black background you can really notice the difference

W Daniel Garcia if i am not wrong but lg has a bad record of producing mediocre oled displays ( pixel2,3,lgv30)

@Booker DeWitt Ummm... not for me. It was the telephoto camera that I always use a lot. Ultrawide has never been that important to me.

Mzwandile Harmans the 2x (actually the regular 1x 52mm) is without doubt the least useful camera, while the wide angle is what you always wanted.

Reverse Thinker Pixel 3 has the same DXO Mark score as the Xr with the single camera, lol

      Reverse Thinker 5 months ago

@Marco previously iPhone put all effort in making lens better but google master stroke it with improving AI by pixel binning technology and beats even iPhone X in picture quality even having single freaking camera now imagine it with 2 😍

    • Marco
      Marco 5 months ago

Reverse Thinker I wouldn’t talk so soon at most they will be equal I highly doubt the Pixel 4 will be any much better than the IPhone camera. Don’t forget Apple is not a sucker they definitely prepared for the Pixel 4 release that’s why they got deep fusion coming out soon. In the end though even if the Pixel 4 is better it won’t be that much better, and 2nd place isn’t bad.

Mark Wornom oh no. If you have an iPhone 8 Plus, do not get iPhone XS for its camera. Go ahead and upgrade if you want a new iPhone but not if camera is the most important function. I’ve had an iPhone 4, 5, 6, 7 Plus, and X (same camera as 8 Plus), and now XS.
By far, the XS is the worst camera I have ever seen on an iPhone. The exposure slider adjusts saturation and some brightness. But it doesn’t adjust exposure the same way the previous iPhones did. This is due to Smart HDR where everything is exposures “properly”. Meaning even you slide down on the exposure slider, the dark areas do not go black. Darkest areas in frame are still exposed. Making contrast shots or silhouette shots impossible. There is also no way to enable more contrast. The HDR button in the main camera does not allow you to disable HDR. When turning off HDR, it simply reduces the dynamic range by a small percentage. It’s mostly artificial. So rather than allowing you get more contrast, the lack of contrast remains identical when HDR is off, but the sky is no longer blue. It’s white. But HDR wasn’t really turned off because in a persons face, you can still see that the shadows are heavily lifted.
HDR DISABLED on iPhone XS still means a higher dynamic range capture compared to HDR ENABLED on iPhone 8 Plus.
This is baked into the API’s so third party apps cannot override. The exposure slider on all third party apps become saturation sliders more than anything else.

Bhaskar Mukherjee just purchased it to try it out. I’ve spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on App Store purchases. I’ve tried every single camera app on the App Store. Neural cam is new so I just tried it out. Still... doesn’t come close to Cortex Cam. It’s a gimmick compared to Cortex. Because it doesn’t do anything special. It does what ProCam and Halide already do. Those apps have been out for a while and those were also gimmicky

@Giovanni Galvez Can you verify that you've tried the Mavis Camera and Filmic Pro apps and neither allows you to modify exposure on the XS? I have an 8 Plus and was considering upgrading but not if I can't make manual adjustments.

Every tech blogger and tech enthusiasts who have used this phone is going bananas over it, I have one and I don't really see much difference from the previous generation except wide-angle shot. Most pictures taken at indoor and outdoor at daylight have a much warmer tone ALMOST like note10, the difference is seen at night. However, video recording is awesome and the night mode is good (Catching up with pixel and Huawei). Still, I don't like the warmer tone in the picture even with HDR on.

Good to hear... I bought an app for night mode on the XS. It works like a charm. All this reviewers make you feel like you should upgrade if you like photo's. My experience XS is still very good.

He's astonished with the fact that it can record in the ultrawide and switch through cameras while recording but the Mate 20 Pro from last year could do that along with the S10 from early this year.

He's so amazed at how he can switch cameras while taking video. The LG V40 from last year can do it. Any three camera phone from this year can do it.

@Ariyan Alfraita This is the only comment I've made. I don't know where you are getting that I've made other comments from. And it's not really fanboy if I'm speaking facts. I never said any phone is better than any other. I simply stated that other phones have the same feature so it isn't anything to get excited about. It just so happens that almost every other phone runs android lol.

I upgraded from XS MAX 512GB to PRO MAX 512GB.
The only real difference I notice in the camera and battery is that the camera app is faster and the Zoom in on 1080p is better.
what I really wanted was 1TB of storage for my RU-clip videography and vacation vlogs.
iMovie iOS requires a large amount of space to shoot 4K60FPS videos and still be able to finalize them on the phone itself.
I have roughly 450GB of space for my videos. If they gave me a 1TB storage option I'd have over 800GB and I'd be happy enough to drop $2000 on that.
#2 to be perfectly honest, I haven't really seen a huge difference in video quality since iPhone got 1080p in the 6 Plus. The 4K is an advantage if you are viewing on a 4K devices, but most of my viewers are using mobile devices. Video quality is excellent for my Yotubbing but 4K60fps video is storage hungry, POWER HUNGRY and sometimes I feel like I get diminishing returns because many people watching my videos can't take advantage of it.
